I use gripples on High Tensile Electric. You dont need tension anywhere near its failure point. 6 years in BC winters and not a single failure

Nothing beats the old tying tension wire around the posts. Sometimes I feel the new ways create laziness and the old ways create good work ethics, character, and pride in your work.

GREAT video, Dan. Very clever method of testing. FWIW, I think it's predictable that the wire would break at the Gripple because the geometry of the Gripple holds the ends of the wire at a slight angle and therefore puts a slight bend in the wire when it's tensioned. Depending on how tight the wire is tensioned, the wires will be bent where they enter the Gripple and have a weak spot there. So while the Gripple held in both cases, the wire failed at the weak spot caused by the Gripple. Anyhow, good job!!

Gripples have there place I use them for woven wire on really short runs less than 20 feet its a clean way to get good tension.

Great job Dan I was wondering about the gripples and how good they were. I would probably still put a staple on the post with the T gripples because I always over kill everything . I guess I worry about some scum bag stealing my T gripples. O what kind of candy were you eating you through a craving on me LOL. Also you were the first person to mention about getting the gripples with the grit for high tinsel wire. Thank you for shucking it down to the cob on the gripples !!!!

But the wire didn't break in or at the Gripple? It broke away from it so how did the Gripple cause the wire to break?

It actually did break in the Gripple. Originally I thought it didn't, but later realized it had. 06:16

Awesome video and information, thanks. Question though, what is the tension/ lbs on the wire with just the Gripple tool? And would the wire be less likely to break at a lower tension? Also, I really need a tutorial on stretching woven fence over a rise. Thanks.

Just used a gripple and it was much better than a crimp with grit. I actually used four of them. They suck.

Dan’l-- me thinks you got it wrong! The evidence was right there, in every shot…. Plain as can be! True, The Gripple didn’t Slipple… but the wire was destined to fail! Everyone knows…? you don’t eat Funyuns while stringing single strand High Tensile! That calls for Pork Rinds… you have to use pork grease on high tensile. Funyuns are for wooden fences where you don’t want to leave grease marks!!! That’s a knowed fact! Had you remembered it… you too could have had a good danged day!!!

Dang it, you're right!! I knew there was something I was missing! Well... now I'll have to repeat the test with pork rinds... 🤣

But the Gripple can be retightened multiple times, and you can't retighten a crimp!
