i am pure chinese but born and grew old here in the Philippines.. my husband wanting "greener pasture" and i migrated to Canada in our early 40's, and became Canadian Citizens. He stayed there, i came back to Philippines after 2 months, i just visit him once a year.. i cannot leave the Philippines, it's my home, it's where i am comfortable, with the flood, the traffic, with money or no money, i am happier here.. home is where your heart is.. happily retired in my modest home somewhere in Antipolo City :)

I never really new how important national identity was until i moved and worked in Japan. Over there being Japanese comes above everything else. Things happened in my life which eventually led me back to the Philippines. Only then I realized, that we have so many things to be grateful about being Filipino apart from all the negativity the media wants instill in us. I also realized that not knowing our real national roots make it difficult for us to be original in many things. We are so quick in accusing our fellow Pinoys of being copycats but the truth is we are lost because we have no interest in knowing who we are. Coming home after some years i discovered that Pinoys do tend to smile a lot, are very respectful, and very communal and family oriented. I started rediscovering the food, the music, and the history. Unlike before, I have this burning love and pride in being Filipino. The many things we despise add color to who we are as a society and as a people. To my fellow Filipinos, in your bloodline lies greatness. Get to know yourself and be great.

Same sentiments, growing up you see these other countries and you think they are far more better. Now as an adult, I came to understand the way of life of the Filipinos. Yes, they are far more richer than us but nothing is perfect, no country is perfect. Hey, even Luxembourg the richest country in Europe have homeless people. South Korea who many young Filipinos want to emulate, has it's slum too, just hidden. But when you look at their culture, their demeanor and how they look at life, I can say I am grateful that I am Filipino. We have so much faith, compassion and resilience that other culture tends to lack.

@alphsno472
@alphsno472 9 ай бұрын
@@Gilvidsagree. Yet you lose that resiliency when you get used to comfort, then you start to complain even just for petty inconveniences. Much like the people living in rich countries, then when your country's economy goes downhill the residents tend to lose hope easily, resorts to drugs, violence and suicide. That's mostly what's happening in the US now and Europe, while South Korea and Japan are among the loneliest countries in the world, leading to many suicides. They lose the knowledge of how it is to live simply. Sometimes reflecting on these scenarios, I tend to ask myself 'Is it really good to be that progressive and to have all the comforts in life?' because in our country I can see the beauty in the struggle. Filipinos tend to be more appreciative of what we have and know how to find joy even in the simplest things. We have that 'Matutong mamaluktot habang maiksi ang kumot' mentality. Progress is good but there is also beauty in knowing how to struggle. Each has its own pros and cons. Well at the end of the day, we're all just passersby here. If you have faith, we all know this world is gonna end. It is up to each individual how to live it.

We are opposite, Like you, after high school I moved to New England states. I left the Philippines during the Marcos regime. I never lost my identity as a Filipino ever. I still love my country in spite of the killings, insurrection, political corruption as well as poverty. I always think of the poor that I left who has no opportunities but I never turned my back against my people. To give back, I sponsor a few charities in poor places in the Philippines. Every year (without skip) I give without naming myself and asking for a return. I don't have a story like you but I AM A FILIPINO WITHOUT HESITATION. I NEVER LOST MY IDENTITY.

@rayciocon
@rayciocon 8 ай бұрын

We have this song and one of the lines said "Tawanan mo ang iyung problema" meaning Laugh at your problem. Laughter is a medicine, also Filipinos are fond of singing and it's good for health. It's therapeutic. Another factor is its all about our faith in God. He said , contentment is great gain, if you have food , shelter and clothing, be contented, do not worry about tomorrow for you don't know what it brings. You might not even live tomorrow. He also said, rejoice in everything and be grateful. So despite being lacking , we have joy in our hearts because God is in there. These material things in this world won't really satisfy us.

Ever wonder why many rich people become philanthropists? Seeing a smile and joy helping people is what gives meaning and purpose to life realizing how blessed they are,for unfortunate people are happy and content with just enough of what they have. Material things doesn’t make a person and surely not the barometer of success but character and compassion does.

In the few countries I have visited, most of which are far more industrialized, developed and urbanized nations, I always come home with renewed appreciation, love and gratitude for being Filipino. Yes, we are a poor nation, but I haven't experienced the warmth, energy, sense of community and happy vibes from any other countries. When you experience other cultures, it makes you love your own country more. After all, its not all about the comfort and the conveniences of living. The humility, the genuine kindness, and their inner happiness. All characteristics likely endowed by GOD. So now, I'm not just American-filipina. Im proudly FILIPINA. And it's awesome❤

This teared me up. I think the most main reason why a filipino will go out of his country to explore the unknown is because of the love he has for the family he leaves behind, to seek for greener pastures so he can provide for them. Mostly for economic reasons. And that is why we have the so called “OFW”. They would endure all the challenges they encounter, adapt very well and would even learn to speak the language of the countries they embrace. This adaptability or resilience is very much ingrained in filipino culture. Maybe because of what Philippines had gone through like being conquered by other countries and the countless natural calamities that came and left people to live in poverty. Yet with nothing, they can still put a smile on their faces and hear their laughter in the midst of adversities. And this beautiful pinoy trait is abused by the powers that be. Not that filipinos do not hate corruption but it lingers because filipinos stopped believing in their government and take their destiny into their hands, hence, the flight out into other countries, a circumstantial choice. Empathy or compassion is something a Pinoy can apply easily because they know what hardships and to have nothing mean. Of course there are exceptions but that is what i see in most that’s why I am proud to be a Filipino.. We maybe third world but very advanced in humanity. Bawal kumontra! Hahaha

I didn't finish the video and I was very emotional. Being Filipino is rooted in the Blood, it is rooted in the Heart. that's why many Filipinos are patriotic and there are also many who don't understand especially other Filipinos who are in other countries...They say to stop the word "Proud to be Pinoy" in the comments. Now, you can't blame because even before the generation, the Pride of being Pinoy has been in the Blood. Pinoys are different from other Races, not because I'm Filipino because it's in the Heart and something different is stamped in our Blood.

Growing up influenced by what I saw in movies, tv series, the books I've read, I wanted to be an American. I felt like I was dealt the short end of the stick. As I became an adult, I realized how much we women were treated equally and fairly in the Philippines. I've seen women being beaten in the streets in Japan and forced to stop working once they've married. I've read and watched about women in China, India and other countries treated as second class citizens, males preferred over females, sons favored over daughters. Though still in a culture that is Macho, women are still more respected here. And that is why I've stayed put in my own country. Ang sarap maging Pinoy!

True. Not being feminist or woke, cause I really don't like that mentality, women here in our country are quite lucky, not all but mostly. I love how respect is being taught here, and I still love how men treat women here. That's why I always give respect to the man I am with. It's not perfect because there is no such thing, but it's okay, enough to feel that you are loved and respected in return. If you look at Korea and how women are treated there, you'd be grateful you live in the Philippines. I also don't like how the women in the west behave themselves, and sadly that kind of mentality is slowly creeping towards our part of the world. Again, not saying all, but mostly.

@@alphsno472Yes! I feel exactly the same way. Pinays are strong women but have kept the femininity. We want to be taken care of, to feel secure and safe, but are not damsels in distress that need saving. In turn, we know how to take care of our men. We value and respect them. Just like our mothers taught us. 😉

Inspite of the problems, the struggles and the trials in life, Filipinos still manage to smile, to laugh and to share what we have in our own capacity. The closed family ties and the respect for elders is still there. The sad part is that the media (not all) tend to project and sensationalized on the killings, the kidnappings and the negative side of the country which is happening also to what we called "first world" countries as well as to other countries around the globe.
