The best part is that you can also use it as an emergency oxygen supply as well, if I'm remembering correctly, giving it utility even in caves and lower depths. My first playthrough I ignored it entirely, but every time I've replayed Subnautica since, it's permanently in my inventory until I get ready to go to the lava caverns and I'm in vehicles constantly.

Fun Fact: a speedrun strat I saw for this game involves crafting a moonpool, then; placing the moonpool right before you drown, respawning in the moonpool, swimming further down, and repeating. This is technically not using a base for oxygen.

Instead of making filtered water, you should have made disinfected water from salt and tube coral, it is worth 35 points of hydration, whereas the filtered water is only 20. You could've been more space efficient with disinfected water.

Tbh disinfected water is my go to, from the beginning to the end of the game. It's actually 30 water per bottle, but you also get two at once so you get 60 water from just a piece of salt and coral tube Plus you can craft the bleach and just not turn it into the water until you need it to save on storage space

I screwed up when first playing. I couldn't figure out how to make much of the more advanced stuff, but I did find that underwater growing bed. So I grew a trail of the coral that emits bubbles of air to go anywhere deep. I made a trail all over the damn map before I figured out how to make a seamoth.

There’s no fish even remotely as useful as the bladderfish. You can eat them. Filter water with them which you can then drink. You can build a flotation device with them, which also can give you extra oxygen. You can eat them raw for oxygen. Also why didn’t you just get your gold and silver in the grassy platoes or kelp forest? And the habitat stuff from the floating island immediately

You could've built a deep base with no power supply and put an aquarium in it for a bladderfish supply. No power means you don't get oxygen by using it and the aquarium doesn't need it.

PLEASE use the bladderfish once you're already drowning 😭When you get to 0 oxygen you still have 8 seconds before you die, but you're not using oxygen. If you eat a bladderfish like 5 seconds after you reach 0, you basically get 5 extra seconds per bladderfish. I tried this and you can get to the thermal plant with just 12 bladderfish (probably less as well if you do it perfectly)

It's actually not hard to beat the game without killing or eating a single fish (aside from the ones you hit with your seamoth). You just need to be reasonably fast so you can get the edible plants before you run out of nutrient blocks.
