I'm starting my first job at 15 to be able to save up and get a fish tank that will be purely cherry shrimp(the cutest creature of the water ever) and plants. The only reason i didnt start saving sooner is because I have really curious cats who currently have full access to my home BUT we're upgrading so more rooms and one thats gonna be fully off limits to cats therefore safe for my future adorable shrimp

I have a 20 gal that is only cherry shrimp and plants (and snails, they're inescapable). It's fabulous, simple, and inexpensive. The shrimp will reproduce giving you a shrompfest... They're really fun to watch, and easy to keep. Even a smaller tank would work. (I also have a 29 with cherries, plants and fathead minnows) I also have cats but have sturdy lids on the tanks so they can't get in. The shrimp tank has a plush hammerhead shark on top of the lid to dissuade cats... Highly recommend a cherry shromp only tank! You can either try to breed a special color, or just throw them all in like I did and see what happens. It's a fun science experiment. The various color morphs cross and create some interesting shrimp. 2nd or 3rd generation red becomes red with primitive markings, leaning toward wild type (grey, silver, with stripes). Blues grow and become black. I got some blacks developing a camoflage dorsal stripe of pale sand color... so from the top they look like a rando piece of plant. I got some reds go deep chocolate and also get the stripe. I have elodea canadensis, hornwort, and a wimpy java fern and amazon sword (meh). No heater. The elodea and hornwort can be rooted or float, forming a canopy. It's fun to play "where's Waldo" looking for shrimp among the plants.

I think we're all worried our fish might get sick. That is why I got this book on fish diseases by Dr. Gerald Bassleer. Maybe you've heard of this fish doctor and pathologist. It's a brief overview with pictures and has a lot of accessible information. But getting to know when your fish are actually under the weather and need attention, I think that takes a lot of practice.

I test all of my stands by having my heaviest friends (including me, I'm ~200lbs) stand on it and jump. If it can handle me and the boys jumping up and down, it can hold a fishtank. I only have 3 75 gallon tanks and a 125 though. Testing the stand for the 125 was very fun.

A tidal tank sounds so cool. I was thinking it probably runs on timers for one pump draining then giving it back after a certain time. Like maybe it's stored in a sump below the tank or something. I'd love to see this tank switching tide cause no way they're doing in manually. I also want to try mudskippers in the future but was thinking of doing fiddler crabs as my first brackish attempt. When I do it I also want to mimic their native environment.

The owner posts a lot on Reddit, and has explicitly stated they do in fact change the tide manually! They know about automatic pump systems, but prefer the quality time with their mudskippers, esp. because they're more active during that time

So I have a question, I trust people who watch your channel more than I trust facebook groups. I bought red root floaters for my red betta's tank. They came a little wilted. I took out the leaves that weren't healthy and left the others in a quarantine tank for a little while. It was fresh, new water so it had nothing in there to really feed them. I didn't wait that long before putting it in my tank (never tested the water, learned mistake) and after three days, over night, they spiked the nitrites and nitrates in the fish tank so high that my fish almost went blind. I changed the water %75, removed the wilted leaves then started treating her. Next day it spiked again. I removed all the floaters and put them back in a quarantine tank. I change the water in the quarantine tank just as often as my fish tank and the only floaters left is a small handful of them with new growth, all the rest I tossed. The water consistently gets spikes of nitrates and nitrites. I am worried about putting them in any tank ever, I just don't get it.

I would suspect that if you're having an issue like that it's not from adding some plants. Even if they were all dying that's not going to produce enough ammonia to crash your tank if it were otherwise healthy.

I didnt even consider the heater, fiest thing i checked for was amonia and for parasites or fungus. When I couldn't find anything called the fiah store and they told me to check the heater.
