50mm is my go too. I have modern and vintage lenses I love using. 28mm is my second choice. Then 85mm.

Yeah it’s such a well rounded lens, having it with a 28mm is my favourite and also a 85mm

@@gerardneedham the one I use the most is either my Nikkor 50mm f1.2 AIS adapted or the Sony Zeiss 55mm f1.8. Both I find to be amazing. Sold my Sigma f1.4 after buying the Zeiss. Just didnt feel like I needed that weighty monster.

Convincing and balanced “love letter,” Gerald. (Not a Dear John letter😊.) Animated graphics for editing bits a nice touch; don’t recall if you’ve used them in prior vids. They don’t call it “nifty fifty” for nothing. After some time using a 50, a useful way to determine what other f/l should be next would be how one crops images - need to get further back or closer-in, if that makes sense. The “kit lens” that used to come packed with film cameras was typically a 50mm (2.8 or 3.5). Clever “stay tuned” tease. Cheers!

Yeah I use the graphics in the last video too, thinking about getting some more or signing up to motion array or something Zoom with you feet they say, doesn’t always work like that tho. 50mm used to be a kit lens aye, now it’s a 28mm or 40mm which is pretty cool

I love my Viltrox 40mm - it's way more versatile than 50, but you do lose a bit of bokeh. It's so small and cheap, but it's become my favourite everyday lens! I also like my Nikon 50mm f/1.8 a lot, but that needs an adaptor on mirrorless, so it's too big to carry if I'm not going out just to take photos

The 40mm f2.5? That lens is awesome I sold my 40mm G lens after testing the viltrox. I still think 40mm is the best focal length for when I just take the camera and a lens, no bag. But when I go out to take photos I’ll take a 28 and 50mm now

I have a 50 1.8 and have no need or desire to spend an additional $1300 on the 1.2 version. I do appreciate the technical aspects, but there's not one client that would be able to tell any difference or even care - they're looking for moments and they really just want to look good. Plus, that 50 1.2 (Nikon Z) is a chunk of a lens, makes a difference when carrying for long events.

Dude that Nikon 50mm f1.2 is huge, amazing I bet but massive and expensive. The sigma 50mm f1.2 is a good size and weight. But the 50mm f1.8 is like my Sony Zeiss 50mm f1.8 - amazing

I have the Sigma 65 version and the (Viltrox 40)... The good thing with the Nikon Zf is that it adapts e-mount very well.

Ooooo that’s a cool combo to have, it’s like a unique version of the 35/85mm combo That mega dap works well, looking forward to testing my Sony glass on Nikon

I just watched a video made by James Popsys which was released yesterday echoing the same sentiment, while watching it I thought that the Viltrox 27mm 1.2 and the Fujinon 27mm 2.8 would be great lenses to use as a representation of the standard human point of view on APSC

Yeah I also watch James videos, his photos and advice is great. That’s the 2 lenses I have and that viltrox 27mm f1.2 is flawless but it’s a bit big on the XT5. With they would make a f1.7 version like the 56mm f1.7 they sent me

When saying 50mm do you mean 50mm equivilent? I've noticed you use an APS-C sensor camera
@gerardneedham

Yeah 50mm full frame, 33mm or 35mm APSC

Hey Gerard, I’m wondering, when choosing a 50mm lens do you consider the crop factor of an APSC sensor? I have an x-t5 and am unsure if I should go with a 35mm or 50mm prime since the 35 would be closer to a final focal length of 50mm. Am I over thinking it? Thanks!

The Fuji 33mm or Zeiss 32mm are the pick. Maybe the Sigma 30mm. The 35mm whilst a great lens is closer to 55mm and just feels “too long” but it’s always personal preference.
@gerardneedham
@gerardneedham Күн бұрын
Yeah so anything APSC you times the focal length by 1.5 (canon is 1.6) so a 33mm APSC lens is 50mm full frame field of view. The 35mm is great, that’s about a 52.5mm or so, 2.5mm is no difference between 50mm. I have the Sony 55mm and I don’t see a difference from a 50mm, just treat it the same way. Even the sigma 45mm is very similar. So for Fuji you can buy the sigma 30mm f1.4, Fuji 33mm f1.4 viltrox 33mm f1.4, and then Fuji have 3 versions of 35mm f1.4 and f2 I believe Hope that helps

once again the fallacy that the 50mm matches the human field of view. Nope it closely matches the diagonal of the 35mm film negative and that was why it was chosen as the standard for the 35 film size.
@gerardneedham
@gerardneedham 7 сағат бұрын
Mmmmm the text explains it’s 43mm field of view or about 200 degrees horizontal But you need to exclude peripheral vision, so meh. 43mm is more the compression. 135mm is the film size or the sensor size of full frame, not the field of view.
