Love my new ZF, came from Fuji and Canon and I'm happy with this thing. I was considering the MegaDap but was a little nervous about it's reliability. Have you used the adapter in inclement weather at all? I'm afraid it'll get fried with a little humidity. Great video.

One hold of the Nikon ZF and I knew i wasnt going to ditch my X-T5. It felt like a brick. The full frame benefit is minimal, mostly unnoticable and even so youd pay the cost in size of lenses/body. Fuji have a vast variety of native glass which wont break the bank and they perform exceptionally. If the Nikon AF is your priority youre most likely shooting wildlife or sport so you'd be getting a proper full frame camera with much better ergonomics to support your Zoom lenses, not the ZF.

Can you please talk more in depth about using the E-mount lenses to the ZF? how is it compared to the native Z lenses. I'm really like the lens design and size of that sigma I series but the adapter is not cheap and worried about the quality and autofocus if it's on par with the Z lenses. I really hope that someday Sigma will release these lenses to the Z mount. I'm sure they'll be a hit. Thanks

As someone who shot Fuji for 6 years, I had to make this same choice. Fujifilm was priced really well compared to full-frame stuff at first, but then people went nuts over the brand and Fuji just kept hiking their prices higher and higher. I found myself looking at full-frame options that gave me better value and better quality. Yeah, I miss those film sims, but I'm not gonna reward a company that's just cashing in on the Fuji hype. Add in all those firmware problems and that whole mess? There's just no reason to drop money on an X-T5 right now when you can get a ZF for just a bit more, plus grab some solid lenses without breaking the bank. Fuji's really shooting themselves in the foot here. People are jumping ship left and right, and they're being way too slow to wake up and deal with it. Those prices are gonna have to come down eventually.

One has to understand that comparing optical quality of lenses of a similar focal length on a high MP sensor (speaking of XF) that there is a decade of difference in their release and what they were optically compatible with at the time. The old 16mm f1.4 was made for 16 and 24MP sensors a decade ago where the 18mm f1.4 was made to accommodate a 26+ MP resolution. Having said that, I have moved back to Nikon from eleven years with Fuji based on my experiences with photography for 45 years and what each tool gives me. I am keeping a couple X-Trans III cameras and older lenses for that variety only Fuji can give me. The newer bodies are just like any other camera these days and I believe sensor features have hit a plateau practically speaking and ANY camera can pretty much give you the same results generally. Unless you are a Pro with specific needs it becomes a waist of money buying the newest and spec sheet greatest expensive camera.

Been thinking about upgrading from xt4 to zf, but the lenses are holding me back. The Nikon 35 1.4 got bad reviews, also the 50 1.4 is cheaper then their own 501.8s, so how good can it be? The fuji 33 1.4 is a amazing and sharp lens in my opinion. Your suggestion is to get the Sigma 50 f2 lens, which is the same size and field of view and depht of field as the fuji considering the crop factor. but then whats the point in using the bigger zf with the bigger sensor?
@HJN6722 сағат бұрын
The Nikkor f1.4 lenses are not supposed to be as good as their f1.8s. Also, why they are cheaper. The f1.8 lenses (called S lenses) are Nikons top of the pop, super sharp wide open even in the corners, with very little chromatic aberration or flair or what have you. The f1.4 lenses are not like that. Not as sharp wide open and soft in the corners, and with just enough chromatic aberration, flair and vignetting, to give the lenses "old lens vibe" character, which modern day MILC lenses sometimes lag. The Nikkor f1.8 lenses are like fine vine. The Nikkor f1.4 are a beer.

@@Elimnio “What’s the point”? you get bigger biceps from carrying the extra weight, lol. You are right through the XF56 F1.2 WR will give you the exact same look as the Z 85 F1.8 S, the Fuji is smaller and sharper, but the Nikon is cheaper. Going full frame is only worth it for F1.4 and F1.2 but sharp lenses that fast are very expensive, often very big, and only rarely needed unless you really like taking images of a blur with a few eyelashes sticking out of it.

The "megadapted" Sigma lenses sound like a good idea, but in practice AF performance is actually pretty lame. The adapter introduces a delay which the camera's AF doesn't know how to account for. Lots of out of focus images with moving subjects. I tried the same setup, but eventually I sold the ZF and bought a Sony A7 IV, which works much better: it has excellent ergonomics, AF is awesome and the Sigma I lenses work awesome with it. Aside from the megadapter sub par AF, the Nikon Zf has really clunky ergonomics, to the point that focusing becomes a hurdle as the camera is so awkward to handle.

I came up using manual 35mm cameras, and even video. So the autofocus “problem” is not an issue for me using Fuji. If you can’t manually focus your camera, or rely on software to get a good shot, you may not be getting all you can get out of photography.
@guillandanthony711Күн бұрын
That's a great video and a good comparison. But I have to say that these cameras are very different and not on the same level. The X-T5 is one of Fuji's best cameras, whereas the Nikon Zf isn't. I have been using Canon my whole life and I decided to move to Fuji 4 years ago, because I was not happy with the size of the Canon cameras and the price (I had the 1DX 3). And I need to say that I don't regret my decision at all. Fuji allowed me to take my camera everywhere and see things differently. I started enjoying photography. Yes, we have autofocus issues, but they are trying to fix this now. And for those who have compared Nikon photos to other camera brands, we know that green and red are slightly off tone on Nikon. That's just my opinion.

The Zf is superior in most areas, but you left some key aspects out from the strengths of the X-T5: - It has two USH-II SD card slots, meaning you have better redundancy. - It has the 40MP sensor, meaning effectively more resolution. - This can be subjective but the screen of the X-T5 is much better for photography. And about the lenses, it's not ideal to adapt lenses from other mounts for peak performance, and in this sense, Nikon has been dropping the ball with lenses aimed to the Zf/Zfc. Part of what makes Fujifilm so amazing as a retro-experience camera is that most of it's lenses have aperture rings. And yes, 3rd party lenses for Z mount will have these, but usually you still get better rendering from OEM lenses. As other stated, some lenses are better suited for the less demanding MP sensors. The Viltrox f/1.2 duo, the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 and the new trio of XF f/1.4 lenses are better for the X-T5. At the end of the day, either choice is good as long as you are aware of it's pros and cons. But truth be told, Fuji needs to get their sh*t together and invest money in fixing their AF tracking algorithms.

II’ve got a Sony, Nikon and Fuji system too and agree with your summary of the two cameras. Sounds like little reason to keep the Fuji? What convinced you to move to the system from Sony in the first place? I scaled my Fuji system right back to the xt30ii and 35mm f1.4. I only keep it for the size and apparently unique rendering, which is good if I just want to shoot jpeg. However the a7cr with the Sigma I series primes is just as small.

@jwbarsbyКүн бұрын
Both of these cameras need a new generation. X-T6 needs to be all metal and have better autofocus. ZF II needs higher resolution, to be smaller and have a screen like the one on the A7R V. Nikon also needs lenses like the ones you are adapting with aperture rings and a retro 80s aesthetic to match the camera. I’m not switching from Fuji just yet. It will be interesting if Canon do a retro camera. The A1 is my favourite film camera (I’ve got most brands) and if they do something like that or the AE1 with FD style lenses it could be really good.
@flol3266Күн бұрын
Why in the hell does the nikon Zf need more resolution? It is perfect how it is, because it will get worse low light and bigger files when you add more resolution. I never need more than 24mp. Maybe bring out a Nikon zfr. But please not up the res of the nikon Zf itself. But yes, we need some more lenses, but they are coming.
@jwbarsby20 сағат бұрын
@ I know what you are saying but the same argument could have been made about 24MP being too high at one point, and it’s fine. Nobody thinks the Z8 is bad at 45MP or the X-T5 at 40MP. Others have as high as 60 or 100. These sizes would have been totally impractical a few years ago, but computers get faster and storage gets cheaper. It’s all relative. Personally I think it’s better to have the option to crop or scale down. I mainly shoot 35mm film, so I understand not everything is about resolution, but if I’m going to spend thousands on a full frame camera and super sharp lenses it might as well work to its full potential.

@@jwbarsby as i Need multiple backups, Storage can be pretty damn expensive. Currently already paying around 25 Euros a Month for cloud and paying for a nas too and i am already again more than half way through my capacity and all my images are around 24 or now also in 32mp. No sir, i will Not Go above the 32mp of my Sony a7cii. It is unnecessary and i can do a lot of very intense cropping with 32mp. Which i used maybe 2-3 times in about the last 10k Images. And then the photos weren‘t that good in the end. I Never was in the Need for more than 30mp and i think that 40mp for an apsc cam is too much. Waste of money. Maybe with the Leica approach it could make sense, but even then, I would mostly not use it. And it is also one of the reasons why image quality in video mode is so bad on the xt5. It is the same with lenses. You can carry to every shoot a 16-35, 24-70, 70-200,... And also some fast primes like 24,35,50,85 just in case to make every possible photo at every time. It is maybe some exaggeration, but at some point you have to concentrate on strengehts and not prepare on any eventuality that comes along. Maybe you just shoot stuff with the wrong focal length? I am good with missing a shot sometimes, but concentrate on the real epic ones that I am prepared for.

I would disagree completely about the 1.4 lenses. You mentioned the 16 1.4, that's one of the oldest Fuji lenses. It's considered an original lineup lens. The new lenses are the 18 1.4, 23 1.4, 33 1.4, 56 1.2, and these are all a series of modern lenses that look and function almost identically. So if you're looking for a fast prime you can confidently buy any of the new 1.4 lenses and know they look and act the same. Just my thoughts. the nikon looks like a nice setup though too ..
