I find it hard to believe that she just doesn't understand that. She's an adult. I'm guessing its supposed to be comedic. There used to be a lot of jokes with certain people about how Asians look the same. I also believe she was trying to hit on shock value, but just failed pretty hard.
@robbierobert93552 жыл бұрын
You would be surprised if you asked random grown up white people in America if they knew the difference. Especially in the south, they don’t know shit. It’s not hard to believe if you actually talk to white people in America 💀
@solarprogeny67362 жыл бұрын
@@lou1012 oh boy, i don't want to be condescending, but the blur between misconception and "jokes" was pretty intense 10 years ago (and still is). I can assure you she likely knew nothing about Asia nor its countries and cultures, and as much as it's "supposed to be comedic", that doesn't mean it's any less ignorant and founded in ignorance. She's an adult, but an adult who never realized her privilege in making these kinds of "jokes".
@lou10122 жыл бұрын
@@solarprogeny6736 You aren't being condescending by having a different opinion. First, I'm not saying she knows a lot about asian culture. Obviously she's ignorant, or she wouldn't do this at all. I just can't see how she's so ignorant she doesn't know that ninjas are a Japanese thing. That's been well known in America for a long time. I just don't think the problem is that she is ignorant about asian culture. She just doesn't care. She's just making fun of Asian people, staring down the only Asian audience member. This was a shock value for attention thing in my opinion. I unfortunately grew up around a lot of this.
@solarprogeny67362 жыл бұрын
@@lou1012 i definitely agree she thought it would be shocking, but i think she probably didn't know why it was shocking. else it seems difficult to believe she would go on a podcast like 8 years later and state with full confidence that the asian lady in the video loved it and had no problem with it

She invited a chinese/american guy over from church. He made the mistake of brinfing his parents, who whilw fluent in English, had a relatively thick accent. This prompted mg grandmother to ask them "what you want eat? You want wice? We have wice. You want chicken? Won ton chicken?" (It was barbeque chicken legs) and he was MORTIFIED as she just kept going and going. The fact that she went to China to perform this and wasn't chased out of town is not surprising. PragerU went to find young people who didn't like their journalist wearing an asian costume, then went to chinatown to prove that it's not a big deal... Despite the fact that those who thought it was neat were all old people who gave of nationalist vibes - probably wanting more of the western world assimilated to homogeneous culture the CCP push and see a white person appropriating a culture as a costume as them being submissive to the globalist goals, or alternatively want to be seen as polite when a white man loudly asks, "Don't you think my outfit is offensive?"
@IsoMacintosh Жыл бұрын
"Despite the fact that those who thought it was neat were all old people who gave of nationalist vibes - probably..." I love how you have to come up with this theory because it simply can't be that they simply don't care. Do you have similar theories for Mexicans who say they don't care about white people wearing sombreros? Or Indians who say they don't care about white people wearing tribal headwear or using the word Indian?

i think it's also pretty clearly the fact that this shit is most affecting to the people ¨in between¨ the cultures involved - that is, the US deciding that sushi is disgusting (tho it's since changed on that) isn't affecting Japanese people in Japan (or Japan people in the US surrounded by other Japonese people, who would identify themselves as Japanese before they would as Americans) so much as it does the poor Japanese-American kid who gets bullied for their lunch. if that makes sense? personally, i didn't give a shit about a lot of the stereotypes etc about my country until i moved to the US and they were really really used against me on a regular basis w clear mal intent, and then it became real grating real quick
