My game must be bugged. I have discouraged Gale seeking godhood all along, and he promised to return the crown to Mystra, but when I ask how he's feeling I get the response for using the crown.

I had the same pro-crown response after discouraging until I long-rested and then it changed.

I've experimented with this and that's because whether or not he'd choose the road to Karsus hangs on one dialogue choice and one only. Not bugged, but by, arguably questionable, design. It's the one before he sees Mystra. 5 options, you MUST pick the one where you tell him to ask for her forgiveness; if you say anything else then he will not see sense, regardless of your discouragement later, or earlier. To him he just views it as you not seeing eye to eye and doesn't want to support him as he continues on that path. In other words, his godhood is not a fallback option. If you want to continue romancing him where he did not end on good terms with Mystra, you must support his decision wholeheartedly, or you will end up with a backhanded break up. Even the end game 30 persuasion DC will not help you. I actually don't understand why they designed it that way, but you gotta be real careful if you don't want to be stuck with a sneaky god Gale.

​@@rdgrdmedflde4710 I literally finished the game couple of weeks ago and I didn't encourage Gale to say he is sorry to Mystra. At the end of the game there were no persuasion checks for making him abandon idea of crown, I have even asked him if he's sure, does he really want to abandon all this power, and he still decided to give the crown to Mystra. So maybe it was a bug that was fixed, or some other dialogue have also influenced his decision

@@TheCccombobreaker If you put it like that then honestly I have no idea how any of these work anymore. After I got this sneaky god ending with him I decided to roll back to the end of Act 2 and redo the entire Act 3 from scratch. The only thing I chose differently was to tell him to say sorry, and I did get the human Gale ending instead. It was all done back in patch #5 so maybe I was indeed dealing with a bug; or perhaps they broke his romance again, his flags have always been all over the place. Like you said it might also be possible that there are other dialogues that would influence his decision, or that they added those in patch #6. I cannot say for sure. I only know the lines you get from him in the Upper City are drastically different when he's anti-crown VS pro-crown, that's the indicator of the side he'll be taking. In any case, I still have no idea why Larian added that 30 DC before climbing to the top of the Elderbrain for godhood aligned Gale, it's not like it was going to change anything lol.

​@@rdgrdmedflde4710 If I recall correctly, the options when you speak to elminster after reading karsus's book also influence which path gale would end up. And perhaps also whether you told him it's a bad idea or not to pursue the crown before giving the book to Gale.
