Happened to me yesterday it said I was in a battle and could see the boat above me but I was stuck underwater

The game is brocken. This bug has not been fixed since this mode was added. The game is currently going through its worst period. The only thing that can save game - is installing game updates for 2020 and deleting all current ones. The servers simply can't handle the load, and Rare knows it. They know this, but do almost nothing to fix it. This is sad for old players.

The fact that your ship is still fully functional and basically works like a submarine makes this one of the most interesting bugs. We finally got a new ship type after all.

Totally. The fact that the game actually worked, they were drowning, they could 'sink' the other boat etc shows some really good defensive coding on the part of Rare. Except the fact that the fight didn't end. Everything else worked really well despite some crazy event bug.

Underwater battles would actually be so cool as an option for the hourglass. Maybe have Sirens attack both ships alongside a bit more underwater sight but not fully unrestricted. I also like the idea of slower constant drowning during it but I'm not too sure about that.

This same bug happened to me and my friends. Except our enemy was the one underwater and we were above the surface. They swam up and we had a chat and eventually they managed to shoot cannonballs up at us. Sadly we couldn't hit them but honestly we weren't mad. It was a very funny experience plus the other guys were chill which made it better

I found this out early on in HG, I have a video of me and my team fighting our opponent from under the water ( they surfaced, we were the submarine ). Once you defeat your opponent, if you are reaper 5, you can go around the map and sink whatever emissary ships you can find as a submarine. I reported this a couple times since hg came out and it is still doable on demand lol. I would not recommend doing it on demand if you learn how, as anyone intentionally doing it ( beyond testing purposes to report it ), should be banned lol. Additional info: You can do this with any ship, and can force it to where you are the submarine and they are surfaced. While they are surfaced, they can swim down to you or you can go up to them, but they must grab something to affix themselves to your ship in order to be able to walk around, otherwise they will remain swimming. Again, this can be done on demand, and still is not fixed lol.

I experienced the same bug a while back. I sailed to a reaper 5 gally and shot out the cannon above water and was just like "hi". They were very confused until i showed them my shipunderwater.

Congratulations, you managed to stumble onto a new bug on par with the flying ships, back then it was inspiration for me to suggest ghost ships and a "Flying Dutchman" ghost ship, and look at what we got as a result. While I am sorry the bug messed up your game a bit, I can only imagine what kind of inspiration this incident will create, perhaps Rare could implement an underwater ship arena. Or even more interesting, allowing Pirates to tap into more powerful magics, allowing for abilities like having your ship sail down the merky depths. It would certainly make getting to some Siren vaults and even that one Tall tale easier. Perhaps some magic can be found or created on the server as a consumable that grants an effect for as long as you remain unsunk and only in that server, I wouldn't mind having an upgrade that gives you a skeleton crew that you can command when you are sailing by yourself for example.

I mean if the games insistent on hourglass and companies insist on AI why not Train skelly ship Crew AI on hourglass champions, combine that with tall tails ocean crawler boarding mechanics and use that to fill in hourglass matches if nobody shows up, like crank that combat AI aggressiveness up to 11

It’s from people dash boarding and closing the game right before the battle starts you can do it every time and sometimes just one boat stays under water people do it to get easy wins, after the fight you can go in new battle and you will be back up top only if you win or you can vote new battle then cancel the only, easy way to win against these cheaters is to swim down use lots of fire bombs or crash the boat but you have to make sure they don’t swim up and sail your boat away super annoying

I literally got someone doing this bug days ago but it's not impossible to win. I was lucky enough to be next to FOTD so when i found out he was underwater I got a keg from the fort, went back over his boat and first made sure I killed him and then dived very deep down with the keg (dude was shooting himself out from the cannon from underwater and didn't notice me) and i blew up his ship while he was trying to swim my boat out of bounds im guessing. That asshole was so petty that he burned one of my pineapples while stealing the rest XDDD
