Great video deef. Thanks for the reminder that everyone has their own things to deal with. I actually just got back into the game after my uncle was taken in a car crash 2 months ago so this video actually felt a bit personal to me and now I’ve also put a good few hours into immersing myself into this game. Thanks for being one of the few to touch on the reality we all deal with and just thanks altogether bro, you made my day.

More than that! Playing games (CoD mostly, in my case, and some Wildlands solo) has helped me manage my anxiety down from crippling dow to moderate to severe. I integrated it into my therapy for the same reason you did: it was the first place in many where I could forget myself and not hear the self criticism all the time. It's a feggin game, you're supposed to play it. It helped that I allowed myself to be bad at it at first. Loads more to say, but.. yeah.. it's your video and all :p Edit: started playing little over a year back, at 43 years of age. This is very much an ongoing thing.

I am on my missus account, i say that for clarity. But listening too what you said, hit home for me personally. So i am 44, 45 in Sep. I joined the British Military in 97 aged 17 with PWRR, Sniper.... for a little over 10 years, and attachment sniper too 2Para towards the end of my career, then went in too the personal security sector. Gaming was always a part of my life, back at barracks, when we were shipped to Pompey to train the NAVY boys on Whale Island, on a stop over base at Marchwood, or even in Iraq, Afghan... There was always a PS2, PS3, 360 kicking about that we would play on. But when i left the military and personal security, my real battle began.... i went a bit mental too be fair, rage, anger, drinking.... all i did was drink, go clubbing, fight, gym work.... rinse and repeat. When i left the military life it screwed me up as i had nothing too channel all the crap that was in my head. I had to get help in the end, hearing you have battle stress or battle trauma as they now term it, rather than PTSD... I was chucked on meds, Sotalol, Mitazapine, Diazapam, Zoplicone and i admit i just felt like a total failure. But gaming, as ridiculous as it sounds, saved me. I love jumping on with pals, but they aren't always available too play. But like you...... Ghost Recon, BF, ARMA, Incursion Red River, Tarkov, Insurgency. Playing military sims is what i know as it's familiar with my past..... But it's a release as your mind just totally zones out. Either playing with pals or on your own, it just nullifies the mind, and all the memories, flashbacks, PTSD bulls##t just takes a back seat. Gaming, friends and talking really does help. If anyone is reading this, and they are down, depressed.... TALK, talk too anyone..... Jump online with pals and just have a laugh. Christ, if ya have nobody too jump online with, leave your platform and tag here, and i'll add ya, i'm across PS, Xbox and PC. But it really does help. Great video fella.

I don't know your name, but I read every word - and I appreciate you sharing this, as well as leaving the door open for others to walk into the conversation as well. That sounds like one hell of a time, and I don't know how you managed to get through it, but you did, and I'm happy for ya mate. Cheers to you, life is about it's downs as much as it's about the ups, wouldn't be life if it were a straight, boring line I guess. I'll echo that talking to anybody can genuinely be a lifesaver. I spoke to my partner, not long ago about why so many young men struggle, and she simply said "it's because you don't talk about your emotions" and not to tar us all with the same brush, but for me at least, in the past, she was bang on. Playing with others, playing games period, is some kinda medicine for me that I can't get anyway else. Cheers again mate, appreciate ya.

As an avid gamer for the past 25 years, and now as a father/husband, I have had a lot of experience with self appreciation and depression. I really appreciate your candid description of your past and reasons for picking up this game. I have loved every video of yours that I've seen and 100% believe you should/will have a much larger following than you currently do. This video really resonated with me and has made me realise that I can’t keep all of myself bottled up(if that makes sense) so I hope you don’t mind but I might go on a small rant here for a bit. So when I was 3, my mother and sisters were shopping in London while me and my dad were back home at the Ulster transport museum, when leaving my dad got a call that my mum had an epileptic seizure and was in hospital. She frequently had seizures in and outside the house and it changed me and has made me. My mother battled this for 13 years and in this time I became numb to a lot of emotions (like love and in some ways happiness) but last year on June 13th my mum passed away and with her I felt a piece of me pass too. Not only that but only a few months later my great aunt (mums aunt) maud kells got diagnosed with cancer and passed away soon after. They were two of the most resilient and religious women I knew and I hope they are smiling down on us from heaven. The past year has been difficult for us all and I have entered a spiralling depression and with that came a curiosity for military shooter games which in turn led me to you. Your videos have helped me out immensely and I can’t thank you enough for unknowingly helping me and others through tough times. Keep making excellent videos and we all wish you good health

@deefactual yeah I got involved just by writing on the GR forums for years. One day, I got a random email inviting me to Paris. A couple of weeks later, I'm in the studio playing a pre alpha version of Wildlands to give feedback, and the next month, they took us out to LA for E3 and the big Wildlands reveal. It was surreal. Then we did the similar with Breakpoint, but they left it too late in the development cycle. None of us knew what the game features were, but they realised pretty quick they'd messed up. Hence a few workshops between the reveal and the updates that eventually rolled out. So yep, pretty much changed my life, and I feel so lucky and privileged to have had that opportunity.

I watched one of your first videos just randomly a year or so ago and was blown away by how cool the video was set up. You made you and your friend in the video at that time seem like actual ghost recon soldiers and blur line, for me, between game a reality. I have always had a soft spot for wildlands and I’ve said before on one of your older videos that I’ve tried breakpoint a few times but couldn’t really get into it. There was something about it that, at the time, seemed tedious, boring, or confusing. Watching your videos back then is what kept me coming back to try it again and again till now, I frickin love the game. I’m obsessed with cosmetics and of course the stuff I want requires me to basically beat the whole game lol, but I have so much fun working towards it. Basically the point of this is to say you’re the reason I’m playing this game even after giving up on it a million times. So thank you and I hope you keep sharing these one-of-a-kind videos!!

Fair warning - essay incoming. When you were talking about how GRBP helped you out, it reminded me of how LA Noire & GTA 5 helped me through some shit. It was 2013, I was 15, and my pop had his first stroke of 3 (maybe 4, we're not sure about that last one) - the first was his worst one, because he went from being highly independent to heavily reliant on others. My mum - one of his many, many kids - was the only one who stepped up to help him; everyone else was more than happy to coast along & let my parents deal with the hard yakka - you ask me, I think they (mum's siblings, just to be clear) were just waiting for him to croak so they could swoop in & steal his money. Anyway, I was in 9th grade, and my attendance was spotty at best, but not too long after pop moved in, I found myself feeling like shit all the time, and it got to the point where I didn't go back to school for the rest of the year. I couldn't really do anything to help my mum & dad, and I felt completely useless. My mum took me to a shrink, and I was diagnosed with depression, which is still a constant companion almost 11 years later, and I was struggling with the most basic things. I had a TV & my X360 set up in my bedroom and I'd play LA Noire and, when it came out, GTA 5. I still have fond memories of working the Homicide desk on cold rainy days, huddled under blankets on my bed. I remember playing GTA 5 with my dad late at night when pop was asleep & he didn't have to watch out for him. Eventually, I got help, went back to school, met some people that had a big impact on my late teens & early 20s, but I credit those games with giving me enough breathing room to help me get back to where I needed to be. I haven't finished the video yet, but I felt compelled to share. Thanks for the videos, Deef. Stay cool, legend 🤙

First I want to thank you for speaking out about your mental health and difficult times, it's not easy to do and this negative stigma it has is unjustified. I have a plethora of games where fond memories were created and to this day, I know which game helped me during which moment. From Splinter Cell series, Ghost Recon, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Hitman, Souls borne games, Silent hill, Resident Evil, The last of Us, the list goes on. I believe games that provide an immersive experience to the player in a way that creates a high level of verisimilitude, means the creators of said game were successful. Short sided people who don't understand that video games is not just for kids, games nowadays are so deep with their story, graphics, immersion that it's a perfect way out for many. Depression is serious, life is hard, and playing games for me is like therapy. It gets me through the toughest times, as does playing sports, reading books, music, social activities. Using Ghost Recon Breakpoint/Wildlands as an example; Just walking around, looking at the environment, peaceful, there's something about it. The concentration that it requires to tactfully clean up areas. I feel like I'm there and it's an incredible feeling. I want to play games until I am unable to, I started playing Super mario 3 on Nintendo when i was 3 or 4 yrs old, Im 37 now and I will continue to do what makes me happy, to hopefully continue my pursuit of happiness. Fantastic video!

As a kid who grew up pretty deep in poverty with a mother drug addict and her frequently abusive boyfriend, without my Nintendo 64 who knows where I would be today. Getting lost in The Legend of Zelda the Ocarina of Time, and getting so good at GoldenEye that I managed to get the golden gun ( requires you to beat the hardest mission on hard in under a minute and 50 seconds or thereabouts).... those are the days to taught me to love gaming. For many years after that I got lost in Worlds, from Final Fantasy VII as a young teenager, the years of playing sports games with my buddies as a young man, falling out of love with video games in my mid-20s, and then finding a series called Dark Souls, that reignited my love for gaming that is carried through this very day. Just played the demo for a game called Flintlock that looks to be pretty damn awesome

Can't imagine what that was like for you, but I'm glad you got through it. GoldenEye & OOT were incredible games then and still now, and made you sweat for the victory more than once, in a good, challenging and fulfilling way. I actually just finished the new FFVII (my partner & I played the old one as kids) and it has taken me back to that feeling again, in it's own way. I think once you love games, you always love them, and the right ones will eventually find their way into your life and take a hold. Flintlock looks cool! You will have to check out Blight Survival once it comes out, might be up your alley also!

Hey @deefactual i know you probably will never see this comment but i have been an avid ghost recon player since wildlands and watching this video is why i fell in love with the series the endless hours of playing solo and with friends the hardcore sniping moments of recon and then the amazing gun fights. I got breakpoints collectors edition and i really never enjoyed the game as i was a hardcore wildlands player and the gear and the more arcadey aspect of the game when it came off put me off the game. But watching this video has gotten me to finally redownload the game and hopefully get my old wildlands buddys on it this is quite possibly the best video i have watched all year the emotion that was showed the amazing gameplay and the amazing story telling was all there i met most of my good friend on wildlands sadly most of them are no longer playing games. But those memories will always live on when i play that game. A true thank you from a ghost recon lover to another lover of ghost recon glad your enjoying the best francize gaming has to offer. ill def be watching more of your content

And I downloaded rust and escape from tarkov.. those two games have a special place in my heart.. even 4 or 5 years later

I just started playing this game and immediately fell in love with it. I came in after all the updates and luckily I came across your videos that told me to turn on immersive mode and such. I just wanted to say how much I love your videos. I’m on PS5 because it’s free on my premium account but I’m tempted to buy it for my pc just to check out the 1st person mod. Anyway. I wish I knew people like you that played the game bc I’d love to experience it with another real person. Take care bro.

I’m glad you got sir thing out of this game , I enjoy watching you playing and love the banter between you and your friend or even when your playing yourself and just mocking tbe ai 😂 Thank you for your honesty

This is gonna be a big yapp session and kinda personal and something i probably shouldn't talk about but at this point i don't care. Back in 2020 my great grandfather was on his death bed, it was putting a lot of stress on my family and there was some other things happening with his side of the family I won't get into. But there was this girl I had been in love with for half a year, a month before everything with my great grandfather happened I had told her how I felt. She felt the same but said she didn't want to be in a relationship until we finished highschool. I told her I was fine with it and we just kept hanging out and playing video games together. One day this game (ghost recon breakpoint) had a free trial I fell in LOVE WITH IT idk why but I had so much fun playing it. Skip ahead a few days my trial was over and later that week she gave me some money to buy a game, I bought this even though I think she wanted me to buy a game we could play together. But a week and a half later everything with my great grandfather was going on and I cut off contact with all my friends, even my Best friend who I've known for 4 years at the time 8 years now. But like I said I cut contact off with everyone even her, it broke her heart I left her on read and ignored her calls. Instead of telling the people I loved and cared about what was happening, I instead became selfish and hurt not only myself but them. I didn't know what to do so I played breakpoint, and it helped me get through it I was feeling better. Then after the funeral I started talking to them again, and understood that I broke her heart. I felt shitty again for it, found out she was dating another friend that was there for her during that, now I felt jealousy, anger and hatred for what I did. I just kept playing breakpoint and It got me through it, later I felt like she didn't understand what I was going through or anything. But I realized that I didn't fully understand what I put HER through. I will admit I was a POS for what I did I wont deny it... But after a couple weeks we started talking again and playing games again it was nice. I apologized to her after a while and we just kinda went back to normal. I'm yapped for so long my game finished already lol. I no longer talk to her as some things happened between her and my friend but I'm happy. Breakpoint was an enjoyable experience and because of you I redownloaded it just because of you. Ty brother I wish you the Best. And to those who read all of this, don't let one person drag you down with them, don't let nobody change who you are.

Just from watching you play this game, you play exactly like me. Always walk, always taking your time, always silent, always let patrolling vehicles pass by without firing on them, your settings are the EXACT same that i have them, although i like a couple of extra HUD. I also like to camo up to colours that suit the environment. I can absolutely guarantee that when you walk through the environments, you admire the scenery everywhere you go to the smallest of details, all while watching out for bad guys. And that is the reason you walk. I only ever use vehicles when the game forces me too, or when I have to go back to Erewhon. Which is usually by chopper. We would defo make a good team! Mods give this game more life than it already has :) i use some of what you use but there are a TON of camo mods too. Couple of my faves are "Brazilian Lizard" and "Ukraine MM-14". Haven't played the game since May so there are probs a ton more by now. Check them out though, that Brazilian Lizard is real good, you blend in and nearly become invisible in the jungles. Ah man, I'm gonna have to play this game again soon.

How I got into this game was. I used to be a “gta TikToker” last year (2023) I decided to randomly start drama/beef between big gta TikTokers, (I’ll spare you the long story) which lead to one creator blocking me & others not to be chill with me, well I still am chill with some. But I decided I would try Ghost Recon out. (First it was wildlands bc of gamepass) & i enjoyed it, but then my friend was like what game is that, and we decided on downloading the newer one which was Breakpoint. We thought it was a gonna be a short-phase of this game, but for me I fell in love with it. I enjoyed how you have the free-roam of like gta, but in mil-sim game! I decided to post Ghost Recon on my TikTok, at first the views low, but now they’re steady. But Now In 2024: My TT Account i post GR:BP & Fortnite (and im happy we’re im at)

Thanks for the video. I thought I was the only one who had a special relationship with this game. I was lucky enough to spend 700 hours in it, most of which I spent in single player format, I found certain meanings and associations that keep me coming back again and again, especially in light of the recent events in my country, for me this game has entered a new phase, a new meaning. Now that many have left it, this game has gathered a core of like-minded people, people with similar character traits, with whom you can have a great time, your videos and many others who "stuck" in this game for a long time convince me of that.

This game actually got me through the pandemic. I was at a point where I was feeling a gaming fatigue, fps games like COD were just becoming a slog, and I just couldn’t get into certain games. But then I heard about Ubisoft completely revamping the game by bringing in Immersive mode, and as someone who did try the game when it first came out I was like “oh okay maybe it’s time I gave it a second chance” a choice I don’t think I have regretted because it has kinda become my desert island game.

i still remember opening that gift from my brother on christmas and seeing a ghost recon title i’ve never heard of, never saw any trailers or heard any hype- just got the game and played it when i first played it was a really in depth realistic take on the division game, crossbred with ghost recon. when i came back to it the devs had taken to hyper realism type updates- focusing on milsim and real world elements to create a tactical and realistic environment i haven’t seen many games get the love from their respective creators the way breakpoint has, they waited until ubisoft stopped holding the game accountable for making money and they straight up made a passion project with a triple A financial backing… they’re goddamned geniuses. not only did they add the milsim aspects, but they’ve allowed us the ability to customize most of the gameplay experience to suit us individually, GHOST EXPERIENCE PARAMETERS is the kindest gift a dev team has ever handed gamers in a vanilla experience

22:25 I cant play 1st person perspective games… Red Dead 2 nailed both perspectives back in 2018… i mean both perspectives should be standard upon launch of any shooter, let alone a tactical shooter. Inside buildings I would love to switch to first person when clearing rooms but outside… yeah I HAVE to be in 3rd person. As much as I love Ghost Recon, i will not buy the next one if its 1st person only. That makes me sad.

started playing like that a few times. Actually the rule was: start new character, if he dies only once delete the save and start from scratch. 😅 I did this at least 20 times, never managed to get through the game like that but it generates so much intensity and forces you to be on your toes. And after the first few times, when you're really pissed off for dying, you start appreciating the absolute hilarious things that get you killed. 😂Because it is never the hard missions or locations that you expect, most times it is some really stupid random encounter or driving off a cliff by accident or something like that. 😂😂😂

since you mentioned how to set AI Vasiliy in overwatch, something I hope the next GR game includes is a feature from the very first GR games: letting you control AI teammates' movements and ROE separately. I don't like how ordering AI teammates to "go loud" or fire at will sends them running all over the map instead of staying stacked on me or in an overwatch position. Hopefully any "Ready or Not" influence on the next GR game also improves the AI team's CQB performance, since that's sorely lacking in both Wildlands and Breakpoint. Also I'm glad you spoke to the benefits of avoiding fast travel. It has a purpose but using it more than sparingly loses so much immersion and feeling "in the zone" IMO. Same with vehicle summons, which I almost completely avoid in Wildlands in favor of a "living off the land" style.

Ubisoft wants to make next Ghost Recon first person because they've already had all the work done for the unreleased Ghost Recon battle royale, so that they don't have to put in more work for the third person perspective. I hope they will not F it up, but I have no faith in the current AAA market. The worst thing is that they will probably turn off the servers for GR:B in the future like they did for The Crew recently, which is unacceptable and I don't even want to think about it, because I enjoy GR:W and GR:B a lot. PS I absolutely love your videos and editing style, you made me start my own YT channel focused on extraction shooters, tactical shooters and shooters in general and I am now learning cinematic editing from you. I always wanted to do it, but needed that last push, however bad it may sound :D

Thank you bud, aye the Crew business was bad, very very bad. I hope lessons get learned by AAA devs from that. Nobody should be above consumers rights in that regard, people paid for a game, they should have access to it.

This game was definitely a big part of me growing up and it was really good, glad you felt the same way. How did you get the voice modifier going by the way?

Skyrim was my game. It was given to me in middle school when I was going through a very dark time due to family troubles and I still play Skyrim every few months as a coping mechanism. Same as breakpoint, Skyrim is not a perfect game and it has flaws but it will always have an extremely special place in my heart forever.

Hey DEEF, great photography! Are you using the ingame photomode and do you edit the pictures afterwards? (editing jpgs is so annoying and my mousespeed is really high in the photomode :D) I think a mission/level designer to create your own missions/stories and share them would be great for the next game. Anyways, great video and glad you got through those hard times

that game will be fo4 for me. particularly fo4 modding. about a year ago my dad died and I was about to spend a lot of time back home helping my mom, and not in Manhattan or my new soho apartment. I was pretty exclusively an EA NHL player on xbox since I was like 11 years old and I had gotten so sick of that team's antics that I knew if I was going to be wasting time, it couldnt be playing that game anymore. I went to microcenter a couple weeks later and bought the parts to put together my first big boy PC since doing so with my father about 20 years earlier. There's just so much to learn that it has kept me engaged whenever I have downtime. I am kinda a workaholic, and I feel like some of the appeal is that I can go down the rabbit hole and quietly work on a little project when everybody else in the house is already asleep. I've barely even played the game itself. 10 months later and I am still working on perfecting my modded version.

Stumbled across this and just had to watch. I recently cleared out my watch history to get rid of the algorithm driven - misery inducing videos and this popped up shortly afterward. A truly fantastic video as always and thank you so much for sharing your journey with us dude. Long may you find happiness and share with others. Be well. 👍

I too have had some good experiences with this game that keeps me playing. I am an Army veteran and being a console player we are pretty limited with tactical shooters. When the immersive mode came out it was peaceful, tense and nostalgic. I am mostly solo due to not having anyone that has stuck around or that plays on the more realistic settings. But with all that said it is still lots of fun running those solo operations and looking forward to the future of ghost recon to continue to have those feelings that I have had with this game. Great video and thank you for sharing your experience.

Appreciate you sharing your story too mate, I think that's as important as enjoying the games, knowing how we all enjoy them and what they mean to each person on a personal level. Cheers to you!

Great video, great production value, and great storytelling. Love your approach. I work in game dev and just want to say that as flawed/jank Breakpoint was at launch, it was and is still an incredible game that deserves to be played. One of the few games that got killed by reviewers that I ended up playing to completion and loving it. It sounds like you found it years later after many patches and improvements, which further speaks to how good the game eventually got. It deserves a second chance. Your play settings and mod bring the game more in-line with the survival extraction shooter genre that’s exploding at the moment (Tarkov, Gray Zone, etc). Ubisoft could actually release a modified variant of Breakpoint that would probably slap, given the current market demand for this kind of shooter. Anyway, great job with your content and thanks for sharing how you play Breakpoint!

Thank you mate! I worked in game dev as an audio designer and composer (the latter primarily) for 15 years, so I know how much blood, sweat and tears every person on those teams puts into their work. Massive respect for developers who ride solo too, it's a real challenge and not an easy undertaking 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

Honestly, I used to play this game with absolutely everything that gives me hints turned on but ever since I came across your videos I've decided to turn them all off and download spartan and it is a much more fun experience now, you're an absolutely amazing watch, I'm glad this game has helped you out so much. I also really took a liking to your outfit with the brown top whilst you were on Golem and was wondering if you haven't already if you would share it, thanks.

Caring for one of your loved ones is one of the heaviest emotional burdens you can take on in your life. I had to do the same thing about 2 years ago after my mother had a stroke, and I too found myself not wanting to do the things I once enjoyed. Luckily I had others encourage me to talk to a therapist, and I'm now the happiest I think I've ever been in my life. Mental health is the same as physical health; if you want to be healthy, you have to put in the work. Proud of you brother, and let me know if you ever want another Ghost to venture with. 👊

It sounds selfish to say, but it does drain you, because it is such a massive weight we chose to take on. Heaviest is the right word I think. Sorry to hear that about your mum mate, that sounds like heavy weight indeed. I'm glad you got talking with a therapist, honestly, I compare it to physical ailments, if you hurt your back, you would go to physio, so why not go to "physio" for your mind as well. Proud of YOU mate, good to see others be able to see a problem and ask for help. I will keep it in mind, thanks bud
