One big tip is that many devices which CAN'T be placed on the ground, CAN be placed on a metal foundation. The autocrafter is one of these ... so you can put down a foundation outdoors and use an Autocrafter at your mines, algae pods, etc.

Autocrafters can see things above or below them. Rather than building everything on one level it might be worth expanding up so you can put some intermediary steps on the level above where they are out of the way but can still reach.

an autocrafter can harvest algae directly. I usually build a platform on the water near the algae generator with an autocrafter on top, for fertilizer and bacteria samples/ mutagens

Congratulations on finally figuring out the DNA manipulator. :D Since you have the T2 ore extractor, you can just mine super alloy rather than burning all your aluminum/silicon/whatever. Check the map for suitable mining locations. The game expects you to get the incubator before the beehive; I suspect they unlocked out of order for you because you haven't been keeping up your basic terraforming stats (hint: more heat/pressure rockets would help a lot). Autocrafters can go on platforms or on roofs, and can collect from the algae spreaders and the lake water collector, so you can put one on the lake to make bacteria samples.

Honestly, just the receipe for bacteria sample screams "place me in middle of your algae / lake collector and your fertilizer autocrafter", since it's 100% lake mats. *slaps forehead* Guess certain someone's ears are too full of rattling sounds to hear.

Hi Martin! I like the larvae system. It reintroduces the idea of scanning the ground for resources -- just like how things were at the beginning of the game.

If you upgrade your Aluminium miners to tier 2 you should get about 50% mined goods to be Aluminium. T1 miners I think it is 30% worth of materials will be designated ore

The miner did give him more than two aluminum, but the auto-crafter picked his pocket before he was even back inside.

@@Endymionologist Nope, it gave him 2 Aluminum, 5 Iron, 4 Titanium, 2 Magnesium, 3 Cobalt, and 1 Silicon. Very easy to see if you pause while he's at the Ore Extractor. He definitely needs to upgrade to T2 and build more than one. But by the time he realizes that he'll probably have unlocked T3 Ore Extractors and it will all be moot.

Honestly, it's BS. The planet is barren at start, little or none O2 and no fluid H2O, untill O2 just is there (your little pot plants are joke on planetary scale). Even if it's former life-bearing planet, there's no reason for native butterfly larvae being sole surviving life (so far, since later plankton, fish eggs, and frog eggs magically appear). Bah, meteor impact is not enough to make lakes move into caves as ice, and I could go on. It's best to just move on and not notice implausibility.

They only show up after you get trees… I don’t think the larvae are native to the planet. Then again, if they are not native, the tree dna somehow came with “generates larvae”-genes. Which is so not a thing.

I'm not sure these larvae are native animal life. The planet seemed about as barren as Mars a few in-game years ago. But maybe they are native. No story spoilers, please.

Autocrafters can be built outside and can pick algae from the water if they are in range.

It really seems to be more a descriptor than actual indication of rarity. Uncommon were my bottlenecks forever since you need those to make bees which you need for the rockets. Granted I launched 20 of the things and quill will probably just chuck one and call it a day.

Hi quill you can make a room over the algae producers and put the auto crafters in the middle of the room because they will collect it directly from the producers. then put your storage containers around the outside of the room with the side of the storage container to the wall of the room and the other containers back to back then labeled them with a sign that uses just one pice of magnesium. Then you just need to keep them full of ingredients until you unlock automation for transporting items. Trying not to spoil anything for you. But you should understand what I’m talking about with the automaton when you unlock it.

I know your not gonna read the comments, but it would be a great idea to move some food growers over to the water where your algee production is, so you can automate the food into fertilizer and stuff.

Oh, autocrafters have a spherical range for drawing items, so stacking storage above, below and around the autocrafters is best.

you realy ought to upgrade the Aluminium extractor to a tier 2, you clearly NEED it and it will probably be even more important as you keep progressing.

I can see the point of having a few dedicated auto crafters, but one can be used as a I need X now, and then just let it make a few of X and the turn it off.. They are fast and otherwise you could end up with piles of say rods when you need nuggets or worse piles of Mutagen when you need methane for something else.. then you need to deconstruct a bunch of finished goods just to get back what you need... I get the drive to do that.. its what something like factorio would have you do, but I think this game is build with a different approach.

That's the vibe I got as well. I don't personally play this game so I don't know how good or a bad idea this is, but to me it feels like the Factorio part of Quill's brain is driving him to overdo on the autocrafters. Those things are expensive and he seems to want to autocraft everything so he doesn't have to, and I don't think that's the type of game this is. But I don't actually know, so maybe it is.

The recycler will break down rods back to their component parts... of course if they are in range of an autocrafter set to make rods....

The autocrafters are going to go through so much aluminum cause both recipes require aluminum.

You don't need to redesign your base. First, you can move your algae closer, it doesn't matter even if some of the circle is on land. Second you can use foundation or 1x1 room near lake for bacteria sample autocrafter, then have mutagen autocrafter in your base in a place so it can grab off 1st autocrafter. Note that bacteria sample is tradeable, meaning it's fine to produce and store as much as you can. PS Have you ever heard the story of Jack and Beanstalk *coughintcough*

You know, Quill... If you need more of a thing, then make more of the producers for the thing... sideeffect: everything else will go faster as well =) If you need more aluminium, then make more extractors for it =) (Or possibly elsewhere, to make matters even simpler *hint hint nudge nudge*)

Now Quill will rue the day his gas extractor quit giving methane... I did comment that he needed to gather them as often as possible. Now he has to wait until Gas extractor 2 machines to get methane reliably...

Do we have drones yet to pick up and move all the resources for your auto crafters, I haven’t seen one but a lot is done off screen. Also as everyone else has stated, the metal platforms can have both auto rafters and storage lockers placed on them for use outside

Did you ever upgrade your Tier 1 Miners to Tier 2? That could effect the materials they are producing.

i know he'll never see this note, but why autcraft alloy, when he can place a miner in cave with alloy ---> for what it's worth, the reason things seem to be unlocking outta order is related to HOW you advance things

The have drones to move things from resources to lockers, you can even get it set up to move the ores from the miners to your lockers

If you're serious about the second floor for the Autocrafters, then why not dedicate one floor for building materials and the other strictly for life-related constructs?
