Eh. Everyone says that but I find it visually impossible to get in to at all. You really still just have to read the text log and imagine most of it happening in your mind cause the visuals and tile format are just horrendous. Whoever makes a game like this that's visually modern with the same mechanics is going to hit gold.

Its fun to watch someone fumble around and figure things out. I must admit though attacking the megasloth so flippantly was anxiety inducing . I know its called a "sloth" but that thing cam rip your face off in a second. Se advice, stick with vanilla for a while, the game is beautiful and epic in its natural environment. Mods are great but addicting, i literally cannot play vanilla anymore. Enjoy it while you can hehe

I have been playing Rimworld since the alpha 16 days and after around 2.900 hours of play I can tell you mods allow you to fully alter how you play, I have done playthrus set in the Mass Effect, 40k, Elderscrolls, Star Wars and even Warcraft universes as well as playing in different time settings like Neolithic, bronze and iron ages to more mythical settings like stoneage but with dinosaurs to full medieval fantasy with elves, undead and magic oh and modern day zombie apocalypse. current run is as a rogue AI with android colonists that enslave and cyborg up the fleshy ones XD - a near unlimited treasure trove of tales of glory and tantrums awaits you once your ready to dip into the mods XD also a often overlooked or unknown feature of the base game is that you can run upto 5 colonies at the same time - you need to go into the options tab and change a setting as its defaults to allowing only one colonies but due to the sheer amount of data and the fact rimworld was never build with multicore support actually running more then one colony at a time greatly stresses the game sadly lol

When you give your colonists too many orders at once it takes everything longer to complete. Consider small tasks, then when they are completed, add more tasks.

A tip to maximise fun for when you start a new play-through. When selecting your starting gang, you want to have them fill roles that you will need to survive the start of the game. So looking at these "skills" aka shooting, farming etc. Also match your team with the climate you have chosen to settle. I wish you so much fun with the game and I am excited to watch your journey!

Yeah the idea is amazing and early game is fantastic ... but mid and late-game sucks , it becomes repetitive and extremely slow and tedious ... I never managed to last past 4th asteroid because games become so tedious, slow and grind... even on triple speed the game is dragging, for example, I am trying to clean up the area 10 x 10 from the mined rubbles and it is literally taking 2 hour in real-time ... so I am sitting there and waiting ... designers seriously need to speed up things in the end game but yeah the game is potentially amazing ... I Have the same issue with Anno why is everything so slow ... and why does each section of wonder need 30 min real-time...

Asteroid? If cleaning is taking so long on maximum speed, then your PC may just be too slow to keep up with the game and slowing down. Even then, it is an RPG, so the story of the characters and the colony is the main point of the game. BUT, i would never play vanilla, it is simply too limiting and boring. This game is peak with mods.

it's a colony simulator, yeah, and the genre, being niche, hasn't diverged that much since being pioneered by DF and dungeon keeper saying it's just a clone, though, would be about as fair as calling warcraft a dune clone imo compared to DF the main difference is it is considerably streamlined, so as to be a significantly better game at the cost of being a much worse simulation

@@yjlom seems worse, but colony simulation if thats what this is, is not really my jam, I can respect DF for what it is and has pioneered, and I guess rimworld thought there was a big enough audience to mine from, and seems they were right. It just looks like a much worse DF to me though, especially with DF's remaster.

@@vexienroe I personally much prefer DF 47.x to 50.x, but that's mostly a matter of UI rimworld is much less complex and doesn't simulate quite as much especially in the wider world, but uses the gaps in the simulation to create more game-y experiences (which one can like or not) also since it's 2D and doesn't have history simulator, it tends to avoid FPS death, and you don't need to for example turn off temperature for the game to be playable another thing is, generally speaking, rimworld implements fewer systems than DF, but what it does implement is far more complete, polished and bug-free there's a lot of charm to DF's 10K half-working systems, but losing 90% of your fort to a tantrum spiral because an xx☼alpaca wool sock☼xx has been "desecrated" or for the crime of assigning a poisoner isn't for everyone, neither is having the game crash on repeat because 200 goblins and beak dogs enter combat on the same frame when your militia turns around the corner DF legends mode on the other hand is awesome and the only thing of its kind as far as I'm aware

It looks like df and doesn't seem more approachable still looks "complicated" (in bit size chunks I think df is the same, looks complicated but isnt). But there is clearly something people like about it.
