For those curious, the reason why Sarah dies, but can still get kidnapped by Jack is - according to the game's Wikipedia page - because at the end of the game Jack and his Fiends travel back 2000 years in time to set up the conditions that will create the Warriors of Light, which erases everything that happened in the game. No, really. This whole game was a DnD party realizing they had a bad party build, and deciding to reroll and start over.

That's right. After what Jack has done to Lufenian, he and his co travel 2000 years into the past and have since waited until the King and the set up for the supposed prophecy came. Hence Jed quotes, "It hasn't been our friend, the king reign yet." Or something along that line. When 2000 years passed. Jack triggers the whole prophecy by kidnapping the princess. Then fights WoL. If WoL dies, he reset the timeline again using the crystal matrix he stole from Lufenian.

Considering how the WoL and Garland both draw from their Dissidia representations in design and moveset, I think it's probably intentional. This implies the presence of tech to produce audio recording equipment and (if software is indeed involved) some form of computer to make that software on, the tech required to produce those computers, and programming languages. Programming languages then imply software to write code in (IDE’s), which means there must be IDE development software, also some sort of fantasy github or bitbucket, which implies some sort of INTERNET… Sure, both are at least modern tech, but a thruster is something that can far more easily be explained as some form of magical technology compared to an IPod

@@sarafontanini7051 how can you say that when the animations for each boss are so unique. They even contribute to phase 2 transitions. Like the dark Knight you kill his horse and throw the corpse at him which he smashes in mid air. Then for the full kill you repeatedly knee him in the head repeatedly until you remove the head and then impale him on his own spear. With behemoth he resists the crystallisation becoming a crystal dragon in the second phase. With the chimera, you start to crystallise the wings and that causes the extra heads to sprout out then for the final kill you bait the heads to attack the main body to finish it off. With the zombie dragon you rip spines out and turn them into crystal projectiles to throw and finish it off. I could go on but compared to most games, that is way more attention to detail

I love how in most other FF games, aside from like the NES ones where you make the whole party yourself, the characters usually have to come together and typically argue a bit or they have some pre-established relationships, but here they just go “You got a crystal? You’re alright, get in!” and that’s all you need to join the merry band of chaos killers.

Honestly, despite Shen and Milky ribbing on the party, I actually really like their dynamic. Most of the scenes aren't shown in this video (in fact, I don't think any of them are), but Jack is more than the gruff 'screw everything, let's go just' guy he comes off in the beginning (the part of the story where all he is is just an impulse to kill Chaos). He actually does develop over time and the group's dynamic actually works for me. I can see them being friends and getting along. There are points where Jack does talk about how he comes off as angry when he does mean to, and the party makes jabs at him for it too. It's definitely a memey game, but I actually felt bad in the finale. I just think that going into w/ the impression it would just be one big joke while not really trying to take it seriously does make you blind to certain elements. It's why I laughed at Dead Space the whole way through when most people are spooked going through - I was w/ people that led to me trying to be funny/entertaining. Some kinda of media don't really work in groups if you're expected to pay attention to sporadic moments.

The different series created by Team Four Star over the years are actually really fantastic, I’d highly recommend them.

I've played ff1 and I unironically love this game. The sense of humour in the first half of the game is great and then the ending is nutty and I loved it. Then on your second playthrough, the throw away dialogue you hear between your companions early on has a double meaning. For example in the second level, you hear your team mates saying "Jack is something else, do you think he could be the one?" The way the game is setup this just sounds like generic "wow strong main character, he really could be the one to kill chaos" when if you know the ending, you know that's not what they mean at all! Same with when you fight astos, leading up to it, he keeps asking "who am I?" And acts disappointed with your answers because he wants you to say "his friend" but your answers keep confirming the lie and you're unintentionally hurting him. I thought it was really clever how they used the corny humour and back drop to really drive that contrast between the first and second half. Sure the graphics are ass and the level design is pretty basic but the gameplay was stellar so honesty shaping up to be my goty

@@DuelaDent52 Really? Irony aside what is good about this game? The gameplay is a watered down Nioh clone where the jobs do little to nothing at all. Weapon and armor designs are incredibly bland or outright ugly (Personally) The story also isn't fun, Garland is not a sympathetic villain at all and Jack doesn't help that case. He goes the entire game telling people to shut up and fuck off and being an ass and then in the last 80% of the game has a complete 180 in his character and starts to really care about his ""friends"" and question all he's doing which is tonal whiplash in a 15 hour game. Dissidia did much more for Garland as a character than Jack does. I know Time Loops are a thing and that this is just one of the loops but even then that feels more like a cop out answer to avoid talking about this mess of a game.

Real talk wasn't much of a villain orgin by the end. You don't really get to be evil. By the time the "story" is done, the game has gone out of its way to justify your actions so you don't have to feel bad. Deeeespite that being why most people picked up this game in the first place.
