I've been playing Cassette Beasts since a streamer friend of mine played it on stream and it's a game I've enjoyed to hell and back for multiple reasons, the 'Shinies' aren't as much of a pain to get, the 'shinies' called Bootlegs (which fits the theme more) actually do something by changing types, sticker sets and so on. The boss fights are all treats and I ADORE how the music changes based on if you're fused or not with the former letting you hear the lyrics and absolutely jam out

From the whole 'being sent to another world full of monsters', fusion, and transforming into the monsters; this reminds me more of Digimon than Pokemon honestly. The only 'Pokemon' thing about it are the monster designs being vaguely 'pokemon-esque' and the whole ranger thing being gyms basically. edit: If you want people to play the game themselves, you should probably link the game's steam page in the description y'know.

This game is a what if Pokemon but the devs still have passion. Man the QoL for this game is amazing. - Fast travel are easy and unlocked immediately. - Baton Pass as core mechanic instead of a skill - Overworld skill that can also have effect on starting a combat - skill that can be switched easily. Even during combat. Due to the. 2v2 format, there's a skill that can only exist in that format that is Mind Meld. Which is basically sharing skill between 2 beasts without limit. So yeah this game has no limitations. Also if you're wondering, there's a lot of build where you can ORKO any enemies at turn zero

Digimon is still an odd one to be called a pokemon clone since uh, it's pretty different. I'll be honest, the only thing Pokemon and Digimon share is that you gather creatures to fight with and they can evolve. Digimon though, digimon can deevolve and get multiple different forms and there's more options to what you want your mon to become, there's no set evolutionary path and you can go back down the line to do something else. Plus uh they did multiple things where they had biomerge where the humans literally became a digimon with their partner and fought together and the whole merging with other digimon to make a new one was also digimon's thing so unlike Pokemon that had the same thing all the time, Digimon tried new things all the time. But yeah digimon's story in games usually wasn't too great though (though I think cyber sleuth's story is at least interesting enough that I want to keep going and it looks nice so there's that) and tends to be a slog so yeah major sad thing since I like the series a ton, it's just really hard to commit to a grind. ;w; Anyway, this game sounds interesting, I'mma go ahead and wishlist it haha.

Great video! Personally, I definitely prefer Pokemon because it's about catching your favorites, becoming a strong trainer, etc. There's no real "threat" and you're kind of a kid who just ends up helping in most of the games. Also, the fusion aspect of this game (and becoming one of the monsters) was already done by Digimon. People really sleep on Digimon games. If anything, this game reminds me more of Digimon since it involves people being sucked into another world and there's monsters.

I can't remember where I saw this first, but saw that it had the Fusion mechanic and was pretty interested (espeically since a certain fan game has taken over the internet rn.) This game does something that I feel a lot of monster catching games right now fail to do one crucial point: make the monster designs interesting. Everyone thinks that Pokemon is just an animal with an element attached to it, which is only some of them. But people take that mindset for their own games, and make the monsters just so uninteresting. It's why I dropped Monster Sanctuary. The designs didn't follow that pattern, but were still pretty generic. From what I've seen, the designs look interesting! That bat with the microphone is really cute and that skeleton boss gets me super excited becuase I love the multimedia angle! If i'm playing a monster catcher RPG, I wanna see interesting designs. Digimon goes pretry damn extra with the desgins, and SMT/Persona has fantastic interpritations of Mythological beings. Point is, someone finally make an Pokemon-like indie game with interesting designs!

Huh... I saw this on Steam a while back, and wouldn't you know, I shrugged it off as 'Just another Pokémon-clone'. You gotta admit, there's quite a few of those on Steam, like Nexomon or Corromon, that literally ARE just trying to copy the Pokémon formula, while maybe adding a slightly more mature tone and story in order to suit an older audience. For the most part, they're predictable, uninspired, mid at best, and just makes you realize how much care and polish went into the classic Pokémon-games - because it's *absent* there. Seems I was wrong to assume that Casette Beasts fell into this category, though. Methinks I'll give it a chance... thanks for the heads-up!
@Art-enjoyer_Fern
@Art-enjoyer_Fern Жыл бұрын
Did you just say Nexomon is uninspired and had no care put into it 💀💀💀 to be fair I played the second one so I can't judge on the first one if that's what you're commenting on but if we're both thinking of the same game then that could just honestly genuinely not be *FURTHER* from the truth. I put more hours into that game then some actual canon Pokémon games, and this is coming from someone that has genuinely tried to get back into stuff and hadn't managed to get into something in a way I can't put down in ages. That game is BRIMMING with nooks and crannies to explore, genuinely really funny dialogue, and bits and pieces and quests everywhere you look if you wanna find them, has an incredible artstyle and overall design and really really engaging main story- all while even making sure there's value in replayability and you can customise the game without changing the code in any way straight up in the menu to facilitate niche playstyles of the community like randomised encounters or nuzlockes or even heightening or lowering the difficulty. Like sure it's not a perfect game even if it gets pretty close and you also don't HAVE to like it, but like common my guy💀💀💀 don't just say there was no love put into it. It's very much doing its own thing not just a clone and going way harder at it then it had to.
@BlakeTheDrake
@BlakeTheDrake Жыл бұрын
@@Art-enjoyer_Fern Well, conversely, I haven't played the second one - I played the first one, and soon lost interest. Not saying it doesn't have some kind of value or care put into it, but you can't claim, with a straight face, that it isn't designed to be a Pokémon clone. It may be a GOOD clone - that's a matter of taste - and it may have all manners of sterling qualities on top of that, but it's still a Pokémon-game with the serial-number filed off, impossible to play without comparing it directly to its obvious inspiration. Cassette Beasts, though - which I've by now played and finished - ISN'T trying to be Pokémon, but very much its own thing. The similarities essentially stop at 'collectible monsters' - everything from how the monster-catching is handled, how you level up, how monsters get stronger, how items work, how you explore the world... it's all clearly distinct, and shows that the developers were trying to make a cool game about collecting monsters, not Pokémon: Steam Edition.

The Archangels might be one my favourite sets of bosses in any game ever. They took the whole "completely and deliberately unfitting artstyle" idea that the likes of Madoka Magica's Witches used and just RAN with it, seeing things like stopmotion skeletons or fully 3D monstrosities in a game thoroughly based around sprites and pixelly graphics just perfectly sells how eldritch, powerful and downright WRONG they are, perfectly mirroring how the game's characters react to Archangels like just looking at the thing hurts their heads. It’s not a clone, its a massive step-up. Love the fact that recording a monster prevents it from being accidentally KO’ed as you try to reduce its HP without bringing it to 0. A quality of life improvement. It saddens me seeing pokemon being an annualized franchise, the foundation that makes GameFreak developers crunch so hard that they’re approaching breaking point (see GireumRed videos, no links bc youtube anti-spam), modern pokemon games is facing devoid of content, reused assets (sun and moon’s building interiors is one example) useful features removed (dexit), and their most recent 2 pairs of main games (excluding spinoffs like Legends Arceus), a remake, BDSP, and a new game (pokemon’s first open world) SV, suffered glitches. Calling it a clone is an understatement.

I think my favourite part of the Archangels is how there are only 4 that actually fit the world. Every other one is done with a unique artstyle, notably not pixel-art. Of the ones that do fit (spoilers ahead) Shining Kuneko was created by our partner (so is supposed to be familiar) Ms. Amber gets a pass for being both friendly, and a building they had to make explorable. The Mer-line is the island of New Wirral itself, it fits the world in its artstyle because it IS the world in a literal sense and Al has a body that fits, and a face that doesn’t. Which I believe represents how Al IS very much not of “this world” but New Wirral, acting as a sort of prison for him, is the safest place for him to be. (He’s not supposed to be here, but he very much SHOULD be here, and nowhere else)

It borrows from Pokemon, as most monster collectors do, but I think Cassette beasts takes more from games like Xenoblade and Persona than it does from Pokemon. It's a decent little game, though, and definitely has its own flavor. 8/10 IMO

Found this game 2 days ago. Ran into a Djin Antonic. Been my lead since. This game honestly makes me hopeful it will pick up and be the next big catch ‘em type game cause Pokémon’s dropped the ball hard in recent years and digimon games just always miss the mark and end up being boring and rushed

11:08 I despised hearing that because it sounds like such toxic positivity to me. "Don't hate your works because you have nothing to be ashamed of!" kind of stuff, which, is true but I should be allowed to dislike something I may create. I will acknowledge that it helped me but that may not make me "love it". This sentence just rubbed me in a disgusting way, I had to get that off my chest... sorry.

No "pokémon clone" is "just another pokémon clone". Not even Temtem, even if their goal was clearly a literal "let's do Pokémon but better thought out for competitive play" That said, I am definitely getting Cassette Beasts as soon as I save up a little!
@darienb1127
@darienb1127 Жыл бұрын
My problem with TemTem and some other monster catching games are that the monster designs themselves aren't all that interesting. It feels like a lot of them just go with the "animal but with an element approach" and it turns out pretty bland. It's why I dropped Monster Sanctuary. Even though the game was mechanically really solid, none of the designs felt interesting to me

Honestly just the whole concept of calling cassette beasts a Pokémon clone just because it has mon collecting as a concept just rubs me the wrong way because Pokémon didn't invent the concept. Even in terms of video games megami tensei did it first. And while cassette beasts takes obvious inspiration from pokemon it also takes inspiration from: kamen rider, steven universe, madoka magica, shakespheare, Grant Morrisons various comics, what if the Beatles never broke up (yes that's a story and yes they confirmed they used it as inspiration in an AMA) and various myths and folklore. There is no such thin as fully original ideas and that's fine. Anyway cassette beasts kicks ass, I love the setting, characters, monsters, combat systems, exploration and soundtrack to pieces my only major complaint is that I just want more

@eirmundgundnand9442

How do you figure? MH Stories' Battle System is vastly different from this. For one, you have limited control over your monster's actions, unless you're riding them. However, you can predict what your monster is going to do because every monster has a certain personality and focuses on certain types of attacks. Which leads to the next point. You choose between three attacks: Power, Speed, and Technical. It works in a triangle system, Power beats Technical, Technical beats Speed and Speed beats Power. This comes into play when two monsters attack each other and basically go head-to-head, they deal damage to each other, but the monster that wins the clash does significantly more damage and fills the Kinship gauge. There's alot more to this than that, but you can see that it vastly different from this game.
