I love this game so much. I would play the first few levels over and over as a kid with my sister. Last year, my mum died and I was staying with my sister and we ended up playing mini ninjas again. This game holds a special place in my family's heart.

@@chromerot yeah you have to get your XP level (or whatever it’s called I forgot lol) all the way up to max. It was kind of a cool reward I just randomly found out one day playing the game on ps3 like 5 years ago lol. Messing around as a samurai is somewhat useless kinda fun, and it’s not really an advantage in the game or whatever, so it’s not giving you a sense of “oh I need to grind this game to get this”, it’s kind of just more a casual side-benefit that adds to the replayability :)

I always love fishing in this game, which is why the flooded village is my favorite level. The open area where you have to use your hat to go across the village that has been flooded is really good but my favorite fishing spot is the one close to the shop in the bamboo forest. It's just so zenny. So calming. I really want another adventure game where it doesn't always feel like 100 enemies are chasing me all the time. I want more modern games where I can explore actually beautifully stunning places and you can do small relaxing stuff there, even if it's just fishing in the middle of a bamboo forest that has been submerged. I do think that this is what we all need. It's actually getting a bit tiring with all the crazy combos with hard enemies games that we got nowadays. I mean, I like them, I like challenges, but I also like to take a deep breath once in a while. Just sit there and enjoy the view. The videogame industry, especially triple a studios, really need this type of games

Truly one of my favorite experiences as a kid, let alone video games. Seeing Suzume go down the river in her hat-boat spinning her flute around immediately brought me back to how I would always switch to her at water sections because I thought she was faster? Really glad you bring up the "futuristic" UI thing. Always in your face and needlessly complicated, ham-fisted insert into genres where it doesn't fit, and is often intrusive or immersion breaking even where it does fit. Part of why I still love Oblivion and Mini Ninjas. Oblivion's UI is your adventuring journal and map, with your item lists being like if your character was keeping a ledger with sketches alongside the entries. Mini Ninjas UI is literally the scroll you can see on the main character's back, and opening the inventory screen has it scroll horizontally like you're actually turning through an Asian style scroll. Sometimes its the simplest things that can make or break the experience.

Dude I literally just remembered this game yesterday and then forgot about it again, and then decided to see if anyone had covered it on KZbin and conveniently this video had came out not too long ago, I appreciate this. I got Mini Ninjas for my PlayStation 3 quite a few years ago probably when I was 9 or 10 in my stocking for Christmas, and me and my brother played this game to oblivion. This is definitely one of the games I most played during my childhood, and I loved it thoroughly. I still remember the first day I played it that morning, i have so many memories of it. Like, that one sledding level was so hard for me and I had to get my older cousin to beat it for me one day. I remember beating the final boss and getting so much joy out of that. I played the Boss Windy Pants level so much it just made me laugh every time and kid me loved it. I remember trying to fight those dumb monkeys that would turn into samurais and I could never dodge them. But bro that one cemetery level. I was so scared of the floating skeletons that I legitimately never played it again afterward, and I still haven’t to this day 😂. It also genuinely boggles my mind at how much I played it, yet how little I actually discovered within the game. I found a lot of the secret areas, but I also never found all the spells and never tried all the crafting stuff all that much, i basically just saved up materials for no reason lol, buying copious amounts of bombs yet never using them. AND I literally would replay only like 4 levels in the whole game, yet I still never got bored of it. It always felt amazing to try and sneak around, and wall climb and shoot from long distances. All of the levels felt unique to me and it just felt like a full experience despite not being a super long game. The levels are linear, yet also feel very spacious and most of them are set in the outside, so it makes it feel almost like an open world despite the often clear path ahead. It makes you feel unlimited and free. A clearly awesome aspect of the game is the story. It’s super simple, but it’s told exceptionally well through every little cutscenes in the game, and ESPECIALLY in those little character introductions. It really pulls you into the world and makes you feel special, and gives a great sense of progression and accomplishment getting through all the levels. At least, that’s what It felt like back when I played it. I still have it on my PlayStation, and I still have the same save file to go back to if I wanted to lol, but honestly I’d probably start over from scratch and get the full experience again since I really only got to have it once when I first played it. I really wanna set some time in a couple days soon for a special playthrough of this comforting game :)

I've played this game when I was a kid in an e-cafe in our neighborhood. And recently I remembered about the game but could find the name of it but I just stumbled upon your video randomly. Thanks bro, you've got a new subscriber

YO this game is the best, I’ve been DYING for someone to give it the recognition it deserves. I was obsessed over it as a kid and just recently found out there was a steam version, so I played it again and it holds up. Seriously a gem, ily mini ninjas

Not only did this game drop with almost no advertisements at all outside of a demo, it did so on multiple platforms. It even has a DS port.

I played this game by chance, I never saw of any adverts or anything for it. I had an Xbox back around 2011 or 12, fast forward, and whenever we used to go to a toy store, I would look in the reduced games section. Around this time they were getting rid of a lot of Xbox 360 games (rip xbox /360) I had picked this up with a few other games and honestly didn’t give it to much thought. Out of all the games. It was the one who played last, but the most I ended up for the sugar, i fell in love with its atmosphere. I had forgotten about it all these years right until I saw the thumbnail of this video. This was such a special experience in my childhood that could not be replicated. Thank you for that :))
