Is the gaming peripheral industry heading in this direction? Gaming keyboards aren't new, and modular, wireless, also optical switches aren't too. The ASUS ROG Claymore II gaming keyboard has all of that in one package, and it's fairly interesting with all those features and more combined.

Same. It doesn't help that i am currently using a $60 mechanical keyboard that feels great. Does this seem better with more features and higher quality? Sure. And i might have been willing to pay twice as much because it looks like it could cost twice to make as well. BUT the price isn't twice as much is more than 4 times as much. At that point it just feels not worth it when i already have a decent experience with what i am using.

@Quentin a much slower board? Are you high? What does that even mean? Also if you want RGB look up pudding keycaps with the K61, it puts this to shame in the RGB department. They're many boards with wireless, it's not a unique feature. Comparing this Asus gamer crap to custom keyboards with top tier switches is ridiculous. I'd take an Anne Pro 2 over this. Yooo, as a dev that also regularly takes education notes by typing, I would love to move my numpad to the left. My right hand will finally get a break. Edit: Here are some of the alternatives to this keyboard from the comments in this thread: - Separate numpad - Left handed keyboards (aka southpaw) - gk96s (a left handed keyboard, no detachable numpad) - Mountain Everest Max Keyboard (has a detachable numpad)
@jayleno2192
@jayleno2192 3 жыл бұрын
Just get a 10 keyless and a separate numpad. A decent USB numpad is like $20, although most of them break pretty easily so you might be buying a new one every year or so.
@TheRoundedTable
@TheRoundedTable 3 жыл бұрын
@@jayleno2192 I definitely considered it, it can work for many. I wanted not only a mechanical switch numpad, but also one that can keep moving with my keyboard (so that when I move around, I don't have to move it). Plus, because I have a full sized keyboard atm, having 2 numpads would look dumb and be a waste of space imo. This keyboard solves all this, *with a steep price tag*, but a keyboard that checks all the boxes is such a good investment.

@@rawhide_kobayashi Yes, that is the other alternative I've looked into. I never found anything that looks good esthetically, has RGB and has built-in media controls. @@kage_6 I've had it since December and have really enjoyed it. I don't really use their software much (or any peripheral software for that matter) so I can't really say anything other than "It works". The keyboard itself is pretty awesome though. Solid build, hot-swappable switches, detachable num pad. I will say the wrist rest was too thin for me. I reverted back to my Glorious rest for typing. I also don't really use the media dock as much as I thought I would. Which is a bummer because it seemed like such a cool attachment. I just keep it on for aesthetics and occasionally skipping songs in YT music.

If you don't want the hassle of having to constantly charge them, just get a Qi charger attachment for phones and attach it on your numpad along with a Qi charging pad so that when you're not using it, you can just place the numpad on the charging pad.

Take a look at the Mountain Everest Max when you get the chance. I would say the ease of use is over all better and build quality might be on par but that software side of it lets it down (not wireless either and has cherry reds). It was a kick starter and only recently came out of it from my knowledge, i could be completely wrong.

3:10 I like how you're able to tell how fast a linear optical switch actuates by feel, without ever having the keyboard connected. Magical! Nice unboxing otherwise, though. Movable keypad is a step up, and contactless switches definitely are too. I'm only left wondering if actuation point could be changed or not, or even if it had analog capabilities, but I assume there's not.

as a left handed person who uses the numpad for 'WASD' I would love something like this. But not as much as I'd like to see more gaming mice that can be adapted to left hand use. Not to mention be nice if game developers would add more options to allow for rebinding of numpad etc to in their games. You'd be amazed how many do not let you rebind they keys I use. Rebinding every damn game you own because you're not right handed constantly sucks and is made worse when you cannot bind the keys you actually want to use.

"affordable"? how much do you expect the price to come down in 3 years? $50? even if they come down by $100, you're going to wait 3 years and not get something you want, for the sake of saving, what, 9 cents a day (if you do the math)? will you even be alive in 3 years? life's too short, seriously. i'd be just cutting down say 1 coffee a week and enjoy the keyboard today and those weekly savings would quickly make the keyboard "affordable"

I recently bought a keyboard from Bloody that uses their Lightstrike optical keys. Has the keypad on the left which has proven just as useful to me as I thought it would. I can even do data entry pretty well with my left hand at this point though I don't so so often. I've gotten used to the short travel for activation and get very few miss strokes at this point. The springs are just enough to prevent that.

Just get a wireless mechanical numpad. They cost $30. You could also make your numpad wirelessly rechargable by taking advantage of a Qi charger so you wont have to worry about your numpad's battery life. I use a customized RK84 in tandem with a wireless mechanical numpad and it works great. If I don't need the numpad, I just put it on the charging pad and it juices up so it never runs out.

a mechanical numpad that can go on the left side is what I'm looking after for quite a while. Yes, its nice to have more room for the mouse, but also for excel when entering large strings of numbers in widely spread out cells. Not sure about optical switches tho. the foot pedal I bought on ebay for a fiver is optical and that needed some manual tinkering and a self-built hinge to be reliable in the long run.

I've never understood why keyboard manufacturers still insist on putting macro and special keys on the right when the majority of people use their mouse with their right hand. Put it on my left so I can use my left hand for more than just typing normally so I don't have to take my hand off the mouse.
