Because of disabilities that affect my extremities, I can't use a keyboard for gaming... my keyboarding is simply hunt-and-peck, so PC games are usually out for me. But this device, as odd as it looks, may actually help me, since it is adjustable for my hand size and finger mobility. I may get off my PS4 and use my PC for something other than watching KZbin.

As someone who has the ability to casually swap between thought processes, I have a huge tip for you. Don’t think of it as swapping “spacebar” to a different button, that will just confuse you. Ignore the input and set up around effect, so set a button for “jump” a button for “crouch” etc. keep those the same for each game and you’ll be fine, don’t worry about which keyboard button it relates to because that doesn’t matter, it isn’t a keyboard and there isn’t a space or shift key… This is how I’m able to easily ride motorcycles that swap between standard shift, upside down shift, shifting a car, and more with zero issues and I’ve never once missed a gear.. for me the muscle memory comes from the effect I want, not the input I’m using. It can potentially be very confusing to switch between something with built in muscle memory to something new, but don’t try to map your old skill onto the new one, that will never work… just create a new set of muscle memory based on the new inputs. Hope this helps

@@timerider5147 I had a similar device years ago, it's not noticable in terms of reaction speed once used to it (plus I play on console as well as PC so used to controllers as well) - its all about muscle memory and responding quickly - even a key has a degree of travel to it, it does also have the advantage that movement is analogue so your side movement speed can be varied, you can adjust speed of circle strafing much easier, move slower when peeking out of cover and perform a few other tricks when movement becomes analogue rather than digital. Plus using just your thumb for movement means your fingers are permanently on hotkeys rather than having to move them from the WASD keys to do other things (which can also be a hindrance if your suddenly need to dodge while your finger is over a hotkey rather than the movement keys), if the game has a lot of activated skills that can be a huge bonus - it has its moments with a few fps titles, but for MMO PvP its much more useful. At the end of the day though skills + situational awareness is more crucial than what you game with. Different people will get different mileage out of something like this.

It will definitely take some time to "re-learn" how to play, but it is infinity more comfortable. The software is very user friendly, and the discord is so helpful with any questions or issues that you may encounter. I come from console gaming to pc gaming a year ago.. Using a mouse to aim or look around is quite literally the best thing ever. Even if you've never used a mouse before, it still feels natural. But for the life of me I could not get used to using a full keyboard to move, coming from a controller my whole life, where you use one finger to move, to then having to use half of my hand felt like a step backwards. I started using a razer tartarus keypad and now I haven't looked back. It actually shocks a lot of pc veterans when I play competitive fps games and I tell them that I don't actually use WASD.. I feel like keyboards are more designed around typing than anything else, and have largely remained unchanged for at least 2 decades. Obviously if you're a pc gaming veteran, and all you've ever used is a keyboard, why would you change when you've become so used to something and it works well for you. But I think products like this are very clever and innovative, and perhaps a step in the right direction for more advanced gaming peripherals in the future
@tams8054 жыл бұрын
Gaming keyboards are still the norm because there's just so much massive inertia behind them. People just don't or even can't adapt to something new. And while it has been possible to produce something like this on a small scale profitably for about 15 years (see Belkin etc.), there just hasn't been much force behind it (see Logitech just giving up on the G13). Accessibility to market is much easier now though, through their being more gamers, gamers with more money (now heading well into their 40s+), and the Internet being so ubiquitous that you can sell something to anyone anywhere in the world and they'll get it with a couple of weeks max.

The analog issue with switching between left and right strafe is entirely mitigated (and might even be better) if you configure the analog stick to send WASDsignals based on very little travel from center. The spacebar issue reveals (and you admit) that you're a little stuck on stubborn. Space for jump is a highly useless control in a lot of games where you can jump. "Mashing it" is never functionally needed, and many times is often a multiplayer expression. I use a Glove80 split ergo keyboard which has a 6 key thumb cluster. For Call of Duty, I make spacebar the easiest thumb cluster key because jump is quite functional in Call of Duty. In FFXIV, jumping in actually hard fights is never a thing so I actually make spacebar the most difficult key to press in the cluster, and you know what? I can still press it when I need -- which is hardly ever. I never need to press that key in the fury of a fast rotation and intense battle. All that to say, the message of "you have to train yourself" really needs to be followed to completion. I get it though, reviews from a place that touches so many different tools and tech must catch on quickly and move on.

I consider this the best thing I got in 2019 I used tartarus/orbweavers for years for any game including FPS and I don't think I'll ever go back to them. Ofc this means I was already used to use my thumb for movement and keymapping. I can see the problem with changing directions and I felt the same. I'd suggest keeping a WASD profile and changing joystick sensitivity to some really high value, so that you can change direction by barely move your thumb. I did some light testing and with the right values it's faster for me than using the keyboard (but then again I am much more used to move with my thumb, so YMMV) I agree this is something that needs to get used to, expecially if you don't use controllers much. But at the same time, it's something that, once you get used to, it's, i'd say, strictly better: depending on the game you may get from no benefits to huge ones. If you only play FPS with no analog support and few keybinds, you can easily skip this. If you play a wide variety of games, it's really something I can't recommend enough. "you need to get used to it" it's something you really need to be aware before, but it should not be a factor in the decision in the long run. Bite the bullet. It'll take you a lot. Took me maybe a month of daily gaming back then. Totally worth it.

Harles Bently Seconding Steams Big Picture Mode. You can rebind any Controller to virtually anything, and adding profiling support to a specific game/software is as easy as adding it to your Steam library as “external game”. Have been using it to turn one of my wireless controllers into a PC remote so I don’t have to get up from my couch to navigate Netflix and stuff. You can also set up custom force feedback profiles, to make use of your own vibration feedback when pressing buttons and moving sticks. It completely blows any profiling software I‘ve seen so far out of the water. And Steam is stupidly hiding it in Big Picture Mode, but oh well.

I own 2. For me the Compact is a much better option as the front keys are much easier to reach quickly. I use it mainly for Destiny 2 and it is amazing! Definitely can't strafe as quick as a K&M but I much prefer it now I have muscle memory down and I am not playing fingers gymnastics like I was on a keyboard! You can set the range of the stick to reach maximum speed without having to physically move the stick to the boundaries..that is a mistake a lot of people initially make. The reason Assassins Creed only worked with one or the other is because some games don't allow an analog input and mouse input at the same time. Destiny 2 is another example. You need you use "keyboard" mode on the software instead of "analog" mode. It is completely down to the game maker to decide whether to implement functionality for both at the same time..unfortunately some don't and you are limited to a WASD type movement in certain games. Fortnite lets you use both and by the looks of it RDR2 & Witcher 3. Takes a while to develop muscle memory, but for me personally it is the best of both worlds and an absolute joy to use!

I have one of these and I love it. But at the same time, before I had one I used a Logitech G13 for a long time. So I was used to this style of control. I suggest if you are unsure how to map one of these, you use the "squeeze" buttons for the most used functions. Those are the buttons that press towards you. The most used button of all is space, and I have that mapped for my pointer finger. The next 3 I map to the most used buttons like reload, crouch and sprint. The buttons at the way top I like to use for Esc and I mapped the other top for a button combo of alt+esc for a fast game minimize to check on things in the background. It definitely takes getting used to for first timmers. But once you are, you'll wonder how you were ever able to play games without it. And using a normal keyboard will be what lesser people do. You know, the common folk.

I ordered one the day this video came out. it came less than a month later. They have updated their packaging and the firmware was already updated, as well the software has been improved. I have loved every second of using it. the analog joystick has been a game changer. So far, I haven't changed any keybinds in the games I play, but I put the normal keybinds that are used in a majority of games that use kb+m to comfortable locations on the pad; admittedly I use my pinky a lot. The games I've used it with have been Halo:MCC, FFXIV, Surviving mars, CS:GO (anecdotally I think I've gotten better, but I admit I'm a terrible player at it), Apex Legend, Dark Souls 3, RE2r and 3r, as well as, some dabbling with emulators in retroarch. Thank you for this video, I have found my favorite pc gaming peripheral that happily compliments my razer naga (atleast until a similar mouse is made with a vertical mouse form factor).

With 8 buttons you can create 256 characters directly. Of course, trying to press arbitrary combinations of 8 buttons with one hand is tricky. As anyone who has experience with consoles knows, most high level gamers train themselves to play with the look sensitivity high as heck to get the most movement with the least movement. Simply adjust the sensitivity, or dead zones, of the analog to require less movement and avoid pressing the joystick all the way to one side. Takes getting used to but it's worth it.

I had a Logitech Keypad with a none-analog stick on it. I used it mostly for WoW. I really liked it, but you are right that the stick travel time really slows down back any forth motion making fast games a pain. A possible solution here might be to greatly increase the sensitivity on the joystick, so that it does not need to be moved much to reach max input. A physical guide that you could put on the device to limit the movement on the stick would help with that too.
