The V-MODA BoomPro gaming microphone is a perfect, inexpensive competitor to the Modmic series but it does have some serious limitations.

One big disadvantage that on the V-Moda is that you make it share a ground. So, if you want to connect your headphones to a external DAC/Amp and your mic to a mic input, you will get a buzz. A separated cable with its own ground, like on the ModMic avoid this issues.

I bought the mic a few months ago and used it with my Vmoda M-100s that I've had for 6 months to a year . The mic is alright if you're on a budget. I ran into issues with it. I had similar issues with audio going to my headphones bleeding into the microphone. I had issues with static from the cord causing noise to be made and transmitted into the microphone. I just thought the execution of this microphone was meh. Sort of an afterthought from Vmoda. I eventually bought the Sennheiser GSP 302 off Amazon and haven't looked back. Quality across the board was spot on. I still use my Vmoda's for video editing and use away from my PC, but the GSP 302 is my daily driver for gaming and streaming on my PC. One tip I can offer to those considering buying this, if you have an old Xbox 360 headset laying around, use the foam bit on the end of the microphone. I did that and it helped negate some of the popping when I say certain words.

@@shadowarmor5100 I tried both the front audio ports and the rear ports for my motherboard. Both had the same static issue. Mic bleed still occurred on both front and back as well. But the mic bleed did not occur on the back using the Sennheisers, which means something is up with microphone as well.

My Config: Sony WH-1000XM5 + V-Moda BoomPro (~30 Euro) + Sharkoon Gaming DAC Pro S V2 (~30 Euro). No noise, crystal clear voice (thanks to the BoomPro mic) and extremely nice sound while gaming. I asked about 10x people on Discord how I sound: 9/10 points. Tip: Make sure to deactivate the "Speak-To-Chat" setting in Sony's Headphones app, otherwise the gaming sound will not be received. I also activated the ambient noise mode and set it to 15 so that I can hear my own voice clearly when I speak. I have never been as satisfied with online gaming than these days. You can actually use the BoomPro with headphones like the Audio-Technica M50x which uses a special 2.5mm jack. Just buy a small 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter. I had to remove the Audio-Technica cable lock, but it was very easy, just a few screws and the lock itself was a simple plastic piece which can be easily removed. You can't really mess things up, unless you manage to rip off the thin cables!

The MH751 sounds nearly the same, they bumped up the bass slightly, it's still less bass then the first tick in the pro 82 bass port though. The treble is also ever so slightly tamed. Mid range is the same.

I bought this for my Philips Fidelio X2 but I had an issue with it: i had my headphones connected to an amp and it made so much noise when I used the mic, probably because of the use of a single cable both for sound input and output. @GandalfTheSilver 4 жыл бұрын
Ignore Dave's remark. Hearing the difference could come down to whatever audio output you use. If you're listening on earbuds or TV speakers, the difference might not be detectable at all. ModMic 5.0 was flawless, I couldn't detect any vocal artifacts. The Vmoda had some artifacts that prevented it from sounding totally natural and true, but overall, the vocal quality was detailed and clear. At a mere $30, the Vmoda has incredible value. For professional use where vocal quality must be as natural as possible, ModMic 5.0 is better. For gaming and general use, the Vmoda is totally sufficient and a much more reasonable option. If you get a pop filter on the Vmoda, all the better.

It is inextricably obvious in my comment that I was comparing their different sound signatures. If your dishonest interpretation of my comment is due to defensiveness, then I suspect that you blew your money on a ModMic, and now you're trying validate your excessive spending on something that is only minimally improved over reasonably-priced alternatives by trying to argue that the difference is larger than what it actually is.

I use a VMODA BoomPro on a Audio Technica ATH-M50 with detachable cable mod for a year. Best option so far. Only drawback, it's an omni-directional mic (which means it's going to take the sounds from every direction, not just your mouth). The volume control on the cable also got some bad contacts over time but nothing that makes it unusable at all. Not the greatest piece of hardware but for 30 bucks, it gets the job done, it sounds great and you don't have any additional cable like with the modmic. Would probably buy it again in the future. Another similar alternative would be the BeyerDynamic Custom Headset Gear which costs around 50 bucks.

Are you using an independent sound card or USB adapter? I just received the Boom Pro this weekend and the mic is picking up background interference when I speak, no where near the quality of sound displayed in this video. I have it plugged directly into my mobo so I think it might be a ground loop issue.

You can modify the M50 and add a 2.5mm (male) to 3.5 mm (female) adapter and use the boom pro. That's what I did and it's worked out pretty well. However, if you try this, there's a little notch on the inside of the hole on the m50's which is used for locking the proprietary 2.5mm connector into the headphones. I think the safest way of doing this is opening up that side of the headphones and unscrewing and removing the audiojack/circuit board into which the cable connector goes. After this is out of the way (and safe from being broken) you should be able to use a drill or sharp tool to take out the notch inside. Definitely remove the internals before hand though, because I didn't and drilled too far. So, I ended up breaking the internal audio connector/board and I had to solder everything manually. Also, make sure you find an adapter which fits in the m50's, some might be too big around.

Yep been using the V-MODA BoomPro mic for a couple of years now with my Beyerdynamic Custom one Pro. I mainly use them to Skype with my friends and Family, since I mainly work overseas. It is truly the best value for quality in a mic I have been able to find. None of that thin nasally sound you get from normal "gaming" headphone mics. It actually has a really nice full range to it, without going too deep. Which I think that many larger mics and even the ModMic 5 goes too deep. With my voice it creates a little too much "boom" and causes a lot of clipping. The price and performance of the V-MODA BoomPro Mic makes it a no brainier, IF you have a pair of headphones that can work with them. I have used the V-MODA mic with Beyerdynamic Custom one Pro, Fostex T50RP, and a modded Samson SR850 (bought on Massdrop for $20 and a 3.5 jack for $0.50 off of Digikey.. modded them to take the V-MODA mic).
