I work by myself. I'm a plumber. Good help is hard to find. And I hate being a boss. Been this way a lot if years and now I'm close to retiring (ha) so, no need to change now. I like what I do.

Same here, I didn’t enjoy managing a crew…and I hope to be able to retire someday before my body completely quits on me!

Should you show in more depth of the gable end when you cut the 2x4's more as of angles etc..

I tell you what man, you impress the hell outta me. I watch tons of carpentry videos on youtube and i think your one of the better guys hands down. I'm always learning, and always wanting to learn, if i was to give advice I would say make it as informative as possible but also keep it raw and show the real days work, soo basically exactly what you've been doing! Shout out from Maine!

I enjoy and have learned. When cutting your end gable boards. Do you cut the top to follow the roof pitch or just a straight cut on both ends?
@MyDIYAdventures Жыл бұрын
They’re beveled to the roof degree.

I may have already asked you this but how long should it take two guys to build this garage? I'm being quoted 5 weeks.
@MyDIYAdventures Жыл бұрын
5 weeks from breaking ground to final occupancy permit doesn’t sound unreasonable.

I framed my own garage, exactly like this and the inspector did Not allow it. Im also in California where if your a homeless bum your free to build anything on a sidewalk.
@MyDIYAdventures Жыл бұрын
Maybe you should have built your garage on the sidewalk!
@alfredovargas616 Жыл бұрын
😆 I really should have. I'm taking apart, because he's asking for engineering plans, and for me to cut my slab up for inspection.

@@chiwy909 Sure I get the Commifornia label . But in Texas the Developers/ Contractors are Building Houses as Crappy as they can get away with and that’s not Good for the Home Buyer. Lol.

@@alfredovargas616 Sorry to hear that. However when someone takes the stance that it’s easier to ask for Forgiveness than to ask for Permission. You always want to Document and take lots of pictures especially when pouring concrete. Lol.

For a 16ft wide door, how long should your header be? I'm planning on building a garage through menards and the are sending a 17ft long lvl header. Can i cut the header down to 16ft 6" if needed?
@MyDIYAdventures Жыл бұрын
With jack studs and 1 1/2” trim, overhead door headers come to 16’9”

I know on this particular job, using trusses probably wouldn’t be feasible because of space, but is hand framing cheaper for you? I would think using trusses would save some time? Or is it pretty much a wash?
@MyDIYAdventures Жыл бұрын
It’s pretty much a wash, and honestly, I can throw the rafters up quicker.
