Let me introduce you to Twins, a demon that is a giant spider with a head and torso of a creepy baby doll. It turns out there's way more to making a boss fight scene that I had anticipated. In this video I break down the scene and the character. I needed to revert to Godot 4 alpha to record this... Godot 4 Beta 1, bar all of its hype, has a bug in GPU particles with makes it unusable. Hopefully they fix it soon.

The Twins look really creepy and I especially like the "hiss" you've added. Also, Miziziziz has a video on procedural spider leg animation for Godot (it's in 2D tho), for anyone who wants to try giving procedural animations a try.

Looking good so far! 2 ideas; - To emphasize scale add dirt puffs when the legs hit the ground, that also makes it more grounded. Effects are jank so I guess not todo soon. - For the ammo thing, have corpses/debris littered around the area and maybe tie some of those objects to the legs that you can shoot off and collect?

I think it would be a good tweak to make the spider legs step less often, maybe by only stepping when the new footfall will be far enough away from the old location. Or maybe a step cooldown? It looks a little tapdancy at the moment, not as weighty as it could.

Maybe make Twins eyes glow in the mist, so it would be easier to spot them form a far. As form ammo, why not make Twins spawn little spiders, that explode near player and they leave goo that can be used as ammo( player gun can be bioengineered weapon? )

Awesome video! The Twins look super awesome. Their animation and attack style fit perfectly for a boss of that type. The hiss it gives from the distance is spot on and gives a really scary and creepy vibe to it. Really like the procedural animation to the legs and it makes the boss look more natural and scary. Is it possible to dodge the attack of the boss? In the vid it seems every attack of the boss gets hit. Maybe allowing the player to able to dodge the attack may make the boss battle a bit more fun. Just sharing an idea. :) Awesome video, awesome progress and looking forward to your next devlog. Keep it up! :)

The pure red eyes don't look scary enough tbh, maybe make them like open wounds? It'd also be scarier if the faces were animated in combat, and the little body moved and reacted too. Also please add a jetpack!

For that procedural creature.. Y'all can follow polyjford on KZbin for the blender tutorial... He'll teach you how to make the creature within blender without any add-ons or plugins.. It's clean and simple..

Having an ammo crates could also serve a second purpose: as improvised explosives. Were you to shoot the ammo crates on the spider, they would explode, stunning it for a brief moment at the cost of not replenishing your ammo. Then again, would that be an exception to the game's normal rules, or can every ammo crate be blown up? Also, adding a spinning up sound effect (and animation) to the minigun as you aproach the spider approaches could also help emphasize to the player the danger they are apporaching.

How was you conversion of the code from alpha to beta 1. I had to swap out all my preloads to be loads. But its temporary for now.
