CORRECTION: I misread the unemployment chart (went back more than 12 months.) Unemployment low was not 3.4% in the last 12 months it was 3.5%. So delta is now .5% NOT .6%, Sahm rule will still be triggered if we have a few more months at or above 4%. Thx for watching!

The ongoing banking crisis is far from reaching a resolution. Those with more than a decade of experience understand that credit crises do not dissipate within a mere two weeks. It's amusing to witness some people believing that everything has already concluded so swiftly. We are currently witnessing a credit contraction that will inevitably result in a substantial overall contraction.

Over the years, I have learnt not to trust corporations. I was badly hit by the '08 financial crisis. This bank crisis is so far from being over. Anyone who has been around for longer than 12 years, knows a credit crisis isn't over in two weeks. Makes me laugh seeing folks thinking this was all over so quickly. We are seeing a credit contraction that is gonna lead to a major contraction.

In my opinion, some of these banks were attempting to restructure their bond portfolio, which involved selling their low-yielding bonds despite the potential loss, and compensating for it by buying higher-interest-rate bonds on the open market.

Bank failures are likely to continue increasing due to rising interest rates, as it causes their commercial paper and treasuries to become devalued. To prevent a severe economic downturn, it is necessary to implement a freeze on interest rates. Simultaneously, the White House should support the industry in boosting gas and oil production to lower fuel prices. The anti-oil stance only contributes to higher energy costs, leading to inflation throughout the economy. By reducing interest rates, tightening the money supply, cutting government expenditures, and increasing the availability of affordable fuel, inflation will decrease, and the economy will thrive. Unfortunately, various conflicting agendas make it unlikely for all these measures to be implemented, resulting in a recession and persistent inflation.

In light of the ongoing global economic crisis, it is crucial for everyone to prioritize investing in diverse sources of income that are not reliant on the government. This includes exploring opportunities in stocks, gold, silver, and digital currencies. Despite the challenging economic situation, it remains a favorable time to consider these investments.

Putting well-earned money into the stock market can be over emphasized for first-time investors, unlike a bank where interest is sure thing! Yeah, financial advisors could make a lot of difference, particularly in a market such as this. Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. Bloomberg and other finance media have been recording cases of folks gaining over 250k just in a matter of weeks/couple months, so I think there are a lot of wealth transfer in this downtime if you know where to look. I have been using an FA since 2019, and I return at least $121k ROI, and this does not include capital gain.

It was a very bad decision to remove the Glass-Steagall Act in the late 1990s, which led to the spectacular failure of huge banks during the financial crisis of 2007-2008. To prevent another disaster, Dodd-Frank and this statute both need to be reestablished right away. What happened with these banks is only the beginning of what will happen if nothing is done to address the current situation.

Thank you for providing high-quality programming. Your description of the current situation, with investors fleeing to the safety of the US stock market and dollar to prevent a crash, is accurate. However, this "melt UP" phase will eventually end, and the global economy will crash, causing US markets to crash even harder due to the high levels of debt. This will be followed by a "Default Phase" with many massive bankruptcies, and finally "Asset Seizures," where banks and the government will declare a national emergency to justify debiting people's accounts. The legislation for such actions is already in place. My advice to those feeling the heat of inflation is to trade long-term more than ever. < I've made over 750k from day trading with Whitney Eston in just a few weeks. The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) every four to six weeks has a meeting of the top governors of the banks, and they meet in absolute secrecy. And they have the big banking families and so forth, they all meet up. The 'minutes' are never made available and they decide on the money creation and the money supply of the world. George, the reason I subscribe is that you are a great communicator. You have explained the relationship and systemic risk many times in the past. I got out of the market after the GFC and have never returned to play in the debt game. This system of global economic debt creation is wrong. The distortions you mention are always present and continuously playing in good times and bad. We need a new economic system that is NOT based on debt creation for every product and service. A commonwealth system that keeps government banking separate from private banking and private banking divided into commercial and investment institutions. Glass-Steagall Act of 1932.

3:10 A Treasury is NOT a “low risk asset.” Governments change rules at whim and you have no recourse. Risk is too high of major loss from inflation or total loss from default. Treasuries are far from safe. Just ask Russia and all of the currently struggling banks that stuffed their portfolios with them. A sovereign bond is an exchange of current issue “IOU nothings” for a promise of future issuance of “IOU nothings” (with reduced purchasing power, even after yield is considered) from a bankrupt corporation. If that’s not bad enough, your Treasury holdings can effectively be defaulted on if you fall out of favor by the regime and Uncle Sam slams you with sanctions or if a social credit scheme deems that you are naughty. Now is the time to reduce as much counter-party risk as possible and be a contrarian, not try to pick up dimes in front of a steamroller.

George's play by play is correct but even he does not see the full scale implications of this because he doesn't believe the dollar can or will die. Norinchikin has just (most likely at the behest or insistence of the BOJ) instigated a credible threat to catalyze a sovereign default cascade in US treasuries. They have just called the Treasury's bluff earlier this year where the guaranteed to buy any treasury bonds on the market (buyer of last resort, another credible threat). The BOJ desperately needs the FED to drop its overnight rate FAST because the BOJ is out of cash and can no longer stop the fall of the YEN without selling off treasuries; they need the spread between YEN and USD to shrink to disrupt the carry trade killing the Yen. If the USD/YEN breaks through 160 there is nothing stopping it from hyperinflationary death spiral. The BOJ will be forced into either treasury sell off; instigating a crisis in the global debt market, or an emergency interest rate hike which will depreciate the YEN further since it is a complete debt instrument back by almost 60% of the JGB market. This is not just the Big Short 2.0. This is the end of life stages of the Federal Reserve Monetary System. The entire global credit market is convulsing its final seizures before death. Japan is the nexus of the entire system established post 1946. The Prince of The Yen is coming home to roost.

The entire problem we face today exposes the primary futility of Keynesian economics. Everything is fine with deficit spending when that spending is "productive," i.e., produces more growth than the cost of the debt that produces it. That's why the Fed's single mandate (forget the "dual" one) is to "fine tune" the economy, i.e., funnel liquidity to the areas in the economy that will produce net growth. Sure it wants low unemployment and low inflation, but when we become totally dependent on debt, becoming a "debt-based" economy, then slowdowns in "growth" aren't just worrying, but disastrous, and both parts of the dual mandate are abandoned in order to, simply, survive.

So just when you thought inflation was high, it's gonna get EVEN HIGHER. Considering the track record and the consistency of employing this "solution", I buy it. It's like they say about the politicians in power, and I'm paraphrasing here, they'll do whatever the have to do to keep themselves in control. In other words, "it's difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on it." --Upton Sinclair. It's a bit of a stretch, but consider "understanding" in this case the ignorance to the simplified chain of lending as demonstrated in step 2. I'm still working on my theory of all this, but snips like this help flesh things out. Good video, George. Thanks.

Really, banks require more regulation. The entire idea of banking as "let's gamble" is terrifying. Because they discovered in 2008 that the government will always bail them out, there are no repercussions. These bank crisis are so worrisome. This whole financial crisis and the Great Recession posed the most significant macroeconomic challenges for the United States in a half-century, leaving behind high unemployment and below-target inflation and calling for highly accommodative monetary policies. And this is only the beginning!

Is it true that Norinchukin borrowed in $? Have you reviewed their balance sheet - I haven't but why would a Japanese bank borrow US $? It's a Japanese bank taking yen deposits and borrowing in Yen, and buying dollars and using those to buy US fixed income assets. So, no, there is no negative carry. The market price of those FI assets has dropped a lot due to their high duration. That is their problem, not a funding vs. earning mismatch. They will sell and take a big loss ($10bn?), chump change on a $tr balance sheet, it's not going to take them out. The yield on the portfolio is low, so they need to sell the impaired assets, take the loss, and re-invest them in higher yielding asets. Of course, that reach for yield increases their risk. However, if you listen to Gundlach, he maintains that, currently, BB and above CLOs and corporate FI are currently a good risk with very little default risk (I don't know if that's true, but I would bet on Gundlach before almost anyone else).
