Avi, the first bass singer, decided to leave the group about 6 years ago because of the hectic tour schedule and family matters and was replaced by Matt Sallee who is an wonderful replacement. Matt studied music, particularly acapella and was very well suited to fit in - And yes, their stylist is always on point.

Avi also played a role in choosing Matt to replace him. The group met Matt at an Acapella camp years back, and Matt has said he considered himself a Pentaholic long before being brought into the group

@@KevinHarrington1979, sorry ...but that's not true. Matt entered a contest for the part and won. By the time he was set to actually join the group, Matt had learned EVERY bassline for all the songs PTX had done. He's a great fit with his joyous nature. He and Kirstie frequently join together and prank staff and members.

In a recent live video interview, Matt stated that he did meet with Avi & spent quite a bit of time with him, asking questions & getting valuable advice. He said Avi didn't have to do that and was totally gracious. So, while Avi didn't assist in choosing Matt, he did spend time with Matt & gave him thumbs up.

The Five Faces of New Pentaholics 1. The most common is the Mitch Slapped. Commonly found when Mitch is heard for the first time in Hallelujah, The Prayer, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Creep and doing Aha! at the Star Vista. 2. The Wide Eyed Look of Disbelief. Normally found when you hear their Wall of Sound. Found when listening to Mary Did You Know, Imagine, Amazing Grace, The Prayer and Mad World. 3. The I Didn’t Want It to End face. Most commonly found after listening to the 90s Dance Medley. It can also be found after listening to all their medleys and evolutions. 4. The Teary Eyed Look. This is commonly found when listening to an emotional song of theirs or just the sheer beauty of their work. Commonly found when listening to Mary Did You Know, Hallelujah, Amazing Grace, Imagine, The Prayer, Prayers for This World and most especially Thank You. 5. The What Did I Just Hear Face. Happens when Pentatonix starts strong, or when you hear a really special note or Kevin sound. Is usually accompanied by rewinding the video or song to make sure your ears really heard what they heard. Those times are too many to list, but the most common rewind at the start moment is the beginning of Sound of Silence.
@heinleinreader

Another major rewind example of number 5 is when they do the instruments with their voices in Bohemian Rhapsody.

“You’ve probably have heard this like 5 times.” Pentaholics: More like 100 times. Fun fact: Kirstin’s fiancé directed that music video. Looking at your other reactions. Scott did a Black Pick dance medley at his wedding this summer as his husband Mark loves them. PTX also have a Perfume medley where the sing in Japanese.

I like in The Prayer where Mitch and Kirstie are having one of those contests where they are basically doing a bit with "Any note you can sing, I can Sing Higher. No, you can't. Yes, I can. No, you can't, no you can't, no you can't," and they keep going up and up and up.

What Kirstin is doing when you talked about "screaming, projecting" is known as "belting", and she is VERY good at it - it's something she's well known for. To hear some other examples of it, try Amazing Grace or Say Something. Other recommendations: Come Along if you're in the mood for something lighthearted and whimsical, Say Something (again!) if you're in the mood for something that will really give you the feels, Problem to hear another version of a Mitch-slap, Sing to hear Scott just let loose and do his own belting (as well as see a number of social media personalities in cameos).

Thanks for the Matt appreciation. Avi, the original bass, left in 2017 for personal reasons but finished the tour commitments they had for the 2016-17 World Tour and the group did special appreciations at the end of the last few tour concerts. The other members were devastated but after some debate, and doing some videos with only four members, they auditioned for a new bass. Matt did some recordings and the 2017 Christmas tour as a guest, but fit in so well he became an official member.

I don't try to pick a favorite. I have several in different genres. Sounds of Silence is their best for musically powerful. Imagine has the greatest social impact. Hallelujah is gorgeous and my first intro to PTX so it will always hold my heart. Aha (the Singapore live version) is the greatest example of both Mitch's and Avi's ranges - at opposite ends of the spectrum. The Grinch is my favorite funny video. Sing Off #12 - The Dog Days Are Over - is my favorite Babytonix. Mary Did You Know is my favorite Christmas and The Prayer is the most stunningly beautiful - both musically and visually. Daft Punk Medley is the most inventive and Bohemian Rhapsody is the most audacious and best executed upgrade.

Heard this 5 times??? LOL Most of the Pentaholics here have heard it at least 20 or 30. Many have heard it more. We look for reactors that haven't heard it before. I personally go back to the "clean" official version occasionally. This is a classic in more ways than one. PTX does so many great songs that it's difficult to say which are "the best." The reason *I* consider it one of MY favs is that I go back to the official version a couple times a month. My other theory is that my favorite PTX song is the one I'm listening to when you ask. Great reaction! I'm glad to see that PTX keeps you coming back. Lots of other excellent a cappella out there as well!

This was Matt Sallee's first video as a full member of PTX. He toured with them during the Christmas season before this video was released. Matt is not Avi, but his is great in his own way. I love the wardrobe on this one. Another where their wardrobe is really cool is Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King (by Elton John). They each represent one of the characters from the movie. Great song, beautiful arrangement, and perfect example of their "wall of sound." When Kirsten passes the solo off to Mitch, it is really hard to catch the transition as they sound so much alike.

What Kirsten does is not properly a scream. It is called belting. She is the member most likely to belt. Scott would be next most likely followed by Mitch. Then there are instances where they do a group belt. Everyone joins in the belted phrase. I believe in their version of The Prayer, you will find a good example of a group belt from these wonderful singers. You can find on KZbin what belting is. It is a commonplace musical technique on the musical stage. Check it out.

Avi's replacement is Matt Sallee (pronounced Suh-lee', emphasis on the second syllable), lyric bass. It's hard to be sure just what Matt's range is, because it's still growing. To find his current range I recommend listening to a live stream of "Hallelujah" from their recent world tour: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4S8q3-lnp1kZs0 Matt's arrangement of the second verse seems to be designed to show off his full range, and it will blow you away. I don't believe he's at the basso profundo level yet, though I expect him to reach it within a year or two. On the high end he's very close to the top of a normal tenor range. I think he actually has the largest range of any member of Pentatonix, past or present. And for a HUGE bass drop, watch this short: kzbin.infoEm-QcqaEan8?si=7WbdGYJLpMnV9rHh

I absolutely HATE that this happened to you!!! Unfortunately, there seems to be some sort of disconnect in America when it comes to protecting people from stalkers. And it’s unconscionable that it so often ends with the target or victim suffering serious harm or distress before anything “might” be done about it. I am happy that you are now surrounded by people that love and support you. And I truly hope the woman responsible for these horrible things is held accountable for them. Here’s also hoping we hear more from you in the future. Take care and know that many people outside your immediate circle care about and respect you.
