I struggle with any ball when the sun is very low in the sky as the reflection off damp grass hides the ball. But I generally find: - white ball means the ground will be frosty or there will be daisies. Also hard to see against a cloudy sky - yellow ball will land in the leaves or dandelions - orange always hides in the leaves Landing on the fairway may help but I haven’t had chance to test that! 😉

High handicapper here - so am often looking for my golf balls in winter ! ( and summer)! My option is a bright red - got a few red Bridgestone balls and I still have most of them - for me that's great ! Surprising fact Bright Green is good as well - colourful leaf litter is a major problem ! The Bridgestone is expensive - maybe a cheaper Red or Bright Green might be the best ! I swing easy in winter and soon will be trying out my new fairway mat - should be fun !
@garymartingolf3 күн бұрын
I think you’re the only person so far that finds bright red the easiest to see like me 😅 The green was in close second. Swinging easier is good practice, I suppose for a high handicapper, it’s not how good and long you can hit it, it’s trying to keep the same ball to shoot as low as possible.

Here in South Dakota, with all of the leaves and dormant grass in the fall and winter, the red balls are almost impossible to find. They are also tough to follow in flight. The vibrant yellow/green ones seem to be the easiest to find.
@dpeters9553 күн бұрын
A few years ago, a Golf Magazine (can't remember which one) did a visibility study of different color balls at 150 yards distance. Here is the rating: 1) Yellow 2) Green 3) White 4) Orange 5) Red 6) Blue I prefer yellow myself. And, I guess you sure wouldn't want to use Red or Green if you are color blind either.
@carlr2837Күн бұрын
The point of this video is that what is visible in summer, when grass is green, is not necessarily visible in winter conditions. Dark colors are also easier to see the flight of against a cloudy sky. I play white or green most of the year, but last year played the Vice orange shade in winter conditions, and almost always found them.

Things to note: 1. The Human eye is best designed to see many shades of green. 2. I've tried a UV torch and it makes the ball stand out more but not all balls fluoresce equally brightly so test the ball before. 3. The main reason I lose balls is they're hidden by grass, leaves, etc so it helps to look in different directions to where the ball fell. 4. A camera is sensitive to different colours than the eye - so you could try using your phone to look at an area esp. while using the UV torch.

Hi Gary, We play at twilight, and to make matters worse, I have the early onset of cataracts. When playing on overcast dull winter's days, I use a pair of night time anti-glare driving glasses, with the bright yellow lenses, for tracking my ball mid-flight. These are readily available for less than £10.00 at most commercial petrol filling stations. Some years ago, my golfing partner purchased a pair glasses that were specifically designed for golfers to enable them to search for golf balls in the rough. Believe or not, they were like a welders safety goggles with dark blue/ black lenses - the opposite of my night driving yellow glasses. They were designed to be worn only when searching for the ball and only worked with white balls which he assures me, really did stand out from the grass which appeared to be black! I cannot remember him ever using them o a regular basis, however. I like the Wilson Staff balls because they have a very soft coating on them and come in a wide range of colours. The red stands out in the sky which is probably the most important factor, not their visibility under leaves. Although, funnily enough, we once found 5 of these red balls, in relatively short grass, on 3 consecutive holes ! Most strange. Kind regards, Dave Richards

As a partially sighted player I find the bright orange are essential at most times of year. Apart from autumn when leaves can be an issue. I mainly use Wilson staff duo. The lime green volvik also works well for me. Red is an absolute nightmare and, if I'm feeling flush, the srixon divide in orange and yellow are good. Oddly, pink works very well if I find one.

I only play yellow in the winter, bright, semi-matted yellow. For me, they're quite visible on the ground, even among leaves, but they're also very visible in the air (that's the most important for me). The worse balls for me are the red and pink, followed by orange, as they tend to "vanish" mid air after 150 yards and are both "impossible to miss" once you see them AND very hard to see when you're still looking for them. Best thing in winter, still, is to hit a bit less and keep going "fairways and greens" as much as possible...

Over time slits become difficult to get a tee in that's vertically straight, I wonder if that adversely affects spin on the ball. You might need a gadget to put the tee into to test indoors. E.g. use a shorter tee say in a lump of plasticine or similar. Or you could get Dan or Sam to lay down and hold it, like in rugby etc 😂😂
