We were the owners of Mildred before Frank bought it from us. She had been off the road for years so was covered in mildew and had been red, so I christened her Mildred! It is great to see all the stickers still on her, she was quite a character around the Lincolnshire Land Rover trialling scene especially as we never won anything…

A shame the media seeded a rift between Fred and his wife. Take a look at the old "documentaries" about Fred uploaded here on KZbin, the commenters there who actually knew the Dibnah's said she and everyone else was fine with his steam obsession and old school life-style until the ones making the documentaries walked up to her and went "hey you know this isnt normal, right?" just to make her think about outward appearances and react more dramatically when, at the time, he was making room on his property for another project, effectively destroying the family (she divorced him). He limited his exposure to media from then on.

Now he lives in a small barn were he takes his master where-ever and when-ever he wants; Sometimes he get's abit to exited and tries to go as fast as he can( to his master displeasure),but at most times he means well,he takes the master's children and wife to lots of places, and to rally's so he can be displayed; But sometimes,he does miss the old days when he was a on The Mid Sodor,he remembers Duke with his advices, and Young Falcon that he used to work with; some times he regrets his decisions, but he knows that what happend had to happend and If he wasn't turned in to a pumping engine he would'ev never be back on his home country; But now he's happy that he got the chance to be really useful again.

Thank you for this superbly produced video - it's so humbling to see such selfless spirit and youthfulness in a man of his age. His disposition reminds me of my beautiful Uncle Arthur - may he rest in peace. As I understand he was the first machinist working for Qantas many years ago and in his retirement turned his hand to making all manner of intricate and beautiful things, especially in the area of steam power. My Dad is the same as the fixer of all things after many years as a mechanic. Big warm thank you from Sydney, Aust - Dave

"It's this templery road legal?" "Oh, yeah!" (I think they said, it's not my vernacular language) Very, very few countries arond worldwide take life on this sense of humour and vitality to give permission to do things like this, legaly, and keep people's happy and healthy remind old steam engines to keep mental brains right by fun's way.* (*If you do something like this in Spain... No.. No one... Authority, lacking knowledge or awareness in general, will give you legal permission)

@@edwardfletcher7790 The thing is, the laws governing steam powered vehicles haven't really been updated since the 1920's, because nobody has been building steam powered vehicles in the last 100 years, the odd mad inventor excepted. There are modern generic laws about boiler proofing I think, to stop people being killed by high pressure steam explosions, but everything else is written in parchment with a quill pen...
