@@simeonandalex yes we live in Western Washington. Our new propeety is in the foothills of the cascades. We have a lake across the street though. That we have access via a cabin our family owns. Plus, the lakes and rivers near by. So I think he will be ok. But it would be that much easier to just walk out our back door. 🙂 His idea of heaven.

That is tough. I know what that is like. I am sorry. BUT, don't give up. We have personally struggled through many years of not having our own land and we still don't, but we are getting there slowly. We have made the biggest steps towards our dream since we have made decisions holistically.

I’m in east tn. Do know it gets pretty hot here in summer, so be prepared to keep your trout cool, or the water may get too warm for them. We also have many predators that may raid your ponds. Both from land and air. I am mostly Swede, but American, hence my tuning in. Good luck to you😊

The trout we have here are called brown trout, I prefer them to rainbow as that can sometimes taste a little earthy, whereas the brown trout are lovely. I do enjoy watching the fish in the streams, very relaxing. Never heard of grass eating carp - how fascinating! Super to see Isaac enjoying his work and helping you. I do hope you get your own farm soon. Thank you so much.

In East Tennessee depending on elevation you can have trout ponds either rainbow or the native brook trout (actually a char) if you are at higher elevation, if you are at lower elevation typically your pond will be a mix of bluegill, largemouth bass and channel catfish, the catfish will be what you can sell. Elevation will determine the best cattle breed as well, highlands are very common in Appalachia at higher elevation.

So many parents will not take time working with their children because it takes so much time and quicker to do it themselves. Cool farm, nice spring water. Yes there’s little feed available in there. If I owed it, I would use 80-90% high quality conventional feed than supplement with worms and minnows I produced myself, Then fast the fish 3-5 days before harvesting a few, it clears all the toxins and makes them taste great. I have access to lots of water and also the infrastructure (pipelines, drains, a big concrete building, also live in mountainous region where trout is naturally present, etc) for such an enterprise. We keep plants in our ponds, which helps the fish. We started with just comets and a couple of koi. The wild birds have brought us sun fish. They have been growing for a few years now, haven’t tried to catch any to eat. The sunfish keep the comets from over populating the ponds.

Maybe some ideas for the trout farm? 1. Feed the trout insects/bugs! Possobly a cheaper and more natural diet for the fish. 2. More current in the pond! Maybe some underwater jets that increase the current and water movement may lead to healthy trout.

I found that extremely interesting and very innovative design. I don't feel they looked overly over stocked and water clarity in the last pond is a prime indication I feel. But I also understand where you are coming from with the points you raise. Not sure I agree totally, but I understand. Does the water from last pond drain into another pond or an aquaponic system? I tried raising fish for two years in my dugout (man made pond), but determined that the fluctuating water and oxygen levels were prohibitive to success because of grasses and the lack of air movement because of the trees. I was not prepared to do the development necessary. Especially living in the land of many lakes. Interesting video. Your son definitely likes doing it.

In the 🇺🇸 grass carp are mainly used to control weeds in ponds. In most states you need a permit to stock them and they are sterilized fish. They do not want them in trout streams. I have a 1/4 acre bass and bluegill pond 5-15ft deep in N.Y. allowed 3. Have to wait 2 yrs to apply for more if needed or wanted. Blue herons are a problem, carry grubs that infect fish besides killing bass too big to swallow.

Too many fish leads to abundance of fish poop leads to fish disease. The piped in pressurized water isnt helping matters other than oxygen which probably isnt truly enough for that number of fish. Vortexing the water would bring the water back to a bit more natural state. Schauberger had a vortex container that would spin water contaminants out to the side and be taken off in a separate tube. Just armchair observations, im sure things are different on the ground. Glad to see you back in action.

The fish should be fine being packed into smaller ponds like that. That is if that is fresh spring water. If that is recirculating water then they would be overstocked but i think they are ok. The fish themselves usually prefer to be in tight groups as they feel safer.

Hey Simeon,what is your oldest son's name? We have lots of Ponds that Folks fill with Stock but... A lot get eaten by Otters or Fished out! The small Trout are call Brookies, Native Brook Trout The Salmon come to Spawn and Die their spawn swims to the Ocean and back to Spawn. I hope this helps. That is one of the issues when they are overstocked. It should get used by plants and other life and the water regenerate down stream. In this case it is minimized by feeding very little

In the USA you must treat the waste water from your farm, especially if it feeds into a trout stream. This is a blessing in disguise as the nutrients can be used to grow more food for your trout. Good luck in your endeavors
