I just wanted to compliment your incredible attention to detail in your editing and production. I don't think people realize how much you do behind the scenes to show you exciting one room and entering another room for example. It's like watching a TV show on TV because you work really hard behind the scenes. Kudos to your hard work! Oh and your content is great as well, I can see why so many people enjoy your channel and it's growing so fast.

Agree 100%! I have a channel (albeit “ small”) and I applaud myself for just remembering to turn my microphone on after I’m done! 😄. It’s SO much more exhausting than it appears. She does a fabulous job here. From placing that camera IN the shed to, in the past, placing the camera where it shows her driving away when she and her mom went to an event and stayed in an Airbnb. I’m afraid I might just keep driving. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Absolutely love the entire idea of Spring. For those of us who go through the seasons we tend to really appreciate seeing new life. The trees getting new leaves, all of the Spring flowers popping out of the ground, the grass turning green. The older I get the more I truly appreciate Spring & all it opens up & offers. Excited to see how everything goes with the 2023 season!!

Hey Becky, I'm also a new gardener and 3 years ago I planted lavender and rosemary from seed and my understanding is both types of seeds need a cold period in the fridge kept moist (I used paper towels on plates kept inside ziplock bags) for a few weeks before they will germinate. Edited: I should have added that I was successful and thrilled as I now have all my lavender and rosemary plants growing and thriving in a south facing window in my office. I live in zone 2b so there's no way these plants will be perennial way up north here but I love them and so far so good. This was my hobby to reduce stress at the beginning of 2020, and it was truly a God send.

And after you start your seeds and have mature plants you can make cuttings. I made 150 cuttings a few years ago as a "test" and left it on my front porch all winter and the next spring I had 150 little lavender plants! All of them made it through the winter and were ready to be planted in the spring. Needless to say, I gave many away and sold some others on marketplace.

Rosemary and Lavendar are SO HARD!! LOL After 8 years, I'm still struggling with my own. They grow so slow once germinated that I end up half the time forgeting about them and they die of thirst. I can't believe all the seeds I wasted until I found out about how much they need a cold period to germinate. Kudos to YOU @Little Blue Cloud!!!

Becky. You have taught me so much! My freezer is full right now because of you. I used to make 1 lasagna at a time. Can you believe that? Right now there are 6 lasagnas in my freezer. Couple of pasta bakes. Marinated chicken. 4 apple crumbles (not sure if you call them crumbles - or if it's what you guys mean when you say cobbler). There's loads more in there but I wont bore you with the whole list. Last night I made dinner for my family and I made enough so that we could all have leftovers today and managed to portion out & freeze 24 dinners for my 1 year old. The next meal I cook will also let me freeze a similar amount of food for baby! Problem is my regular freezer is full and now I have to convince my hubby that we need one in the garden shed!!! 😂 Thank you so much for your sweet videos!!!

For any tomatoes and peppers you can get a larger soil-block form that will make a hole the same size of your current size blocks, so when the plants need more soil, you can put them in the center of the larger block to continue growing.

Hey there … I just want to say a HUGE thank you to Becky and the folks at GreenStalk for this wonderful promotional offer on their 5-tier planters! I just purchased two of them! I found this channel a couple months ago and have marathoned my way through all of the videos since then. My husband and I just moved in October from our big-city home in Indiana to our 5-acre little dream retirement home in northern Minnesota, and I’m so excited to become honest to goodness homesteaders! I am soooooo motivated by Becky and Josh’s homesteading journey, and I’ve learned so much about cooking and bulk-buying and storage and having chickens … and now I’m going to try and be a gardener! Well, that is if winter ever ends and I can actually explore my new acreage! 😂 Becky has taught me so much already, and I’m so excited to have found out about the GreenStalks!! Thank you so much for your honest, fun, and real perspective on homestead life! So looking forward to sharing the journey 💖💖💖

When I order from Johnny’s, when the order arrives I go into my catalog and cut out just a tiny picture of what it is and tape it to wherever I have the space to on the envelope. I usually only find myself doing that with flowers, that way I know what they are just by sneaking a peak at the small cutout I taped on envelope. Seems like there should be an easier way for me to do that, but I just haven’t figured that out yet…lol. Love all of your videos Becky!! Thank you, Becky

Becky, what a great gift to all of us! I ordered 2 green stalks and can't wait to get them! We just got another 12 inches of snow on top of everything we already had! Praying for spring!!! I have started some of my seeds but I typically don't plant until Memorial weekend, it's usually not warm enough here in Minnesota until then. It is so fun to watch the progress on your gardens. We also live on a slope and it is amazing to see how they are putting the raised beds together. We are slowly trying to do the same. Hope you all are having a great weekend!

Hi Becky! Brandy here, and I have a suggestion. I grew up on farming lands and we had a terrible time with deer. Our neighborhood farmers did as well. It got to the point some would pipe Loud music and lights on their crops every night trying to keep them all out. You have a HUGE investment in your garden. The deer families that you may be feeding can easily eat and or ruin your whole beds in one evening. If it were me, I would definitely invest in your fencing before all the planting and work goes into your raised beds. Just a suggestion, I'd be heartbroken with you if they ruin all your hard work. All the deer know is to go where the easy food sources are, and the herd's can be many in numbers! Love watching all your progress girl.❤

Hey Becky! Here in Sweden, many people sow vegetables and flowers outside in the winter or early spring.some seeds can be sown on frozen soil and sprinkled with a little potting soil. Either put in plastic bags with lids, add some snow and then put the lid on and put everything outside and it will germinate at the right temperature. You can also put the plastic change in a larger plastic tray that you have drilled a few holes in. Then it will be like a small greenhouse. the snow melts, the temperature gets higher and then you have to water a little if necessary and lighten the lid a little. Try, it is nice that you not need to have all seeds inside and its groing very well Best Regards Helene in Sweden

Hi Becky, for our garden we use Woven ground cover or weed fabric and that works wonders for our raised beds and the pathways. We cover the whole ground with the weed fabric and then when the raised beds were in, we used the fabric on the top of our raised bed and then burnt holes where we wanted to plant, we burnt it so the fabric wouldn't split. makes weeding your garden more controlled faster and easier

Or mix with sugar. I read that in old gardening book. They said the sugar helps to feed soil life to get it off to fast + strong start.

Is it really necessary to plant seeds in these tiny containers then transplant to garden? I know everyone does this but as I’m elderly & only do mostly container gardening in my 1, 3, & 5 gallon black plant containers recycled from trees & shrubs I’ve bought thru the years, I skip all the extra transplanting & sow seeds directly into these bigger containers from the start- why do extra 😂work ? My back can’t take it anymore ! 😢 everything grows great & I save on seeds - I use only 1 or 2 seeds per container- none of these plucking out the strongest seedlings & throwing the rest out - can’t afford the waste as I’m retired, on limited budget - swap seeds with friends & neighbors for more variety as well!😊

I’m so excited to see all them grow! I hope you have a huge success. I’ll have to watch some of your other videos to see how you use all this food you’ll grow. I grew sweet 100 cherry tomatoes many years ago and the plant grew higher than the roof of my house. I love tomatoes (especially just picked and warm from the sun) but I just couldn’t eat them all. There were SO MANY. it’s hard for me to do a lot of preserving as I work in construction and I’m tired when I get home. I’m not getting any younger. When I retire I’d like to do more in the garden.

If you have too many seeds, you could swap extra starts/plants with your neighbors. Build up community equity, that could lead to you taking cuttings from their trees/plants that are already acclimated to your location.

A little piece of advice from my couple times using soil blocks. Leave one block out so you can water. If you water over the blocks, I found the edges would eventually start to melt, and if the blocks melt into each other, I had roots growing into their neighbor's blocks lol. The air pruning didn't work anymore...

Mine have been in the Greenstalks for 3 years now and they set out shoots each year and plant themselves for new ones. I just add fresh soil, but not above the crown and fertilize. I have both June bearers and ever bearing types. No slugs or snail issues, no rot, and no molds.

Hi Becky , in Canada my Dad has fig trees and he cuts a branch and puts it in a pot automatically. He does not wait for roots to come out in the water. They seem to adapt easily when growing when they are planted. But in Canada the winters are so cold that we need to dig a hole and take of the leaves and the the branches together. Then we bend the tree (at the root of the fig tree) cover it with traps and cover it with earth for the winter. And in spring we dog the fig tree out and she is ready to start to grow for figs in August.

You are so blessed to have all these fancy gardening tools and planters. We use all types used food containers to start seeds. They don't look pretty like yours but they work well. We did get a soil blocker at a garage sale but it takes so much time we don't always use it. So happy you can do all the things you are trying. Love your cooking and recipes.

One tip on the extremely tiny seeds. Put them in a white cup or bowl. Use a toothpick to pick them up individually when you moisten the tip a little. Don't cover them with anything other than the vermiculite. It takes a little more work but it is worth it.

If you line the bottom of your raised beds with cardboard (tape and labels removed), you'll stop all the weeds for at least 2 years. The cardboard just breaks down slowly, so no worries there. Love the soil blocker you got! That will make a big difference for you for sure! That's amazing about Greenstalk too.

Have you ever tried to use a small fan on low to help harden the stems before taking the plants outside? I know the process involves more than that but it helps to make the stems stronger at the beginning. I know of several who have had great success with this method.

Nasturtium flowers are edible too look great in a summer salad they are kind of sweet and peppery. The cardboard tubes from toilet rolls and kitchen towels make great seed cells you can cut to size fill with soil etc my neighbour used to start his sweetpea flowers in a whole toilet roll tube as it allowed the roots to grow long giving a healthier plant he used to win prizes for his sweetpeas so there must be something in it lol
