Married for 3 years, she got a free lexus, motorcycle, half a 401k, half a house, all her debt paid off, and probably a xmas bonus on top. All from a trucker's salary. All enforced by "the law". What a disgusting institution marriage has become in the US.

No, marriage is great. The problem is that he shouldn't have married her. They obviously didn't talk about finances before they decided to hook up. My wife and I were on the same page BEFORE marriage, and we've been happily married for 41 years with a paid-off house and no debt. Don't blame marriage. Blame the people.

This sounds like what happened to a guy I went to school with. He dated a girl for a little over a month when she told him she was pregnant and he had to marry her. Friends told him to call her bluff and make her prove it, we even gave him the name of clinics to take her to. He married her. They rented a nice apartment and he filled it with financed goodies. He financed car for them. Obviously, she was not pregnant ('big surprise).A year or so later she wants a divorce, and it was ugly. She dragged it out over how to split the the stuff HE had paid for while they were married. He met with her and her lawyer several times and she was never satisfied. He told us their final meeting lasted about fifteen minutes; he told the judge he was done and ready to sign the paperwork. All he wanted was his truck (it was paid for and he had it before he married); she could have everything else he had paid for. She was stunned and apparently not happy. He said it was as if she did not really want to divorce him and maybe hoped he would beg her to take him back. The divorce was granted and he never looked back. He eventually married and had three kids.

Poor guy, wife goes shopping he saves for retirement and in the end wifey (hopefully doesn't) get half of it. Caller sounds like a good, hard-working man, goes to show how important it is to be discerning who you trust. And not just men, I'm a woman and I've had to take a hit too due to a financially irresponsible guy (earning twice as much as me but still managed to spend it all and drag me into debt). This is why the trend against marriage is growing with so many younger men. Divorces are no fault anymore so all these women have to do is be nice enough to get you to marry them and then like you said, take half. I'm union and my buddy went through this a couple of years ago. He married a woman, took care of her kids as his own and their biological dad never paid a dime, treated the woman like a queen. At the 10 year mark everything changed. She moved out with zero warning, filed for divorce and ended up with half his 401k, half his pension and half the savings. She had been a part time server at a little restaurant during their marriage so she made maybe 10% of the household income. He found out during the divorce she had been cheating on him for a couple of years. Why work your ass off, do the right thing and then just hand half of it over to some woman who was only in it for the money anyway?

Unhappy people staying in unhealthy relationships just because they aren’t friends with themselves. Trust me. Be content by yourself. Don’t chase others in the street. Also, what I meant by ‘not good’ is not every lawyer truly knows the law that they study. It’s merely an interpretation aka opinion of the said-laws. Don’t get me wrong, lawyers know more than the Average Joe or Jill but they make mistakes too and it’s up the judge to decide what to believe. However, the Judge doesn’t always make the right decision either but that’s another can of worms.

Another thing that’s bugging me is all the comments that most pick up truck owners don’t tow or haul anything. i do with my 2022 colorado, i’m towing a side by side with a trailer and use the bed all the time . this truck that almost a base model was 44k . trucks are not cheap unles you go 10 years plus and then your doing repairs

Dave, $740 was the national average for a new car payment a few months back. This is only 25% more than that, all trucks cost this much now. What has to stop is the price of vehicles going up because in case you haven't been looking around, there are no cheap ones anymore. You can expect to pay 15-20K for a very very POS used one now. Prices doubled to tripled since Covid. Most trucks new are close to 100K now out the door.

For a truck around 600-700 in monthly payments, the mileage exceeds 140k pretty regularly from what i've seen. A 7-950 truck payment seems like the norm now for a fairly newer truck. Take a trip to Latin America or SE Asia if you want female companions. The average US woman today is the size of livestock with short hair and a bunch of ugly tattoos. Not feminine or agreeable. I bet if you saved $1000 a month for 7 years you would not want to let go of it to buy the truck in the first place.
