Really? That’s a southern accent if I ever heard one 🤔 then again I’m from the south as well so I didn’t notice 👀

Love this video. I wait for watermelon season every year. I have tried to grow moon and stars melons and haven't had much success. They don't set many fruit (none yet, this year) and they stay really small. Any tips on how to get a better harvest from them?
@gardeningwithhoss5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like it could be a pollination or fertility problem. We fertilize ours pretty regularly. At least once every two weeks.
@pegpeg39395 жыл бұрын
Numm..cant grow them where I live..sure would love to though. I did plant some sugar babys at a friend house that inland a little more..fingers crossed we get some

Great video Greg. Do you have any problems with stink bugs? They are exceptionally bad this year in my area of Texas. Any ideas on how to get rid of them?
@gardeningwithhoss5 жыл бұрын
Hard to get rid of them. You can break the pest cycle by spraying neem/pyrethrin/spinosad weekly. But the best idea is to plant early so that you get the crop harvested before they get too bad later in the summer.

What type of fertilizer and pesticides did you use Greg
@gardeningwithhoss5 жыл бұрын
20-20-20, Micro-Boost, and then a comprehensive pest program rotating several products.

Very nice Greg! I been harvesting the Crimson sweet the last 2 weeks. Thanks for recommending that variety, I like it a lot. How does this Moon & Stars compare to Crimson sweet?
@gardeningwithhoss5 жыл бұрын
The Moon and Stars are bigger. Can't really tell a huge difference in production -- both seem to provide bountiful harvests. Taste-wise, they seem to be pretty similar as well.

Watermelons are big feeders. Use some bagged manure next year, water them several times a week, and make sure they are in an area with the most sun exposure you have. They also like well drained soil, so you can make up your own: bagged top soil, bagged manure, about a 1/4 sand. Mix well, dig a good sized hole (2' X 2') in the ground, fill it with your mixture, then plant your seedlings. Make sure the seedlings pot is damp, and carefully transfer the whole inside of the seedling pot into the ground without disturbing the roots as watermelons **hate** having their root ball disturbed. If you do, they'll grow, but be badly stunted. Good luck.
