Good advice - don't let any other backpackers intimidate you!!! The wilderness space belongs to everyone!!! Great high mountain footage too!

Well done you! I made it to the top of Half Dome about 13 years ago and never again!!😂😂 I still can’t believe I did it I was so scared going up those cables🙈 and it was super busy when I was there it was chaos! So lovely to see you climb with hardly anyone around😊❤

I typically start a hike up Half Dome at 3PM. By the time you get to the cables, they are a ghost town. And you basically own the summit. You can also stay for sunset, which is REALLY cool.

Absolutely stunning! I cant believe people do that trail in one day. Do they not snack? Do they not enjoy the scenery? Do they even want to be there? I cant come close to finishing the 17 mile trail by me in 1 day and thats mostly flat Michigan terrain and not anywhere close to as beautiful as Yosemite. It probably doesnt help that ill see a cool tree or mushroom and be distracted by it for 10 minutes, but still!

@matthewstorm5188
@matthewstorm5188 2 ай бұрын
Climbing Half Dome in a day is just easier. The BIG thing is, you aren’t carrying a heavy pack, so you aren’t ‘cooked’ by the time you reach the top of Nevada Falls. As for being rushed, I’ve never felt this way. I never felt like I couldn’t enjoy the hike because I did it in one day. In fact, I would probably be MUCH more stressed about a backpacking trip because of all the planning and preparation and the greater possibility that something could go wrong. To me, dayhiking is simple, easy, and stress-free.
@teegees
@teegees 26 күн бұрын
@@matthewstorm5188I’m with you on that. Less hassle and load to deal with. If you start easily like 4am you can take long breaks and still make it back in good time.

@@erin_elyseYou are definitely an expert backpacker! Did you have to reserve any camping spot in advance? Or just get a wilderness permit and the cable permit?
@matthewstorm5188
@matthewstorm5188 25 күн бұрын
@@teegees Then again, what do you mean by ‘get back in good time’? I certainly don’t mind hiking in the dark (and you will hike in the dark if you start at 4AM, too). And although I may get back at 11ish or midnight, it’s time to go to bed at that point. What am I going to do for the rest of the day if I start at 4AM and return in the afternoon feeling like a zombie from having next to no sleep and having hiked 16 miles up and back from Half Dome? Here’s how I see it. If you want to start at 4AM because it’s your ‘cup of tea’, go for it. My thing is that starting early like this is shoved down people’s throats as the only way to do the hike. This leaves people enjoying the hike less than they could or even compromising their safety due to fatigue. Or just avoiding the hike altogether. At the end of the day, hiking Half Dome (or anything else) isn’t a job where you have to show up at a given time. It’s meant to be enjoyed, and should be treated as such.
