I work for the fire department, I’m fortunate enough that I didn’t have to go in, but a couple of my friends did and every crew who transported a victim was sent home. I normally don't comment on videos, but I felt the need to do it this time. My husband works for a company in Nebraska that helps with school's tuition, one of them being the Covenant School. He works hard everyday to ensure that tuition is affordable and that these kids have a chance for the future they deserve. When my husband heard about it, he was in tears. He called his mom and spoke with me when I got home from school. The only thing I could think to do was hold him and let him cry it out. While he did not know them on a personal level, it was very heartbreaking as he cares so much for kids and has always done work to help children. It is a shame that we are more concerned about a killer's pronouns than the lives that were affected that day. It makes my husband and I both sick to our stomachs that there is little respect for human life, especially children.

Not to put too fine a point on in, but politics do unfortunately play a part. Now, we need to learn from these incidents. What happened, and how can we prevent this in the future. A good example: My local Catholic school has metal doors. No little shit is just going to shoot out the glass door for easy entry. Maybe that needs to be made a requirement. If not metal, then at least reinforced glass - something with metal wire, or the like to back it up. The folks in charge need to address actual solutions though, rather than pointing fingers at a group of people largely not involved.

@@Skunguss The political system is a bit different here - most political parties are more left leaning than the democratic party in the US, *but* there is a lot less hostility between parties (perhaps because there are so many of them and they form a sort of spectrum, so we see parts of ourselves agreeing with more than one party on most issues). I do lean left on things such as tax and healthcare etc (which obviously also works different in Norway as there is a system in place for that already) , but I have never really agreed with any of the "cancel culture" related stuff etc, and this "fundamentalist tolerance" which I often call it lol.

I’m not even American but the lack of empathy, desperate self preservation and victim blaming from the trans community is a hard blow that everyone will remember. That strike a nerve in me that I didn’t know I could feel towards any community. As someone living in a completely different country, continent even. You normally here about the school shootings that are happening in America not long afterwards, maybe a few hours afterwards. But this is the first time I am hearing about this and I'm absolutely shocked by it. As a Christian it pains me to think of those who have passed away. Here in South Africa you can legally own a gun but school shootings aren't a thing. There is gang violence in some schools but those tend to be more rural and in certain neighbourhoods where gang activity is high. I'm sure I'm gonna piss a lot of people off. Everyone is capable of this. Everyone. I threatened to shoot up my school as a kid. The only reason they couldn't expel me was the psychologist's report; it read "This 15 year old kid is showing similar signs of PTSD as Iraq war vets; He keeps his back to the wall, his hat down, he doesn't want to talk, he understands almost all forms of suffering, he considers going to your school going to battle EVERY DAY. Stop bullying him into the ground without recourse and he'll stop wanting to kill you." All the parents who thought their kids were angels and that I was just a messed up shit went red according to my parents at the Board's meeting. They were told by a literal psychologist: "You're a bunch of assholes, he's getting tired of it; fix your shit he's defending himself." I graduated from there half a year early simply because I got tired of their shit and threatened to go elsewhere with all the credits to graduate already. It's a small school so losing even one graduate would hurt their budget bad. That was all it took. I've got several stories similar to this through my school years. Food for thought.

I’m from Nashville and went to a small private school. My brother and sister are both enrolled in private schools in the Nashville area. It breaks my heart to know someone is capable of such evil actions. I’ve watched the body cam footage engaging the shooter and if there was any good to come out of this situation it was the swift action by the police which I have an enormous amount of respect for. Sadly we lost 6 beautiful lives and my prayers go out to those affected by loss💔

One of the children who was killed turns out to be a distant relative of mine. Hallie Scruggs is her name. She is my aunts, wife’s, cousins, daughter. I know that sounds like some space balls level relation, but my family is still pretty torn up about it. And knowing that, seeing people on Twitter or TikTok saying that this is what republicans deserve for making anti child transgender laws makes me all the more disgusted. It is absurd to me how fast they moved from “Do what we want or we’ll kill ourselves” to “Do what we want or we’ll kill your children”

This is ridiculous about gender identity and religious beliefs going at it, that now it’s costing lives. I lived in Tennessee not far from Nashville and I was in a very religious area and it wasn’t exactly opened to gays. My school was very serious incase of an emergency that they made us watch videos on how to defend ourselves, to safely protect ourselves and others, and how to calm ourselves to prepare for the worst. My school in Tennessee also was honest about drugs and substance abuse for teenagers and adults, while also being respectful and responsible. I then relocated to a suburb of Milwaukee and just this past a week an elementary school of my school system had a band concert and preformed the song, “rainbow land” by Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton. A mother of a student there instead of going to the school went to the media instead to explain why the school shouldn’t have allowed the children participate in the performance of the song and why she doesn’t support the LBTGQ message of the song. That women now put not only her child but all the children of the system at risk including my school. My system is now taking the right approach to in force a new system of safety features to protect these students because of what has happened in Nashville. Now people may not only attack the school because they support or don’t support LBTGQ and I’m sick and tired of it. Not only are parents scared to send their children to school, the students are scared to go to school with the thought that they might not come home. Honestly it’s extremely sad that people of the LGBTQ are supporting this attack instead of understanding the fact that their own community is not perfect. No matter what identity, gender, or religion, your life shouldn’t be at risk because other can’t handle their own trauma. Praying for those who need it 🙏❤
