@@vincentduverger Nah, this should just require drawing from multiple camera angles, and some interpolation using the Z-buffer to reduce the number of angles from 45. It won't need that much GPU power (though SLI is probably quite helpful and should scale very well), and only a tiny bit of added CPU load, mostly just due to driving the GPUs/orchestrating data transfer.

when i was in the hospital a few years ago there were small and really big portraits of pigeons in the hallway next to my room; there were at least 15 of them. they were also holographic and was perplexed by how cool it looked. i walked by them a few times a day to stretch my legs. it seemed like the pictures werent in a digital frame tho. still don't know how they got it to work otherwise. it was very detailed and awesome. i also could've imagined everything being high on pain killers for 3 days

@Peter ⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻ Pretty sure they don't even have "one" 3090 running the existing ones, and a lot would depend on a) if you are doing true 3D, where it has to calculate things, or something closer to isomorphics, as well as what resolution you are looking at attempting. It is likely, with some clever tricks, to be far less of a hardware issue than you make it out to be. That said.. Yeah, real time 3D would possibly require at least one such card - if you did it full on 3D like that. But.. if you where only doing someone "good enough", like early WOW or Ever Quest - pretty sure you could at least "approach it".

Not with this technology. Lenticulars like this only work if your eyes are on the correct orientation for the lenticular. If you put this portrait display in landscape, the illusion doesn't work and it looks like a regular screen. I think AR solutions will get you closer to your dream, I liked what the Hololens had to offer but the viewing angle was not very big.

I just received mine today and it is pretty damn cool. I've been a 3D fan since anaglyph and lenticular 3D and the 1st laser holograms. I see tons of potential for this. And it does include one waifu in the demo and there are already several new models/animations available through the community. So that I know will make some happy and give them an idea of what it possible. While not 'useful' to some it looks cool as a desk or shelf piece and has that animated pictures in Harry Potter magic to it. I got a lot of ideas that could really push this in marketability. One thing he did not really mention was the trim light can be turned off and when it is it has a nicer depth effect since you do not see the white lines reflected like and grid line.

I could see this being used for entertainment centers, theme parks, clothing/jewelry stores and other customer facing services. I'm not sure it would fit in any of my professional work at this time, but if it becomes a mainstream portrait frame and of varying sizes, I can definitely see photographers taking new formats of photography and videography for clients. Heck, imagine having a videographer take a multi view video of your wedding kiss to create a holographic motion image that looks good on this thing. I don't see it becoming affordable any time soon, but if I can get some high profile clients I would definitely think I could charge them buttloads for something like that.

I love the idea of hacking the quilt to not make it the same model from different angles, but a hanging model for example. When I was like 13 years old I did an art Project where a Kinect was used to get the distance from the viewer and blend through different painted frames as the viewers got closer/further away. But I hope it ends up being even more powerful and having more axis in the future.

Could it possibly be that the adjustable number of viewing angles determines the number of images rendered, allowing to manage the load on the gpu? I haven't seen the device first hand, but I guess it's drawing alternate strips of images (kinda...) behind the lens for the different angles, and reducing the number of viewing angles would mean rendering less images and instead repeating strips.
