The writers for this game do not possess the tact required to potentially make this 'based on a true story' vibe work. The constant repetition of "why would I help him...I must be a monster...I bet that's what you're thinking......" is such a dry way to communicate "there's more to this than you might think." It feels like 2014 Wattpad writing, and it's made so much worse by basing this on the terrible deaths of real people. This feels like a walking sim with a smattering of 'mechanics' and an excessive, painful amount of false-tension which doesn't land in the slightest. It's questionable to base a video game on real murders, particularly those involving very young people, and the devs didn't even have the decency to commit to really sharing the horror of the story- while that still isn't a good idea, it would at least *do* something with the suffering of these real people. Watching this (to no fault of Insym) felt like circling a drain of "ooooh wait, wait, here comes the twiiiist...ahhh hang on, timeskip! Oh but just wait! Wait! It's soooo worth it!" They should drop the 'true story' element entirely and focus on making a decent game.

Although this game was an improvement, I can't get behind the 'real serial killer' plot, its so disrespectful to the victims families. Half his victims were children (a 10 yo, 12 yo, 13 yo, two 15 yos). This game barely covers the 'true' story, yet exploits the victims to make a 'spooky' game with crappy mechanics like dont-touch-the-vases mazes. These games feel half baked coding wise and just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

@garnetbristan998412 күн бұрын
Yeah I think it’s best to avoid this “based on a true story” and just make original stories if you wanna make a game. Absolutely take inspiration in the story from real life events if you want, but this whole “based on true events” thing opens you up to embellishing the story and upsetting the REAL life families of the REAL victims. So I find it most prudent to just avoid that as a whole and make original stories (but that’s just me though).
@sonn207712 күн бұрын
This is the light version. It would be more disrespectful if they follow the true story. That version was significantly more brutal and violent. It would remind them of their traumas

@Quon10 күн бұрын
so what isn't a lethal spot? askin for a friend
@gordonmorgan313110 күн бұрын
Technically its not, its a mortal wound. If its tied off or aimed right or pressed right its easily survivable, it can kill you but its more disabling, its meant to incapacitate and try to not kill someone, like you can shot someones srm with less risk of death but they're not stopping from that shot. They can still carry on with that wound But the knee? Foot? Lower leg? Outer thigh? Cant really run with that.

Kinda crazy this is a game... They say it's "based on a real story", but don't even really cover it. The only reason to advertise it as such is to make it more interesting. If you're me and you don't know the true story, this is based on the serial killer Christopher Wilder. Massive trigger warnings even reading the Wikipedia, I don't recommend it. This game doesn't even begin to demonstrate the evil of this man. Samantha, the 16 year old girl in this game, is based off of the real life Tina Marie Risico who survived and is now 56 years old. The sad part is that this idiot accidentally ended himself and did not have to face justice for his crimes.

re it being almost impossible to get away with crimes these days... there are major American cities where they celebrate when they manage a homicide clearance case of 50%, and even then half of those cases might be closed without actually arresting anyone and numbers are inflated by closing cases that took place as much as 50 years ago. (*cough*Chicago*cough*) Basically if there are 800 murders in a year and they close 400 murder cases it looks like they've solved half of them because they don't include the information that 200 of them were cold cases and the killer is already dead or it's been too long for the case to hold up at trial. It's actually extremely easy to get away with murder as long as you do it in the "right" place and target the "right" people. There are certainly quite a lot of serial killers we've never heard of because their cases were never even connected to each other, let alone solved.

Honestly the amount of moral grandstanding in the comments is hilarious if not a little sad.
@JoJo-is-the-name10 күн бұрын
How is it 'hilarious' that people have empathy for victims and their surviving family? Or 'sad'? People care about abuse victims and know that this game is not at all respectful towards a serious topic. The 'protagonist' of this game was a real life sixteen year old girl, who was violently SA's for hours on end for nine nights in a row. A woman who is still alive and was, as recently as 2024, talking about her trauma from this incident. Forty years later, she sleeps with his arms crossed above her head because that was how she was tied her to the bed during those nine nights. Saying how the only reason she survived was because she had already experienced SA as a child and knew how to appease to an abuser. This game has no nuance or depth or honest care about the people it's exploiting or their real stories. If I was assaulted and someone made a silly video game about it, I would have a breakdown. Its not moral grandstanding, it is basic human decency.
