They took a lot but boy, they left some goodies; that book of prints - the first thing, the old framed artwork? I'll eat my hat if there's not something valuable there. Schiller, Goethe, a cultural grotto. The heavy hoop? Roll it Renee, roll it……😊

Some pretty neat finds in the basement. The Barnum & Bailey poster could be worth big buck, if it´s genuine. I think that old LIFE magazines might generate better prices here than in the U.S., because they are more scarce in Europe. And yes, the box with old books probably belonged to a person or family with German background, the French lesson book says "Franzoesisch". 6:03 not a Gutenberg, but a "Religioeses Unterrichts- und Erbauungs- Buch( religious lesson book)", probably around 1900. 6:25 Interesting to see a Hannover adress in this book (Hannover, Scheffelstrasse 14), I know this street. Not a hula hoop for you, Renée, I think that Tony is right they used it with a stick kicking it down the road back in those days. 🤣 Glad to hear that your basement heist was extremely successful. 👍Keep it up, and see you on the next one ! 👌 Greets from GER, U.

No Gutenberg on this round, but perhaps we are getting close! I think you are correct on the Life Magazines. They are very difficult to sell here, or at least sell for "decent" money. Most people at the flea market charge just a few dollars for one or make the price cheap enough that you'll buy the whole box. We added the Barnum & Bailey to the research pile, but just to have an idea of a fair price to offer it at the flea market... shipping that, no thanks! Hope that your Tuesday is going well!

@@PaperandMooseJust check "A Leaf of the Gutenberg Bible" here on yt with the one and only Rebecca Romney. There´s a good chance to find a single page if you know the map and the display so it´s easy to remember it while crawling through tons of old books and papers. Your knowledge will be your wealth, Renée ! 😉

The owners were a bit insane with buying. Feel bad for the family having to go through all this. Very overwhelming. Not good for the health. They should have just let someone hold a few different auctions until it was all gone. But, it is a win for you guys. There are some great stuff out of this home.

I laughed out loud as you attempted to hula hoop with that heavy metal ring! You are lucky you didn't break a toe or two if it had hit your foot wrongly. I am not sure what "game" that hoop was used for, because I am pretty sure that the hoops that were often rolled down the road with a stick were barrel hoops. Maybe that one was a barrel hoop upgrade for rich kids lol. If you didn't already, be sure to flip through all of those old books even if you don't intend on selling them. People sometimes stick old photos and even paper money in books for safekeeping. You guys should do well on all of that artwork that they left for you. Thanks for sharing this fun (and funny) video!

All that artwork reminds me of two cleanouts I was involved in during the late 90s...the late owner just was an art hoarder...never hung any of the pieces, just merely stacked the pictures and photos in shelves and piles! I still see art storage in the few sales I have gone to...most, if all, is of little interest to me, as I have all my vintage art/ illustrations, from the 1920s and 30s on my walls...marine subjects are my favorites! Oh, yes, I have my fr-g gallery down in the basement, these are framed and hung for all to enjoy! My goodness...they were certainly hoarders! Saves gym costs! Was any of that stuff moldy? Well, you'd have a 4th worker if I was in the area!
@PaperandMoose
@PaperandMoose 5 ай бұрын
I only noticed a few books had some spotting on them, thankfully. It seems as if they were somewhat hoarders too, as many of their auction buys just went to a shelf and stayed there. Perhaps it was more of the thrill of the auction bidding & knowing they won versus displaying all of their treasures. We had many paintings of dogs, but no frogs... one day!

The house just keeps on giving. Looks like most of the art was in good condition so I am assuming that basement was climate controlled? It looked dry & seemed to have HVAC ductwork. I don't store things affected by water or mold in our basement because it's damp even with 2 dehumidifiers. I see respectable profits in your future. I know that today was about the artwork, but the autograph book and the photographs - anything good there? Any albums? Was that Uncle Sam piece reverse-painted glass? WWI, I guess? Tony is always ready with aa TV or movie reference! The hula-hooping - well, you did as well as I would do with a real hula hoop. Did you ever have one of those lemon things that hooked around your ankle and you twirled it and jumped it with the other leg? Hope the spring-like weather motivates people to call you to help them with "spring cleaning" entire houses! Have a great Tuesday afternoon! I've read it's the most productive day of the week. Thanks for another interesting & fun video!

The Berlin or Bust was a print, and correct - for WWI. Autograph book was the typical school autograph book, but they always hold interesting phrases used during the time. How things have changed from what is written in "yearbooks" today! Oh yes, I remember the toy called "Skip-It", which hooked around your ankle. That caused some hurt if you were standing too close to someone else & it hit you in the ankle or calf! Our spring weather has felt like fall with the chilly mornings and windy afternoons. As long as we get to experience some spring weather before the heat comes in! Hope that you have a great work week! (Also picked up your package yesterday!)

Unfortunately the three of you have no idea of how to handle and pack art work that is framed. When stacking either horizontally or vertically, you place the frames face to face, back to back. Otherwise you face the possibility of the back of one frame scratching or damaging the face of the one it is placed on. This can be caused by nails in the frame's construction or the nails or brads holding backing in place. This is especially true with frames decorated with fancy gesso decoration. The owners were ignorant of proper storage also, as are the majority of people who are not collectors or dealers. Once a frame is damaged it lessens the value, sometimes substantially. From what i have seen in your videos and Taco's, there doesn't appear to be a lot of real value in what the owners purchased. Hopefully there are some valuable pieces which did not show up in the videos. Please do not take this as criticism of the three of you. I just hope it will give you useful knowledge to help prevent damage to possibly valuable pieces. David
