I've never liked IGN, even going back like 20 years, there were just sites i liked way better. It only got worse as time went on. Now, "game journalism" is an absolute joke. I go by *user* reviews for everything, since these are unfortunately not the greatest times that we're in. I used to really like EGM, at least, magazines used to be good. I have a collection going back from the late 80s, through the 90s, and into the mid 2000s. The reviewers actually cared about what they were doing, and they played the games the whole way through, even appreciating a good challenge. It was actually interesting to read through them.

Just don't forget everyone, while it is always nice to laugh at some of the wonky reviews of the past, remember that they are usually connected with the writer, and not reflecting the publication as a whole. Using the IGN example, the current staff there now actually favors Sonic Unleashed(which got an infamous 4.3/10 grade in the past) to the point where it even made their recent Top 10 Best Sonic games video.The person who wrote that review hasn't even worked for them about a decade to boot. And speaking personally, as bad as the God Hand review was, I still think Game Informer giving the original GC version of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door a 6.75/10 for thinking it was too kiddy/for younger audiences was much worse. And then there's also the Mixed reception from multiple outlets for Alien: Resurrection on the PlayStation, with the majority of criticism at the time being it's control scheme...which in time, would later become known as *the standard control scheme of pretty much every Console FPS right now* .

God hand! Love this game. But I know it divides people. Some love it, some hates it and some just say "meh" and quits. It is frustratingly hard, but when you succeed you feel soooo good! I absolutely love this game. The outright wacky and silly story coupled with the vastly customizable combo system is well worth playing. I am so sad that this game never got a sequel. At the very least, it would be cool to see Gene in Devil May Cry or a Marvel vs. Capcom game.

Godhand was a difficult, technicality complex game, that not only did not hold your hand, it mocked for choosing easier difficulties. It had a crude, sense of humor and some graphical issues steaming from the above the shoulder view. It was a game that rewarded experimentation and punished button mashing. It failed to be a hit because it refused to compromise on its vision. And that's why it's a stone cold classic for me.

A game review is basically a person's opinion. He played the game and didn't like it, so he gave it a negative review. What should he have done instead? Should he have waited to see what other reviewers were saying so that he could go with the popular opinion? Is that how it's supposed to work?

reviews used to be collaborations of 3 or more people , they would write and rate everything on their own then collaborate on their final thoughts and score . was much better because it involved a range of preferences , one person may be hardcore into the genre and another not as much , during the consensus they would also kinda debate each other to defend their score if it was far off in a category , it is not about conforming to popular opinion its about stating and understanding the biases of each reviewer to make an informed decision . more often now the "reviews" are an egocentric literary rant by a writer who does not want to do game reviews .

IGN is a joke this days that no one takes seriously, has been that way for decades, nothing new really, might as well give the younger gamers a leason that do not trust game journalists, they are now your foe. Stellar Blade thingy as an example. The korean game dev, Shift Up, they used a smoking hot model, they scaned her into the game, her name is; Shin Jae-eun, making that characters body is indeed realistic. Because the model, she exists in the flesh. Than there has been a lot of games where the reviewer at IGN went: Wahh! Game to hard. Or gave a good game a bad score just because it was out of the reviewers confort zone. IGN has even been memed apon so many times, IGN 10/10. Also there has been a lot of jokes about game journalists skill when it comes to playing games sense decades. What really takes the cake was that game journalist, Dean Takahashi that was unable to beat cup heads tutorial. Infamous God Hand was a good warning.

Played it, know what i was doing, yet still i just couldnt get into it. Wasnt for me. Saying that even i know that this game is more then a score of 3/10, just ridiculous :). And im not a fan nor a hater, simply the game is not for me. But that doesnt mean the game is shit just cause i cant beat it or i dont like the characters or i dont like the movement or i dont know what else. See this is why reviews are just an opinion of ONE individual who tries but mostly fail to differentiate oneself from what he likes personally and what the game is really like or must be like for those who might enjoy. In my opinion reviews will always be subjective and never objective. Probably thats why its good that the more review exist the better overal view u can get hows the game really like.
