at school, there was a group of trans people talking about dragon age a table over, and they literally said exactly this. they DID NOT AGREE about the inclusion of surgery scars. at this point I went over and asked out of curiosity, what they thought about it being inclusive? They said although they can see Bioware is trying to be inclusive, actual trans people just want to be treated normally, like everyone else. So the option to pick a female or male character is already there, so the surgery scars were unnecessary.

to be fair, there is no indication that magic can swap gender physically. that does not however prove that top surgery also existed in the lore. the only transgender character shown so far in the series did not undergo any surgeries afaik.

I remember when Dragon Age was a dark fantasy game about fighting demons and dragons. You didn't play as yourself. You played as the character you chose, whether that be a city elf, human noble, dwarf noble, wood elf or a dwarf peasant. That's why Dragon Age Origins has your choice of playable origin stories for your main character. Dragon Age 2 was more limiting, only letting you play as a human with a fixed backstory.

The character creator of this game is the least of its problems. It begins with the art style, lack of textures, followed by the combat system, companion reduction, no control over the companions, and Marvel-esque, corny dialogue that is completely out of place in a fcking fantasy setting. Nevermind that they employ lame, outdated tropes (scaffolding, really?!?) for the sake of story progression! The writing is fcking lazy! Facial animations are off, movements look wooden. Environmental physics are ridiculous! Then the damn _game_ _director_ doesn't know key characters from previous games! And not to forget the constant assault on your eyes and neurons via flashing, bright, neon-colored FX & a cluttered, intrusive UI! However, the biggest problem of them all is the fact that you can only carry over 3 decisions from Inquisition, one of which is whom your Inquisitor banged. Are you kidding me?! How is this still Dragon Age? Continuity mattered! It's what made these games special! It's a massive downgrade from all 3 previous games. But sure, everybody keep either praising or complaining about the damn scars. Most people wouldn't give a crap about that shxt IF the damn game had kept what made Dragon Age stand out from other games. No, instead we get a twisted, neutered, sanitized, and airbrushed "reboot" that is Dragon Age in name only. I do have a problem with those scars, too, btw. But it's not what you think it is. Mine is that it completely retcons Krem and his experiences. Krem was written in a very respectful manner, and they took a dump all over that for the sake of what they call "inclusivity". But hey, as a 30-something lesbian who played the games multiple times & has read the novels and comics, I'm just another fcking tourist, am I right?

Agree with everything you said. I peaced out of this after I found out I couldn't control the companions. I was already on the fence after I saw the art style and combat. When I heard only 3 choices, all from the Trespasser DLC, will be the only choices to carry over I knew I made the right choice to avoid this game. It makes me sad. I began a new playthrough of Origins tonight and you can tell it was made with so much love. This new game just looks souless to me.

The biggest problem about the game is that the writers are so consumed over identity politics that the story writing completely ignores already established lore. The original Dragon Age had a grimdark aura around it and drew in the players for the gameplay. All of this is not present anymore in this game.

It is obvious inclusiveness only applies to what the devs or Corinne Busche cared for, rather than actually being inclusive. Can't give a female character large boobs or butt, can't make your male character buff, can't make your character fat. Again, *WHERE is the inclusivity?* The artstyle looks so soft and plain like a mobile game, just pastel after pastel after pastel. The characters look a bland and generic, not overly feminine or masculine, just kinda default. That's not what I was hoping for, so hopefully they are written well. Qunari are now ugly Dollar Store Tieflings, that pride demon looks awful, and what the heck are even the Darkspawn now? Some kinda offbrand demon suicide squad? It looks like the artists had darkspawn and demons described to them without ever playing or seeing the previous games and made their own version of what they think the appearance should be. Nothing about it feels like a world where the the literal stakes have never been higher. I keep seeing all these minor details that are just adding up to what seems like its going to be a total disaster. This is what we've been waiting for?!?? Maybe Solas was right afterall, just let it all burn.

I don't find the top scars that big of an issue, except they dont really fit in lorewise. I'm more perplexed as to this game making women bland. Service to trans people, but none to women who may happen to have a bigger bust or rear. Its removed because politics cite the "male gaze" but lets be fair they want these characters as gender neutral bodywise as they can. Sure men will make women with assets closer to their fantasies, but so will women. My female coworker said its like you can be man, but not a butch one, a trans man, or a woman who's built more like a more masculine woman. She likes to make female characters that are more "sexualized" versions of herself and big muscle dudes. They are aiming for a very narrow view of who you can be.

I'm a huge Dragon Age fan and loved Inquisition. But every new detail i learn about Veilguard makes me less and less excited. Outside of the art design and questionable customization options, they confirmed that only 3 decisions from previous games will matter in the new one. That is pitiful. Character choice and how we previous decisions impact the story has been a stable of the series. Inquisition acknowledged many decisions from the first two games yet Veilguard will only take into 3 (all of which are only from Inquisition). I still want to play to see how Solas story ends but i may wait for a discount.

The only choices being from the Inquisition is because they are trying very hard to pretend that DA2 never existed (since it was kind of a mess) along with DAO (because they don't want it to be compared to the first game knowing it would be only a pathetic shadow). Well ideally the writing would be better across the previous two games. I can only work with what BioWare gives me. Theyve always marketed the series and developed it as one in which player choice is a primary motivating factor. Yet for some reason they continuously write themselves into corners and leave dangling unresolved plot threads. Then they throw weird temper tantrums when fans bring this up. I'm just going to be honest, the current development team at BioWare is really really weird. And I have extremely little faith in any of their future products. Game director and devs need to to "pull a Barve" for producing such a game. Massive economic loass for EA. BioWare may fail due to the losses. Feel bad for employees who will become unemployed.

I agree with your thought. inclusion is meant for all. so all body types should be available. skewing to one side will limit expression causing regression. I dont like that thought. what im saying is its ok to handover the spotlight. that gesture can go a long way but, keep in mind that others deserve a chance too.

Look I'm a gamer from the very late 70s into the early 80s. I still play video games. If I like a game I'll play it. If it could be improved I'll express my opinion in a civilized manner in the right spot. If I don't like a game I will not play it. Again if I feel the need to give my opinion I'll do it so like I said before. Some people can't do that. Shut the hell up and stop wasring everyone's time by doing that.

Well done! I realize that there is a "budget" for polygons in a scene and that it is far easier to prevent clipping with clothing/armor if all the figures are similar, but they could have added a bit to the slider in the breast and glute area. They have a slider for male netherworks so why limit the female figure?

I'm a trans woman, and most times I'm happy to just have the option of playing a female character, who is also feminine and conventionally attractive, or can be modified to be, my own butt is also a bit more ample than what this character creator seems to allow, it's indeed a pathetic thing, and I know other trans women with more ample breasts and curvier physiques as well. It's frankly insulting that a lot of these weirdos keep trying to tell us how we should look, I can even confidently claim to be a more attractive and feminine woman than the 'female' characters they keep uglifying for the imaginary 'modern audience'.

You can't have too many options for women's proportions in the game because people freak out about sexualizing women in video games. For some reason this means no female characters are allowed to have any sort of traditionally attractive traits. As a fairly conservative Christian woman, I personally believe most women in video games need more clothes, but I don't see why they are just forbidden from being pretty. It is a radical overcorrection from the issue of unattainable beauty standards that people were starting to have an issue with in the 90s.

The character isn't me, even in an MMO were it's an "avatar" it's not me. It will never be me and wanting it to be me seems weird. So I make a pretty thing that is nice to look at for 100's of hours. It's as simple as that.

Simple, it's cheap to make a surgery scare texture but expensive to address massive chests and buttocks in or through many models, armors and model movements.

Its not that expensive. Its a long running trend in a lot of modern AAA games to that seem to slowly erase femineity and variations in the women bodies. Unless of course you want to be a feminine man then that is ok.
