Attracted to the MT in the CT4? Consider getting one soon. As other brands have found, offering a manual transmission generates applause from self-styled "enthusiasts" and automotive journalists and then sit unsold on dealer lots until they're sold at deep discounts. So after offering the MT for a year or two, the option disappears.
@darwinLee812833 жыл бұрын
I am trying to understand why this is. I'm assuming the person who actually loves Manuals can't afford them. Meaning The people who can afford this car. (older adults) don't wanna drive stick anymore lol
@stephenhendricks1033 жыл бұрын
@@darwinLee81283 Well, speaking as one of those "older adults," I don't think that's exactly the issue. When I began driving in the 1960's it was on a '54 Kaiser with a stick. Even then ATs had already surpassed MT cars in terms of popularity. Most drivers valued the convenience of a transmission that shifted for itself. In those days and for years after consumers were willing to pay significantly more for an AT even when an MT was available. But there was a price to be paid for an AT vehicle. And not just in terms of a significantly higher purchase price. For many years driving car with an AT meant sacrificing substantial performance compared to the same vehicle with an MT. To even the playing field automakers built larger and more powerful engines to drive a vehicle with an AT with two or at most three gears and sluggish shifting behavior. But in the last few decades the engineering and technology of ATs has improved tremendously and emission regulations and fuel cost have meant automakers couldn't simply add cubic inches to an engine to improve performance. What automakers have done, of course, is to design smaller, more fuel efficient engines, often with turbochargers to boost performance. At the same time, ATs have evolved tremendously, at first offering four or five gears, then six, then eight, then ten. All with stronger materials, and more sophisticated behavior controlled with software. Today, an automatic transmission vehicle will almost always outperform an MT. And dual clutch transmissions (In effect, automated manual gearboxes) are clearly superior to MTs in terms of performance. No driver, no matter how skilled and experienced, can shift faster than a computer. I stuck with MTs for many years. Until 2013 I always had at least one MT vehicle in my garage. At that point I bought a VW GTI with their excellent DSG (dual clutch) transmission. I did so in part because my wife sometimes borrowed the car to commute in terrible Seattle traffic. But I also found that I had as much "involvement" and "control" over the transmissions behavior in "manual" mode as I had enjoyed in years of driving manual transmission vehicles. (My last MT was a Mazda RX-8 I sold when I bought the GTI and I was an "older adult" when I owned it. 😁) Bottom line. I didn't give up an MT because I didn't "wanna drive stick anymore."" I just replaced a stick with an automated manual transmission that shifted faster than I could.

The reserved part of Acura annoys the shit out of people, and knowing Honda the internal Components of the engine are rock solid and ready to impress. The CT4-V gives a buyer just enough confidence to feel proud once they involuntarily optioned it out to 80k, but they don't care because the horsepower is more than adequate and the suspension has high praise from the community.

i'm sorry this is not a 'track ready car', anyone that has run their car at the track knows that.... PS4S is a street tire with no significant grip, the brake pads/lines/fluid all have to be upgraded, and the car is probably sprung too softly for any serious lap times. Any performance sedan - whether its an M3/M4/M2, C63, etc will have to go to a transformation for any kind of serious weekend track work. I think Cadillac is giving a false impression, I'm sure the car drives great but always using 'track ready' everywhere is misleading.
@chronodriver3 жыл бұрын
I hear what you are saying but...you are basing what you are saying on how cars were (and you are correct). These cars did 24hr track tests with all stock parts and were worthy in the laps I did. It's true, they can run on stock parts for repeated laps and yes the tire is new and built for that too. Can you upgrade and make them better? Yes, you can always make them better but they do exactly what they said they can do, it's impressive
@rdollie13 жыл бұрын
Sure, you can upgrade any car over time but the base car comes with bespoke Michelin PS4S tires - not used on any other car. From what I read they're made of about 61% R compound. Most importantly the proof is in the pudding. This car already ran VIR from published reports 4.5 seconds PER LAP faster than the M5 Comp - that's a BIG margin. In fact it beat the 991 911 GT3 at VIR as well. I agree 2-ton sedans aren't typical or traditional track cars but with the right approach they're viable (I've run a '17 CTS-V at Pacific Raceway for the past few years and plan to do the same with the CT5-V BW I picked up last week - after I find a source for replacement tires and get some prep work done.)

Is this car still up to 26% China sourced like the basic versions of this car? And have the basic, SIMPLE problems with this 3.6l V6 been addressed? Who on Earth would buy any GM car with this engine knowing they're facing timing chains and guide issues that can cost up to $5,000 once the warranty expires? And oiling problems, ugh. $5,000....for weak timing chains. It's worse than the head bolt issues for Northstars. There is a reason you see very few out of warranty 3.6l v6 equipped GM products on the road. Take a look around, how many of those once prolific Camaros are on the road after only 10 years?

Is that in any way more expensive than a Turbocharger that fails out of warranty?

Um, I see plenty of 5th gen Camaro V6s and Traverses, Enclaves and Impalas on the road.

@@EdMiF as long as the oil is religiously changed and of the proper or better quality than recommended. I do not see many older anything with the 3.6. I saw an older Enclave earlier today and noticed it due to not having seen one in a while. And, up here, near Chicago, I do not see many 5 gen Camaros with the V6, anymore. My mom bought a 2011 Camaro in October 2010. I was impressed with its power, but once word got out concerning reliability she traded it after less than 20,000 miles.

@@blang38 it doesn't matter I rented a 2020 and a 2021 .. either way their interior is incredibly cheap and it's not a very reliable car .. hell they don't even make parts for the car to repair after the warranty .. maybe If Cadillac wasn't owned by GM it would still be a quality car but sadly it's not .. their expensive for no reason and break down to often.. and you have to understand this channel is basically a marketing channel now which they get access to cars like hundai kia Nissan land Rover Mercedes dodge, jeep so often even though their are not good quality cars .. which is why they never highlight the recalls, cost to own and depreciation issues these brands have

My dad bought a 2010 CT-4 with the 3.6 and he had nothing but problems. He’d never get rid of that car. Put thousands of dollars into it. He bought a new Lincoln Continental and still keep that Cadillac. He passed away last year and my brother took the Cadillac. He’s about to trade it in finally after putting thousands of dollars into it and it just broke down again. That Cadillac CT-4 was absolute junk. Zero reliability.

Your father probably bought a ATS not a CT-4, and yes I can confirm that the ATS had issues which left much to be desired from a Cadillac. The 2022 CT-4 however, has significant improvements in build quality technology and performance over the old ATS. I wouldn't write it off so easily. My regrets for the passing of your father, may he rest in peace.

@@AnthonyEvelyn evidently those improvements don't extend to the engines because both of them use turbochargers, are just as bad to replace out-of-warranty as timing chains
