Have you ever tried to "maximize your leverages" on the squat and it just feels awkward as hell? Sometimes it is better to pay attention to internal cues and self organize into stronger positions. Does a narrow stance squat feel stronger? Go with that, even if you travel a longer range of motion. Have you been told low bar is the only way you should squat but high bar feels more comfortable, you can train it more consistently and see more progress in it? Squat high bar. This video is for the wide hip boys trying to keep space for their hips to sink down between their legs. Position Shoes: positionusa.com/

Hey, just a genuine thank you man. I've been struggling with my squat recently and have been troubleshooting what the cause could be. I had a lot of forward lean and never really thought about my femurs. Now that you mention the femurs hitting the acetabulum i think i can actually feel it. If i stand sort of on my toes (barefoot, bodyweight) I can remain almost perfect upright throughout the squat. If I try to do it flat footed I can only throw my hips back, which is limited to above parallel and it's something in that femur/hip connection socket that's stopping it. Gotta do some ankle mobility stretches now and swap back from my flat shoes to ones with heels. wide hip crew reppin Thank you Omar

Yes. You only want to squat to the depth before you butt wink. It takes a lifetime to get the right width. Back in my younger years I was convinced you always needed to go ass to grass but it left me with a herniated disc because I had butt wink
@johnmartins05224 жыл бұрын
@@M5Dri3rz Sorry to revive this comment thread so late lol but yes, I second this. I squatted for a couple years with major butt wink back when I had no clue what I was doing, and pushing through any pain because I thought going ass to grass was just "what you do." Unfortunately, this has absolutey wrecked my lower back/glute, pelvic alignment, and ability to squat for a while. Currently attending PT now and getting back into the swing of things.

It's interesting that you mention the short/long femur and the buttwink that ensues when squatting with your hips far back.. I completely resonated with that! But rather than widening my stance, I actually prefer a narrower stance. So this goes to show that we really are all unique little snowflakes... Thanks Omar!

Just Some Guy without a Mustache for me it had limited results. Nowadays I much prefer to spread the floor so just directing the force “outwards”. This may be because of my terrible terrible ankle flexion ROM
@PauIdenino4 жыл бұрын
I'd imagine that doesn't work too well with only socks on, because your feet would slide on the floor, even if it's a weightlifting platform.

This one cue that I got from a trainer really worked for me for my squats. Just place you heel at a little wider than shoulder width with the bar unracked and on your shoulders and squeeze your glutes tight. Your feet would automatically flare and position themselves where they are the most comfortable.

If you watch the latest Juji video with Stan Efferding, he advocates for almost the opposite for people with knee pain (extreme low bar and good morning type squat). How do you know when to go with a form that is comfortable now versus trying to make a different form comfortable because it's better for you in the long run.
@joeymichael22314 жыл бұрын
Aamir Javaid as far as figuring out how to find out which form is best for you. Decrease the weight and give a few different things a try. Experimentation is the only way I know. But definitely decrease the weight. You wanna improve, not suffer an injury from a form alteration

I've already learned it from "squat university" youtube channel. Basically what the external driving torque you exert by your knees does to your squat is to open your hips, recruit your tendons in the right way and give you the right leverages. When i first found it and tried it after years of experience of squat it changed my life. One last tip. Before applying outwards torque to your knees and maintain it throughout the whole movement try to grip the floor with your feet: this will create the arch in your foot and a stable base, on top of that this way when you exert torque in the knees your feet will stay sturdy and won't lift the internal bit from the ground.

Easy way to find if you have a narrow, medium, or wide squat stance. Lay on the floor on your back. Bring your legs back in a squat motion as far as you can comfortably. That's your natural hip joint movement. Found out mine is a lot narrower than most and I've been squatting comfortably ever since.

When we look at the best raw squatters in the world, one thing we see on openers and warmups is an exaggerated “knees forward” mechanic where they’re using their glutes/hips to put their knees in a better position to express the quad’s capacity for knee extension. This is also evident in the latter half of a max squat attempt in many high level lifters. They may pitch forward, knees cave or whatever their personal sticky is, but once they’ve overcome that sticky (or might actually be that sticky) we often see these lifters push their knees forward at the latter half of the movement. If anyone is looking to try this, A small tip would be to start with suuuuper exaggerates knees forward, so when it comes to higher weights you won’t actually be able to “over shoot” the knees forward. Also, the balance aspect may need to be paid attention to at first until it becomes a true motor pattern Cheers!

@poseidon1292664 жыл бұрын
I had sore lower back too. Then I made the change in this video. In my experience, allowing the knees to go a bit more forward is what transfers load from your lower back to your quads. It's taking me some time to work back up to full weight (3 plates, sets of 5).

What you guys think about squeezing your calves when squatting? I mean for overall tightness, I feel that my knees want to flex further so I have to stay more upright than normally (I'm a high bar, "not a lot of knee traveling forward because of my wide stance, and using 1 inch heel shoes" squatter, anyway it's something new am trying and Im not completely sure if I should keep doing it, o just leave it lose and focusing on my old technique (Wich is not bad, but we can always improve)

Omar I’ve been watching your videos since you had short hair and always thought we had similar bone structures. I was naturally a very fast and explosive sprinter, but ran into (no pun intended) all kinds of problems when I tried to squat high bar. My knees have hated me for years as a result and I’ve only recently come to terms with the fact that I just might not be built for squatting. There are genetic limitations after all. Fortunately I can still crush it on a bike or airdyne so I’ll stick to that.
