Hilarious isn't, legally in the US unpaid internships can't produce any tangible goods for the business or direct profits. So unpaid interns end up doing busy work instead of actually productive work.

That’s not true, check the DOL fact sheet. Unpaid internships must provide learning opportunities for the intern. Manual labor does not provide learning equivalent and thus does not meet this standard. If it were about tangible goods or profits as you suggest, the manual labor and busy work still wouldn’t qualify.
