One Foot Off the Grid

One Foot Off the Grid

Yes.
We put up a shed for all of our stuff to go into that was left to store from our house in Oregon.
BUT . . .
We did some things incorrectly when we put the shed up so it was NOT a dry place to store our stuff.
So after about a week and a half of rain we get to work on fixing our mistakes on the shed so we can finally clean up our land!
Follow along as we clean up some of the chaos on our land.
*******************************************************************
And now a little back story on us, in case you just found us on KZbin. We’re Sara and Ryan. We are your average suburban family, but 10 years ago, we purchased a raw piece of land in the Hood Canal in Washington. We’ve been developing this piece of property slowly, and this year we knew it was time to go all in. So we purchased a log cabin kit home and decided that 2020 would be the year we built a house on our property. We plan to build this cabin (as much as we can) on our own.
Unfortunately, some unforeseen events in 2020 that were completely out of our hands put a delay on our cabin kit being produced and delivered in the time frame we had originally planned. While we could have just waited it out and pushed back starting on the build of our home, we decided to shift gears and change our course for the time being. We purchased a 30 foot yurt, and will be setting it up as additional living space when we begin to build our cabin.
In the summer of 2021, we FINALLY moved to the Hood Canal so we could start the build of our future home. While we are building our home, we are living in a camper trailer and the yurt that we built in the summer of 2020. We hope to have our cabin kit home built by the end of 2023. Just my husband and I are building the house. We get help here and there from friends along the way and we do plan to get help on the roof but other than that we are doing it all on our own.
Follow along with us as we build our dream in the Hood Canal.

It's always nice when things aren't just laying around. Glad you were abel to get some organisation to your chaos. It was so sweet to see a tender moment between you two at the end 😊

You don't realize what a mental toll a mess takes on you until you do a cleanup. When we are feeling overwhelmed on the build we always cleanup the workspace and it helps, but sometimes the outside gets neglected. Glad you enjoyed the episode. =)

You might want to add some bracing on those shelves. They don't look very strong without them. The proper screws for your shed roof should be self-tapping metal screws with a rubber washer already on them, they will seal when they are installed and will last a lot longer than the silicone.

The shelves are actually plenty strong once they have their shelves in for support. We did use the correct self tapping screws and the washers the kit comes with are more of a plastic than a rubber. So a little extra sealant was necessary. Hopefully the seal last for at least a couple years.

Our goal will be to move everything out of the cardboard boxes and get them into rubbermaid totes within the next month or so.

I have the same problem! Lol. Building a cabin on my Chanel as well. So much stuff around outside since we’ve been focusing on the inside. Winter was nice since the snow covered most of the debris! Haha.

After three attempts I found that Flex seal does not work fully on concrete. I had to take it all up and try another route.

I recommend a beer from the Veltin brewery at the end of the day. In my opinion, it's the best beer in Germany.

U need a drip edge on the bottom so rain sheds away from the building

That is a decent idea. Maybe just extend the length of the overhang could do the trick.

Hello. Once you have your certificate of occupancy , you can move in. I suppose you want it badly. But if you move in right now, you will have to remove everything to do the floors. And if you do the floors right now, it means more wood work. Can you survive it ? What did you decide ?
@OneFootOfftheGrid
@OneFootOfftheGrid 4 ай бұрын
We've stated in another video that we plan to move our kids in minimally before we finish flooring. We still have things that we need to use the scaffolding for in the main room that can be done after we have temporary certificate of occupancy and we don't want our scaffolding rolling around on our finish flooring. We don't plan to move everything in, though, before the flooring is complete.

Is there any way you could install some guttering system that would eliminate some of the runoff ?

I was looking at options, but couldn't figure out a good way to attach a gutter to the metal roofing. I may need to just fabricate something, but it is definitely something I'm considering.

I dont understand why the kitchen is not set up like it was for Thanksgiving? You had set all the appliances up didnt you?
@OneFootOfftheGrid
@OneFootOfftheGrid 4 ай бұрын
Well, the house is now a build site. It gets VERY saw dusty in there and we have the appliances all covered so they're protected from the possibility of dropping tools. We just put it in a little too early so we could finally have a kitchen for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
