Oh, yeah, love that bass voice! My dad could sing bass & he was my musical influence. Dad enjoyed the Do Wop sound of the 50s. For my 6th birthday in 1970, he gifted me a portable phonograph & carry case for 45 r.p.m. records full of records he had collected since his youth.

That was the bass voice of Richard Sterban. He used to be a back-up singer for Elvis. He backed up the legendary J.D. Sumner --head of the Stamps Quartet at that time. So Elvis had two bass singers backing him up.

In high-school choir at Patterson Sr. High, there was a girl named 'Elvira' in my class. While the sheet music was being passed around, our teacher would begin playing this song on the piano. We would sing the chorus: *"Elvira, Elvira, my heart's on fire, for Elvira."* The look on her face was priceless...

the first and only time i attended an oakridge boys concert was in 1982 i think? it was whilst i was attending a boy scout jamboree in virginia. this song, elvira, was new but i had heard it on the radio. man was it fun to "giddy up a oom bop a mamma..... high yo silver... get awaaay" that day. but what really made the day was Burl Ives opened the show. yes the man who had narrated and sang everything on "rudolph the red nosed reindeer", that i had been watching every year since i was 3 months old. i will never forget that day. he even did "there was an old lady who swallowed a fly". life was simpler back then. just sayin'.

When I first heard this song I thought it was the bearded guy to. Country music was good in 60s & 70s. But I was into rock n roll cause of my big sister, I'm loving it.I also enjoy some songs before my time to. I was born 1960. Love 50s. I totally enjoy y'all's reaction to history's find good music. Not into country music, but this is my favorite on country music side. Like Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.

There is country in this city girl’s soul! Love the Oak Ridge Boys and “Elvira” Giddy up..omm papa omm mow mow..(that pays homage to a song called “Papa-omm-mow-mow” by The Rivingtons from 1963. A black and white “video” shows 5 apes dancing as if that is supposed to be more palatable than the guys singing it. So disrespectful and f-d up. Did you know the original album covers for black artists did not show the artists, even Motown? A little music history for you! (Edited to correct typos)
