I love this song! As a wannabe bass singer, It's a great vocal exercise. However, I'm under no illusions that I'm within a million miles of Richard Sterban's masterful performance. He's in a class all by himself. You're either born with that kind of voice or you're not. It's great that he's used his talent in a positive way, singing gospel and values-affirming country music. The Oak Ridge Boys have enjoyed a long career entertaining millions of people worldwide. I'll always be a fan!

We still have Adam's 45 record of this. Our son, Adam, was 2 years of age when it was released. My brother, Eddie, recorded it on a cassette, over & over & over again, front & back! Adam would play the tape & sing along with it every single time, front & back. I would love to hear that little boy sing Elvira one more time. Just saw the boys live tonight Sun November 24, 2013 @ the Star Plaza Theater in Merrillville Indiana, their 40th anniversary tour and the boys had the whole place on their feet!! They did two Hours straight!! We have seen them there every year since 1991 when I was a teenager. Let me tell you they still got it!! Plus as usual, Richard had all the women excited with that Bass which sounded better than ever. God Bless them and to many more years of performing!!

Couldn't agree with you more! I went through "all of them" on here now, looking for a good version to have in my playlist. And this is by far the best one, too bad the sound quality is only so so. You can hear that his mic has been turned way up and you hear him much better than in any other version!

I was going to say the same thing! It's good they've turned his mic up a bit more than the other backing vocals, sounds brilliant
@joe6096
@joe6096 Жыл бұрын
Part of that is because they actually had his microphone turned up properly in the mix. Due to the low frequencies of bass, you need to turn the volume up to actually hear it - that's part of the reason bass takes so much power in an amplifier as opposed to the mid-range and high-frequencies. Good engineers understand this and will make that adjustment. Most audio engineers for TV shows try to keep the mix neutral or "in the middle". When you do that, nuances like Richard's great voice just get lost in the mix. This time the audio mixing engineer got it right turning his mic up in the mix a little louder than the others. Thus it's not overpowering the others, but you can hear it better.

Okay, the bass singer is fantastic and I remember listening to this in the 80's and I thought that was amazing. But as far as deep bass voices, go look up J.D Sumner, his group was the back up singers for Elvis Presley. At one time, he was in the Guinness book of records for deepest bass voice and this man from the Oak Ridge Boys studied up under him.

richard sterban sang backup for Elvis presley before joining the ORB's. i also didn't know they were mostly a gospel group until this song which as a kid i always thought was about Elvira--the horror film person, or a horse 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
