true, my mom was a metalhead, and her genes came to me. When I was 7, I listen to nothing but Linkin Park, Disturbed, Drowning Pool, and Three Days Grace. They didn't click at first, then I moved on to more typical, radio friendly, pop, tiktok songs... Then I jumped back into metal... and it finally clicked. I've found my genre. White Pony is a masterpiece but it's extremely important to remember that a huge reason why is because of Terry Date. The production is top tier, the use of space throughout the album makes it sound haunting, ambient, sexy, and menacing. This is an album whose tracks you want to keep off your playlists. Enjoy it as a whole. Pink Maggit closes the album as its thesis conclusion, and helps tie together all the themes throughout the album. Even though I love Alice in Chains, this album is my desert island pick, huge part of that is Date's production it's so easy to get lost in and the drums, my god that muthaf*king snare is insane. So many great albums.. you'll find Terry behind the console. White Pony gets better year over year, been listening it to every year it's been released and hasn't ever come close to sounding old. Sonic opium.

Just once again recommending The Shape Of Punk To Come by Refused. Such a badass album, and super influential and important, even if it's a little overlooked. It was so incredibly ahead its time, for 1998. The sound of it now is just as fresh, exhilarating, and raw as it was then. It's produced/mixed with massive-sounding "wall of distortion" guitars, and absolutely wild, out-of-left-field choices like adding electronic music breaks and full-blown string-instrument solos into what is, at the end of the day, an absolute rager of a punk album... it's a must-listen.

No one expected Deftones (as you said, a band that was lumped into a genre at the time) third studio album to be so good and different than what had come before. Kinda like what happened with Radiohead and OK Computer. Everyone expected them to just cont being BritPop/BritInvasion and then they drop the 90s version of Dark Side of the Moon.

Change (In The House Of Flies) has a very special place in my soul. I remember a few months ago I was going through a tough time mentally and spiritually. I had done about 5 grams of shrooms while intoxicated (like I said, rough time), and I remember watching the music video for Change right as my trip was beginning to start. As the camera zoomed into Chino's face, i felt petrified and unsettled because to me, there was something about the beginning of the music video itself that had me trip out, but as the track kept playing, it was like I felt all the pain, excitement, rage, basically all the emotions you would think anyone listening to this song went through. Even though my trip barely started as the music video did, the song had me in such a grasp that I felt like I had lost myself and i felt as if I was insane nearing the end of the song as my playlist kept playing in the background. The trip was the worst trip of my life, but I felt like I finally found what I was searching within myself while I went through that dark time. Dont underestimate the magic of music and how it influences your soul.

I swear there will be the Diamond Eyes people there and DO check it out because it IS good but trust me when I say that Deftones self titled is the most beautiful, raw, record I have ever listened too. Very emotional due to chino's circumstances. Very different from white pony as well, the difference is evident in the first song, such a unique record, none of their others sound like it. A couple of facts about it: For some songs like minerva they layered like 100+ guitars. Minerva is easily the hugest song I have ever heard, listen to it loud. Chino's lyrics are a lot less erotic and more poetic, since he was going through a divorce with his wife at the time. Most of the album is about love and issues with it, except Hexagram which was made because of 9/11. The album was originally supposed to be called "Lovers" Each song meaning: Hexagram: Basically talking about what terrorist attackers think god is thinking of them as they sacrifice themselves for their cause. Needles and Pins: It's basically just "me and my lover against the world" Minerva: Basically appreciating all of the wise, mature, and old women for a change, not just the young and hot ones. Good Morning Beautiful: It is either about him trying to wake his lover up from a coma or trying to get them out of a drug-induced haze, help them out of their addiction before drugs comes to bite them. Deathblow: The song describes an individual who has someone that they absolutely adore and idolize, but is trying to fight a drug addiction that creeps back to him each time she leaves him alone. It waits to hit him with the deathblow when she can no longer hold them back from him. When girls telephone boys: Toxic relationships, specifically about telephone calls. Basically like "You want to be a dick. I'll outdo you. F uck you, kill y ourself." Battle-Axe: Another love hate relationship song. Kinda coming to the realization that your lover is batshit insane but you still love them Lucky you: I'm not sure. This song's lyrical content is vague. I assume it's about something toxic involving sex. Bloody cape: Really not sure with this one either to be honest, probably similar to needles and pins. Anniversary of an uninteresting event: Anniversary of an experience with a lover that used to be positive, but now that they aren't together, it just makes him sad. Moana: Idk more love shit it's hard to tell The metaphors on this album are less obvious. Some meanings are incredibly obvious, just known to be fact, some are speculation, some I couldn't even begin to think what they mean. But chino's voice on this record is less drowned in effects on this album than usual. I encourage you to look after tracks Minerva, Deathblow, Battle-Axe, and Hexagram. This album is genuinely phenomenal. If you do want to react to deftones again, I strongly urge you to choose this album, it is an underrated masterpiece. (Full disclaimer it took me a while to warm up too)

I kind of ignored them for most of my life (apart from the singles) and then listened to their entire discography in a weird order all over a few months. I get why White Pony is considered their masterpiece, as it was such a step forward from their earlier work, but the majority of Deftones later albums are on par, even the ones their fanbase pan (like Gore, which is great). Koi No Yokan, Gore, Diamond Eyes, Saturday Night Wrist, (the Self Titled)...they're all pretty fucking amazing. Deftones forever.

I'm Brazilian. "Feiticeira" was a famous dancer (real name Joana Prado) who was and arguably still is hot af. She would dance on these game shows and stuff like that. Also, Feiticeira means "sorceress" (not witch, that would be "bruxa") and it's pronounced "Fay - tchee - say - ra"

If you haven’t already, check out “Deloused in the Comatorium” by The Mars Volta. The recording of it had guests Flea and John Frusciante (of Red Hot Chili Peppers) on it, but it’s super trippy, kinetic and heavy (in very unique ways). I’m 42 years old, grew up on Pink Floyd, Tool, Deftones and Radiohead, and “Deloused in the Comatorium” will always be on my Top 10 albums of all time. Tracks 1 & 2 , as well as 4 & 5, should be listened as one. The album art was created by the same artist who did the album art for Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here”

Deftones and Mars Volta touring together this winter/spring! Really exciting. Deloused is my favorite TMV album and one of the greatest of all time. Rick Rubin also killed it on the production of that record.

Please listen to Meshuggah. I'd suggest obZen (2008) or Chaosphere (1998) they have a pretty large discography and a lot of the albums are very cohesive in terms of ideas so it's hard to say what the perfect first Meshuggah album is

Recent masterpieces I’ve heard is “I let it in and it took everything” by Loathe and “The dark pool” by Thornhill. They’re fairly newer bands and have a little bit of Deftones influences but definitely still have their own unique sound!!! Yall NEEDDDDDD to check out these albums I swear to god

Feiticeira was a nickname for a character from a Brazilian tv show. Was a girl (Joana Prado, actually she is married with Victor Belfort, the former ufc fighter). And at the time this character was a beautiful and sexy girl that choose some guy and tease him (doing massage, giving grapes in his mouth, dancing around him, thinga like that during the whole show), but the guy wasn't allowed to touch her.

Deftones have better albums than White Pony, that said this was the one that finally got me invested. I had a buddy in middle school who was always trying to get me into Korn and Limp Bizkit and Deftones and Soul Fly and a lot of it never quite stuck for me. I enjoyed some of it, but I was coming from a different place in regards to heavy music (when he played me Soul Fly, I played him Sepultura and changed his life, iykyk). Deftones had two albums out and I liked moments of their music but they always came up short for me in some way. It was cool skateboard music, but it didn’t have anything else for me to appreciate. Fast forward a few years later and we’re in high school and White Pony comes out and my boy is excited, by that time “Change” was the lead single and it was everywhere and I thought it was quite good but had tempered expectations for the album. We put it on and three songs in I give my buddy a lot that said “I get it now, I’m in. I’m all in”. This record documents the band growing into the form they’d always meant to be, their first two are them in their larva and pupa stage, this record is the fully grown beast taking flight. Been a fan ever since. This album will always bring that memory back for me. Excellent video guys, this album has always been the perfect starting point for this band.
