We make it a point to travel within our state and around our diverse country, the USA, to immerse our kids in the beauty of nature and to introduce them to other cultures and occupations. We also encourage our kids to consider the skills and traits that a future mate and boss would find they find desirable so they can begin to cultivate those things in their youth. This motivates them to do more than just watch KZbin, although they do still do a bit of that, mostly constructive stuff.

I taught my son to budget and set goals from the moment he learned what money was. If he wanted an XBox, he knew that he'd have to earn the money - or save his birthday money. He earned the money for virtually every major purchase. He's 19 now. He has saved a substantial amount for a down payment on a house. While his friends live paycheck to paycheck, he has the confidence and peace of mind from having his bills paid and savings in the bank. Goal-setting is one of the single most important things that we can teach our kids.

After all, we think scientifically - so we believe - and we think we know what that means (since scientific thinking can in principle be defined). We are familiar with scientific thinking, and value it highly - so we tend to presume that that is all there is to thinking (that all other “forms of thought” are approximations, at best, to the ideal of scientific thought). But this is not accurate. Thinking also and more fundamentally is specification of value - is specification of implication for behavior. This means that categorization, with regards to value -determination (or even perception) of what constitutes a single thing, or class of things - is the act of grouping together according to implication for behavior. I am 68 and have a lot of time to think and I realize how many opportunities I let pass or fell into situations that didn't help me get to the place that I might have wanted to be. I grew up poor but with many mixed signals on what to do with my life such as I could do much better than working at McDonalds while president/CEO of IBM was too much. Now I didn't want to be in charge of IBM and I was never told this specifically, but the amalgamation of many talks with my mom over the years convinced me of this fact. I felt like in many ways, I held myself back from doing and being the best I could be. Now at my age and disabled I still have problems figuring out what I want to focus on in my life.

WOW! Finally this topic is discussed more about how our economic education is nonexistent in our society, and where it starts is in the school system and how that had failed children. I am SO GREATFUL that my dad saw how school was just teaching me to be a good test taker and he taught me applied knowledge and how to question things. Schools need a course on finance and budgeting as well as career guidance.

I’ve always struggled with defining what I want my life to be in the future. So far I’ve figured out a small list, although not very specific on career or location goals. 1. I want a small house(650-1000sqft) 2. Financial safety net(building up a $20,000 emergency as of now) 3. I want to find a women to love and marry, hopefully have at least one child. 4. take care of my parents when they retire. 5. Build a career(maybe culinary? Unsure of specific direction) This is all I could come up with for now, and I’m sure it will change in the future as I’ve only just turned 18.
