Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday slammed the BJP govt in Lok Sabha for creating 'inequality worse than British Raj' in India. He said that the govt does not keep the lower strata of people in mind while framing policies. On packages given to different states in Union Budget 2024 he said, 'for govt of India, some states are more equal than others'

Shashi Tharoor is one of those comical politicians only Keralites elect to amuse themselves. After more than 75 years as an independent country, he wants to compare Indian economy with British Raj. Can Kerala's economy run without piling on debt? Probably that is also a sin of the British Raj! The so-called lower strata of the society will happily eat out of the earnings of the other hard working people and demand a rich lifestyle. That hard working person may not be anyone outside their own home. It may be a hard working husband or wife or son or daughter inside the home itself. And it is an obvious overgeneralization to compare the west to India. In the US for example 14,500$ per annum is considered the poverty limit. According to NITI Ayog, In India its 450$ per annum. Even then, by any standard, absolute or percentage, India is still objectively poorer. Make that make sense. What the Americans are complaining are mainly about gov spending on war and housing crisis in major Towns and cities. This is due to over investment, infra development and asset trading causing houses to be over valued. Indian economy is not that developed for this to happen. For that high gov spending or cash flow.

Again this inequality deception. Poverty was far more during British Raj. Just because Ambanis net worth increased, doesn't mean he is cause of anyone who is poor. To his credit, he created jobs. Congress should ask, why they neglected manufacturing sector when they were in power? Why they allowed cheap Chinese imports to flood the market and kill domestic industries? Talk about development being stopped in Karnataka, due to freebies. Talk about nokku kooli culture in Kerala, that hurts businesses, which has caused high unemployment there. Talk about Kerala govt splurging money on pay hikes for govt employees, at the cost of everyone else's taxes.

Regarding the kerala situation, for the past 10 years kerala is governed by CPI(M) to which Mr. Tharoor's party is an opposition. The stifling of buisness comes from the very strong association of labours and empowerment, this can be a double edged sword unfortunately it cut us in the wrong way. Then the spending by all these employees of Relaince and its contractors, creates more spillover jobs. So, if you see the good paying jobs created for the capital employed, it is higher than MSMEs and farmers. And that Ambani wedding also created jobs for event managers, hospitality sector, the factories from whom they bought stuff. It was a mini stimulus.

The money spent on excess procurement of rice and wheat, and electricity subsidies. That could be avoided if crop diversification was done to get good pricea by growing crops that India has to import. They would earn from the market instead of tax money. That saved money could be spent on education and healthcare.
