Br Phap Dung talks about how, even in our current world environment, the present moment can be a noble moment, a moment for us to reflect. Suffering is a Noble Truth, if we learn to listen to what is happening to us, to really touch our our suffering, we can touch something very deep. This is why this moment can be considered noble.
With people's movement restricted in many parts of the world, we have to find our inner island and build our stability through breathing and stopping. In the face of great uncertainty, we do not know what may happen next, but we do know that being stable will help.
Dwelling in the present moment, with a clear mind we can ask "What is happening?" and "Why is this happening?" in our search for the causes and conditions of our current circumstance.
Br Phap Dung recommends meditating on impermanence as a training to see our own fragility and the vulnerability of the earth.
Impermanence also allows change to be possible, and makes life possible. The present moment contains both suffering and nobleness. Br Phap Dung reads a text from our teacher's book "Love Letters to the Earth" and talks about cultivating trust in ourselves.
Br Phap Dung also talks about viewing the world through the framework of interbeing and to see that we are connected on a planetary scale, what we do to the planet, we do to ourselves. Concretely, we can use the present moment to be aware of how we are dependent on others for our vegetables, toilet paper and masks etc.
Finally Br Phap Dung sends a message to all those currently in confinement and asks that you find a rhythm or schedule for each day, to take care of yourselves, nourish yourselves daily with play, and guard your senses particularly with respect to the news and media.
Ask yourselves, what am I nourishing in myself each day? He asks us to keep our minds focused on love, kindness and compassion as a kind of prayer for the world.
*correction: Br. Phap Dung mentions noble as 'Brahman' in sanskrit which is incorrect. It should be 'Aryan', which the Buddha also used to refer to the Noble Truths.

In Australia, in particular Victoria, we are just coming out of lock down & getting about more, what i noticed about Lock Downs "for The Planet" was that starving Orca's that only eat Salmon & particular fish, are plump & eating well & having Young, i saw Kangaroos coming in to built up areas & they were coming to see if the humans were really gone. Fish stocks in the ocean had improved, pollution had got no worse, Eagles were bringing forth more young & Koalas were able to cross highways without being struck. The Creature Teachers of Land above & below, Sky fliers & Ocean dwellers, were breathing a sigh of relief. Even Trees were unfelled & rivers clearer, the All that is was recovering! Like yourself i shed tears too & i pray that Human Souls will listen with all their senses, be mindful that we share this Earth. Nurses & Doctors "Salt Of The Earth" ..Thank You for You Br Phap Dung 🌏🙏🏻

Thank you dear Brother. I have already felt that the Universe is crying for our attention. That we must become less greedy, less consuming, more caring of Mother Earth. I often read The Way of The Bodhisattva by Shantideva. It has been my personal bible for 17 years now. We must learn from our suffering to simplify life. I am recently widowed, so I am learning to be alone. But I reach out to my friends. We give each other courage. With Love. Merry💕

As always I’ve enjoyed this talk as well as all of Br PD’s talks, so calm so inspiring and so true! One thing stays in my mind about this talk is that “we are the cancer of the planet”, so I guess to heal Mother Earth we need to be very conscious of how to live a simple life, if possible like a monastic, if we all look at how the brothers and sisters at the Plum Village live their lives of happiness and peace, I guess we can too, everyone needs to be mindful and live for now and enjoy the presence of loved ones! I’m very grateful for their teachings and I vow to practice as much as I can! Namaste!

I have watched this over and over again, and I feel so much calmer and connected to the earth and the universe. I could go on and on, but Br Phap Dung, I must say this is probably among the deepest and most profound dharma talks I have heard. I enjoy your gentleness, clarity, and your depth of insight, and sense of humor. While this pandemic is a very serious situation, and you must address that, within you is also the lightheartedness and sense of humor that I have seen in other dharma talks (like the One-Eyed Fish story you told to the children in another video). Thank you for providing these videos from Plum Village.

Do I/we/ them really need suffering and pain and trauma to learn?...or... would I/we/them rather prefer to learn through awareness, mindfulness and love?. But I am excited to meditate in the morning in a calm, safe, sanitary place of refuge-perhaps under a tree. It would be nice to have a tree inside my house, perhaps I will do so next to my father’s bonsai trees he takes care of.
