They have become in my top three all time favorite metalcore style bands of all, and performances like this are the reason why. Eddies vocal talent is absolutely insane and i love that you decided to choose imminence as the band to break down and admire for this.

I still don't have a favourite band but I've grown to have favourite musicians for each instrument/style. My favourite all round vocalist is Chester Bennington. My favourite screamer is Kyle Anderson. My favourite Rhythm Guitarist is Mick Thomson. My favourite lead guitarist is Adam DeMicco. My favourite drummer is still a list though which is mainly made up of all my influences.

When you brought up one take performances I thought the same thing I hope that going forward we reach a point in the industry where you can appreciate the skills and expression of vocalists without us feeling like we need auto-tune and and splicing just to keep up the facade of perfection. It sometimes feels like the professional bodybuilding industry in that if you don't use steroids you won't be able to keep up. I don't hate auto-tune or punching in I just think they should be optional rather than standard. And I want there to be room and opportunity for us to see more of artists in their natural raw selves I love watching lives even if they aren't perfect because I can see more of the artist themselves without the editing and adjusting P.S. Your screams have really improved a lot since the earlier days Chris!!!

Amazing video Chris, they are really helpful. Even my clean vocal coach likes them, and he isn't even interested in metal or hash vocals like this. One question: is there a difference how to approach fry scream and mixed scream? In my case, I learned to control false chord highs and lows, but have struggled a lot to get a propper fry scream, I feel it lacks body and/or voice. Any tips? Much love!!
@chrisliepe Жыл бұрын
I've got lots to say on "fry screams". I think most people are confused about how to go about these because they think fry is actually involved in the creation of the sound. It's not at all. That's why I like to think of them as "upper constricted screams". The mixed or pitch scream is a completely different approach than either the upper or lower constricted sensation. If you can, check out the link in the description for Will's new course as we unpack how to develop all of these coordinations!

With all due respect for your work, and this is coming from someone who does not sing or scream, and please correct me if i am wrong (i probably am). I feel like you over complicate and over analyse everything, i find it hard to believe that the singer, in this case Eddie, is thinking of what you explain when he is recording vocals. Again, I do not sing or scream. My question is, to the vocalists here, do you actively think of all this nuances when you are singing? Do you have practice runs where you do think of it? Or does it come naturally? I do enjoy this videos tho and I have seen the ones with Will Ramos too, amazing what people can do with their voices and your explanations do make sense, I just find it a bit over analysed.
@chrisliepe Жыл бұрын
For awhile, you need to go deep into the analysis phase and feel out what your voice is dining and ask all sorts of questions. Then once muscle memory kicks in and these sensations become programmed, you don’t have to think about it. You just experience your voice. Much like a basketball player dormant need to think about all the mechanics when they shoot a free throw in a game. But they definitely did for years and years when they practiced to get good. And they temporarily return to that phase every so often. Will Ramos, Spencer Sotelo and others I’ve worked with say this same thing. Eddie actually reached out to me about this video and thanked me for the analysis. Same with Dan Tompkins about the TesseracT video I recently did. My approach and analysis is resonating with the actual singers!!

But what the hell is the point of this song?does he believe in a literal heaven? Because if you believe in a literal heaven, a literal God, and a literal Jesus. Then you would also know that you’re on the losing side if you oppose him. Because you have to derive this belief from the Bible. I’m not speaking up for Christianity. I’m simply trying to make sense of this song.

not a fan of metalcore vocals or music, I mean he has a good range, the screams must be hard, but I'd take death or black metal type of vocals over this any day. There's something that I will never get into with the metalcore / deathcore music, and the main part is the vocals, it's like trying to sound tough, but doesn't really sound tough kinda thing.
