Goodwill is doing this at the local little stores. My son worked as one as a manager. They look everything up in the back with Google and eBay and if it is a high value piece they send it to the outlet stores in the bigger cities or sell it online. Doesn't even give us little resalers a chance. They fired my son because he bought a pair of shoes when he was off and he resold them online and they found out. "against company policy". Thats crap! I dont go there and never will again!

That was a Buies Creek Astros (not Blues). All of their merchandise is limited edition because they were only a team for two seasons. The Houston Astros made a temporary home in Buies Creek, NC for their A ball team at Campbell University (in exchange for the Astros installing field turf that cost $1M on Campbell's baseball field) while a new stadium was being built in downtown Fayetteville, NC, which became the permanent home of the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. Anytime you find BC Astros merch, pick it up. It'll only get harder to find over time. I just sold a BC hat and tee combo for $40...

Honestly we only have a couple small thrift stores we go to and we buy very little because they have big boutique areas in them where they sell all the “good” stuff . We mainly source from yard sales and estate sales. Sometimes even antique stores when we can find good deals. We never go to a Goodwill or Salvation Army ,for one they’re too far away ,we have none near us and ours are tiny not like the big ones I see on TV they’re like little tiny store fronts with very little merchandise and I find nothing to sell and occasionally some thing for myself. One time I was able to get some jewelry jars and that was fun because that’s my main niche, reselling jewelry and watches. But they’re a waste of our time. no real good inventory I’m way too expensive. So I haven’t been there enough to see any shady stuff going on. Never been to the bins ,don’t even know if there’s one anywhere near us. Probably over an hour because all the Goodwill‘s are a good 45 minutes from us. I have bought Jewelry from Goodwill online but that’s hit or miss. Sometimes you get a good box sometimes you do not. Thanks for another good video I never miss any of your videos!

First, can’t believe people actually use UPS to ship. Every time I have used them they over charge me. I always enter the correct dimensions and weight and they always “adjust” it upwards, upwards by a lot as well. Will never use the service again. The biggest threat to resellers is everybody and his brother getting into the business. While competition can be good, it’s a balancing act that can easily tip into the saturated market territory. Which is happening in many categories.

The biggest threat to resellers is that fees on top of fees on top of shipping and on top of sales tax plus you pretty much need to promote as well to sell. In general people not selling think resellers are making a fortune without considering the high fees on shipping and selling. There goes your margin of profit 😮

I agree sometimes when I sell an item and crunching the numbers I feel like ebay and ups/usps is the only one making a real profit. Clearly, that is not the case but sometimes I sell an item free shipping and after fee shipping and what I paid I make like 3 dollars plus my money back.

I primarily source at garage and estate sales, but during the winter I do go to a local non profit store here in my small town. Goodwill is about a 2 hour drive from me and the Goodwill bin store is even further. So I can't comment on them, but my local store has started looking up prices on ebay when they get something really good. Like video games and consoles. But I can understand why they are starting to do this. For years they were not getting a fair price for these types of items and losing good money that helps my small community. They don't do this on everything, so I can still find some great gems there. But I can see this being a problem for the resellers that primarily go to the bins for their inventory.

It's getting more and more difficult to source. For example, I had a small "honey hole" that, for years, I found great items at a reasonable price where both sides were making some profit. I think it's happening all over the country this is why when I first started selling full time 25 years ago I was taught by a very smart shrewd reseller to diversify where you sell and what you sell and also diversify were you source use every avenue you can to source so for 25 years I have not limited where I source from you need to source everywhere so when something like what happen at your local honey hole upped there prices your not stock you have other avenues byw when this happens I give these stores my card and say if you can't move these items I'm willing to take them off your hands in bulk you wouid be surprised at how many call me back this stuff is donated and donation are always coming in so they up the price but then can't sell it there going to learn fast they can't ask for online prices no matter if it's slightly less then ebay I look at like this if your a thrift shop with itens donated for free if you can offer your used stuff lower then the dollar tree your going to be out of business quick

Hi, Goodwill having someone pre-pick items would definitely hurt those that primarily source there. I am fortunate to have a large flea market not too far from me. I don't do much garage sales but that is another lucrative avenue. Another thing is to do storage units or get to know people that do buy storage units. I don't have the capacity to do storage units but I know many people, because of the flea market, that buy storage units then they will contact me to buy items before they bring them to the flea market. Last thing to help people find profitable items is to learn about other categories that you're not selling in. I like to go to the Goodwill in the evening sometimes because it's quiet and even though everything's been picked over with my extensive experience I still pull profitable items and fill my cart. I can go from glass to pottery clothes shoes toys computer parts.

We see workers, managers that do side deals with resellers and employees. In our area they send jewelry and plush to main goodwill hub they sort through there and take out the higher value items for online sales. The remaining goes back into the goodwill stores. I was offered $25.00 hr. to tell them what is of value. Couldn't do it. I have to admit they lower and negotiate prices with me and select few other resellers, not just in goodwill, all thrifts. Resellers that are regulars and spend so much per month at their location is what we are seeing. Always been that way, There is a reason others say get to know the workers.

That Goodwill model will not take off. Why would anybody with reseller knowledge of valuable items take a job making 15 an hour? And even if some people do take it you're not going to be true resellers with the wide variety of knowledge we have. And as those employees would learn wouldn't make us eventually start reselling themselves and make a lot more money. I was making more than 15 an hour and I still left my job from reselling because its overall more profitable.

Goodwills are glorified, overpriced McThrift shops. Every one I go to usually has the same junk that nobody wants, so it's obvious the good stuff is picked at beforehand, or there are a lot more active resellers grabbing stuff as soon as they're put on the shelf. Why would people donate their stuff to Goodwill? If it wasn’t going to Goodwill? Goodwill is digging a hole for themselves if they do some back door sales job to another company coming in and cherry picking stuff to make pure profit because the people aren’t going to donate it somewhere else. The people are donating their stuff there, because Goodwill employees people that get out of jail is my understanding and it gives him a fresh start so if it’s not benefiting them, there’s no reason to donate your stuff to Goodwill. The “good will” in it is gone at that point. They’ll donate their stuff to churches, SOS and thrift shops that benefit charitable organizations. The Palm Beach County/Gulfstream Goodwills do pull items for their online auctions. I do purchase from them because i've been able to get decent prices on great items and then I can pick them up to avoid the shipping costs. Also, they've made all of the clothes/linens $5.99 in stores. If you become a member, it's 25% off everyday and 50% off all items once or twice a month. Not the best, but I am still able to get some decent sourcing there. I love the association idea!

I'm echoing what some other people have said here - shipping, along with fees are killing me. I'm trying to get started and have had some sales so far (not a lot) but, end up making very little profit. One item I got for $4, sold for $30 and when everything came out that was "supposed" to come out, I made a whopping $8 which was a $4 profit. Right now, it's almost costing me more to sell things than I am actually getting back 😕 As far as Goodwill is concerned,- and take this with a grain of salt because I'm not a "true" reseller, I resell stuff if I stumble across it - I have stumbled across some good stuff. I haven't seen evidence (yet) that they are allowing someone to pick through it (I'm in SE NC). Part of me thinks, though, that they should have been doing that all along so they can benefit the people they are supporting (and by that I mean, finding the "good stuff" and getting better prices for it). Taking it for employees or favored customers seems wrong somehow though. My biggest profits have come from things I have bought in online auctions that are local pick up.

Purchasing labels via eBay and using the QR code screenshot them save time & money and be sure when you do this to measure and weigh your item after has been packed and put the information in and Save before purchasing the label, promoted listings are an option, be sure to get a good estimate of the size and weight of your item when packed, don't screw yourself over and waste your own time,cha-ching king channel has some of the best advice videos for new eBay sellers, and yeah my first eBay sell got me discouraged because of my ignorance I sold an item cheap with free shipping and it cost me like $50 to ship when it should have been like 25-30 and I should have charged 30 for shipping time packing materials and box, I just started a few months ago so passing on the couple things I have learned

I do not believe that backroom auctions will be a threat to resellers. Most buyers prefer fixed price purchasing. Unfortunately everyday shoppers have bad experiences with auctions, they end up with regrets over impulse buys and poor condition purchases. This is why those succeeding so far on whatnot are influencers or niche players. The buyers have much more confidence when they know the product or the salesman.

The point is that the good stuff will never be available to resellers in thrift stores if this is widely adopted. I’m not referring to sourcing on whatnot

@@commonwealthflippergotcha, I more meant to say backroom auctions won't succeed without influencers or knowledge experts doing the auctioning. So, perhaps resellers should 'unionize' and demand 'no scabs' 🙂

I try to avoid Goodwill in my area (metro Detroit) they are corporate and into making profits. I support the other thrift shops like DAV's (disabled American veterans) and other places like that.

Thank you for this video. I'm brand new to the market. I read about the partnership but thought it was related to job training.

I gave up on Goodwill long ago. They have become competition, not supplier.

Goodwill has been picking out the good items for years now and have their own ebay store and more recently created their own selling platform. I stopped going to goodwill, esp during yard sale season.

that goodwill news is aggravating. if i were a donater to goodwill, that news would get me donating elsewhere! to answer your question, the last week sales have been really good... which hopefully will help make up for the couple months where it seemed to slow down to a screeching halt. i'm praying the positive trend continues for all of us!
