Singapore is waging a war against drugs, and thousands will suffer if the country does not put up a fight or loses the war, said Minister for Home Affairs K. Shanmugam in Parliament on May 8. He said that Singapore will not remove the death penalty as it is an important weapon in the war against drugs, and is an effective deterrent for drug trafficking. Read more here: str.sg/5gGq

Another issue for policy and lawmakers to look into are scammers / money launderers. Take consideration into making the punishment for these criminals even harsher.

Hope the scourge of drugs will never touch the lives of our young people. Our young people need to be instilled with a purpose for their lives and self-belief and self-acceptance so that they never turn to drugs to get relief. Addictions are more of a psychological dependence and escapism from the unhappiness and frustration of their own lives.

I also agree with the death penalty for murder and drug trafficking. I remember this drug trafficker Roshdi Abdullah Altway who murdered a CNB officer (reportedly named Inspector Rajab Mohamed) in 1994 but because of his claims of self defence, his original death sentence was reduced to ten years in jail after his appeal. And now he is again sentenced to death in 2020, it goes to show some offenders truly cannot be rehabilitated unlike those willing to make good use of their second or last chances. Imagine if anyone out there gonna ask to let him live Ps: as of the time of writing on 9 May 2024, Roshdi is still on death row at Changi Prison. He already lost his appeal in 2021 and is probably waiting to be hanged on a date which God knows when

According to Amnesty International, the use of the death penalty for drug-related offences is unlawful under international human rights law and standards. It frequently violates international safeguards and restrictions established to prevent the arbitrary deprivation of life. It disproportionately affects groups that are already marginalized, deepening existing structural socio-economic inequalities, stigmatization and discrimination. Yet more than 30 countries still retain it in their laws and hundreds of drug related executions are carried out every year in the name of the so-called “war on drugs”.

Amnesty is a NGO lol and there is no international law that exists that says that. International Law is defined as a set of rules countries are legally bonded to follow…but all human rights laws are not legally binding and in fact the only agency in this world that has legal enforcement power is the security council.

Something is wrong with the world especially the leaders. We know wars kill life. It's wrong. And yet they happen. We know drugs kill life. It's wrong. And get the rules are lax in countries. Where's the moral courage to stand up against them? So when other countries are pretty useless, we Singapore should stand firm. And who says there's decrease in support for death penalty against drug trafficking.

Countries who execute commonly cite the death penalty as a way to deter people from committing crime. This claim has been repeatedly discredited, and there is no evidence that the death penalty is any more effective in reducing crime than life imprisonment.
