Carrier was playing big minutes against top lines on the right side in Nashville, he’s more solid defensively and will bring stability, compared to Barron who has a higher ceiling but lower floor , good trade maybe a Pairing guy with Hutson
@FrancoisBert2 күн бұрын
Great move … Carrier is a solid right-ha de d D. His plus/minus is terrible this year but when you consider that Josi’s is even worse, you can fairly assume that they’re victims of the Preds’ ineptitude. Also we learned in La Presse this morning that Alexandre has wanted to come and play in Montreal for some time … what a great thing to hear. On a different note, the most awesome thing I learned from this podcast is that you live in Quebec City … wow! Are you from Quebec originally? Just curious.

I’m a preds fan, I really like this trade I feel like Barron will get more opportunities in Nashville. If Barron can hold his own in his own zone and play with pace and generate offense he could be a really good fit for the team. Seems like a win win if hab fans are happy with it

I don't understand why this means we HAVE to get rid of Savard. Are we not allowed multiple good defensive defensemen? I mean, in-zone defense has been one of our biggest struggles as of late. I'd say move Matheson and fill his spot with Carrier, giving us Carrier on 1st pairing, Guhle on 2nd and Savard on 3rd, or maybe even bump Guhle up with Hutson and put Carrier with Struble. What's wrong with good defense across all our DEFENSIVE pairings? Side note - Typing this out made me realize how good Guhle and Hutson paired up sounds

The problem with Lehkonnen was timing (2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons were very tight cap years throughout the entire league) and a previous arbitration which was Bergevin's fault. There was no cap space to even resign Lehkonnen and Bergevin doled out some badly overflated contracts just before getting fired which put the Habs against the cap.

I think Barron is still a good player with some solid offensive upside. I think the fact that Hutson has just slid into the top 4 and immediately became an offensive AND defensive threat made Barron expendable. I think that he will do well with Nashville and they historically have a more defensive oriented system, so that might help round out his game. Wishing him the best and hoping Carrier does well for us for the latter part of this season.

It's not going to happen, no reason to do so. You'd need a team that can't get to the cap floor or want to save money. Maybe in the summer you could get some team interested. You probably would not get anything in exchange really. I am not sure why you would want to get rid of that contract either, there is no need for the cap space until you need to sign Hudson and Demidov long term so whatever you could do with the extra space would only be for one or two years.

I'm not sure I see Mailloux ever becoming a top 4 defenseman and I'm not even sure he'll be a top 6....maybe a seventh playing some games and skipping others....Hopefully history will prove me wrong. I'm not saying he doesn't have upsides, but I just think he has some serious issues he doesn't seem to be addressing (I'm talking about his on ice game, not his off the ice behaviour, I don't really follow those stories.) Savard is probably going to leave before the end of the season or during the summer, unless Hugues feels like signing him to a short contract and let him retire in Montreal, but I think that Savard feels like he has a couple of good years left in the tank...Hopefully Reinbacher will get to play some serious hockey before the end of this season...and hopefully, attending the team meetings and spending time with the trainers even while injured will pay off....and hopefully, again, he will show up next season ready to be the extremely solid defenseman we all hope he can become. I think Carrier may be able to take some pressure off Reinbacher's shoulders allowing him to play at his full potential if we're lucky...I still kinda hope to see the habs fight for a playoff spot until the end of the season even though I think it is an unlikely scenario. I just think that our young players need to learn to play competitive games where the result truly matters...sure another high draft pick is always interesting, but at some point you need your young players to learn to win when it counts and to deal with that pressure......Thankfully Suzuki and Caufield were there when the team got to the Stanley cup final, but we have added many new players since.
