Did you know that it was rumored Mike & Molly was canceled because one of its stars had lost too much weight, and that the show’s final season was only 13 episodes long? From 2010 to 2016, Mike & Molly was one of America’s favorite sitcoms. The show followed the exploits of a married couple that met while attending an Overeaters Anonymous meeting. As compared to previous marriage-based sitcoms, like King of Queens, both of Mike & Molly’s titular characters were equally overweight. The show lasted for six seasons, but it arguably could’ve lasted longer if it weren’t for the popularity of one of its main stars.

When Mike & Molly first came on the air in 2010, star Melissa McCarthy wasn’t nearly as popular as she has since become. At the time, Melissa was best known for her supporting performance on the program Gilmore Girls. Melissa played the supporting character of Sookie St. James on the program for all of its seven seasons. Mike & Molly was able to secure Melissa for a fairly reasonable sum due to the fact that she wasn’t a huge star. She signed a six-year contract, and the show ended up lasting for six seasons.
In 2011, Melissa McCarthy was given her breakout role, which came via the film Bridesmaids. The movie turned her into a star, but the actress was still stuck in her Mike & Molly contract for another handful of years. By the time that the six years of Melissa’s contract were up, the actress was a full-blown movie star. Because of this, renegotiating her contract proved a difficult prospect. I don’t think it was do to weight loss, but, each of the younger actors that were moving on and,this was Melissa McCarthy’s first tv roll and, she wanted to move onto acting on the big scene! Then, the lady who played her sister was getting her own series on NBC. Then, the lady that played her mom and others that came on there for guest roles were well known actors and, actresses and, so, was Billy G. and, he has also now lost a lot of weight and, he has a new series Bob Hearts Abisola!

@@renayfeaster2331 I thought the same thing. I am a long time fan of Billy Gardell and for health reasons, I'm glad he dropped weight but he does appear sickly. Unlike when Melissa dropped weight when she was still on 'Mike & Molly' and looked healthy. Mike & Molly was a great show and I never thought it was cancelled due to Melissa's weight loss. It was never really a ratings smash for CBS (who knows why...great cast!) however, it still held its own in the ratings and is even funnier in reruns.

I LOVED this show and just a few months after my mom died in 2011 is when Melissa won the Emmy (I cried when they announced her name) ... And it gave us the opportunity to release that the beautiful & hilarious Katy Mixon could be a comic lead of her own "American Housewife," gave Billy Gardell a chance to move on to "Young Sheldon" & "Bob Hearts Abishola" plus having his own incredible weight loss journey. And lets not forget outstanding supporting roles played by Reno Wilson (Carl), Swoozie Kurtz (Joyce), Rondi Reed (Peg), Nyambi Nyambi (Samuel), Louis Mustillo (Vince), David Anthony Higgins (Harry) & my personal favorite, Cleo King (Rosetta). Plus, I love the fact that they had to put a grey wig on Rosetta as her real age was close to Reno's.

Love everyone in Mike & Molly. Nana’s (Cleo Kings) zingers towards Carlton (Reno Wilson) were epic. The fact that Cleo had to wear a wig cuz Reno & Cleo were nearly the same age shows what “acting” means. I didn’t hear rumors about why Mike & Molly were cancelled but a M&M reunion is “PAST DUE”! Always enjoyed mikes momma! Hilarious woman. And then Mike and Molly were great, of course. Being set in Chicago was also nice. I’m tired of all the sitcoms being set in NYC or LA. We get a lot of crime, procedural, and drama’s set in Chicago but very few sitcoms. It just worked well here. I definitely miss the show! The thing about that show is they could bring it back at anytime and just pick up where it left off and it would work just fine.

I love The King Of Queens. Doug and Carrie were a fantastic match for this sitcom. They were hilarious. A well written series that also ended with an adopted baby and then finding out Carrie was going to have her own. I like Mike and Molly because they kind of remind me s bit of King of Queens. The shows have similar qualities. Where one had a Father in law living with them (Jerry Stiller) and the other Mike and Molly had a mother that was always a big part of the show.

Because the ratings went down every year and in the final season they were ranked 51st this nonsense about they didn’t renegotiate Melissa McCarthy‘s contract because they said it was going to eat up the majority of the money? That’s total BS because they were going to go to syndication and syndication is where the big money is…. And this was a Chuck Lorre show so how come the cast of the big bang theory another Chuck Lorre show was making like $1 million an episode? And on the big bang theory other than Johnny Galecki there were no real big names there, The difference being they had big ratings and they were climbing and staying high. No the reason why Mike and Molly was canceled was because the shell was dropping…

No I knew it wasn't because of her weight loss I knew it was because of how popularity that she was getting more and more famous and more and more people were reaching out for her to do movies she is a great comedian she's very funny and enjoy all her movies and I do miss Mike and Molly

One of the best shows ever. Just a funny show without all the crap we have to deal with today. Cancel a good show like this & they keep the crap they show today. The cast was stellar.

I am glad to see Billy Gardell and Bob Hart's episode although I would rather have seen Mike and Molly continue that we haven't he does not seem to hurt either one of their careers and they're helping a lot of us by not being quote normal looking people thank you sincerely Joker Joe Cooper
